5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely helpful
I would highly recommend it. This was very useful when I started my websites online. I learned so much that I had no clue I was supposed to know. It helped me step-by-step and was reader friendly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly information on setting up the website

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Web Stores Do-It-Yourself For Dummies (Paperback)
This book doesn't give a lot of information on the actual ins and outs of setting up a company, purchasing inventory, communicating with suppliers, or the actual business aspects of running an online retail store. It is mainly a guideline for how to build your own website to sell products - and it only gives a couple of suggestions for simple e-commerce sites to use. As a matter of fact, it actually kind of seems like a sales pitch for Yahoo! Merchant Solutions. If you want to sell your daughter's friendship bracelets, this is a good purchase. If you are serious about becoming an actual successful web retailer, this is not the book for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately, I bought this book, July 28, 2011

I bought the only website book I could find in town which was Web Sites for Dummies. I agree with one thing, though, you have to be a dummy to buy it.
The book assumes you have Dreamweaver software which it says costs $399. Actually, that is the upgrade price for Dreamweaver. To buy it from scratch from Adobe the cost is $1800. There is no way a beginner is going to buy that software. Maybe the beginner works for a company which already has it, but the price is completely prohibitive for most beginners.
Next, the sample pages at the website given are not free. One must pay some company to see them. I didn't even bother to see how much.
This book is a manual for Dreamweaver which, I understand, comes without a manual.
I will be donating my copy of Websites for Dummies to the local library in hopes that no one else has to spend the $22 it cost me.
I should have known better. The local university uses an O'Reilly book to teach basic web design. It is called Head First HTML, CSS and XTML. I will be ordering it. It's sample pages are free on the internet.
