Book Description

April 2001
Single sourcing is a great concept, but can it really work? Whether you’re evaluating WebWorks Publisher 6.0 or already creating electronic output, The WebWorks Publisher Cookbook is your guide to this powerful and challenging tool. At last, here’s a complete guide to this complex software that creates HTML, XML, JavaHelp, WinHelp, and other online formats from FrameMaker files.

The Cookbook begins with a step-by-step guide to project setup, and then provides details for each of WebWorks Publisher’s templates. In addition to full printed scripts for template customizations, readers get access to cut-and-paste code listings on Scriptorium Publishing’s web site. The latter part of the book is for battle-hardened users only: context-sensitive help, the WebWorks Publisher macro language, and regular expressions.

Single sourcing can save enormous amounts of time and money, but only if the process works smoothly. The Cookbook will help you implement a true single-sourcing environment, where all of your electronic outputs are created from one set of FrameMaker files.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

The good news is that you can customize WebWorks Publisher to produce almost any HTML or help from your FrameMaker files. The bad news is that WebWorks Publisher is quite difficult to use. The WebWorks Publisher Cookbook offers you answers on many topics including:

* Setting up your projects and understanding the interface
* Structuring your FrameMaker files so that they will work well in a single-source environment
* Customizing navigation (several techniques including drop-down lists)
* Tips, tricks, and work-arounds for the output templates
* More than 100 code examples that you can reuse (you can cut and paste code from the companion web site at Scriptorium Publishing)

The Cookbook will help you become a productive WebWorks Publisher user by giving you the scoop on this powerful and challenging application.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly out of date?, December 2, 2001

This review is from: The WebWorks Publisher Cookbook : Transforming Your FrameMaker Files to HTML and Online Help (Paperback)
Unfortunately, When I purchased this book it was a couple of week after Quadralay (the company that produced WebWorks Publisher) released an update version i.e., WWP 7.0 - This book was written for WWP 6.0. There appears to be quite a difference in the two versions. This book was written for 6.0. Although, I did find some parts of it informative.

You need to get Scriptorium to come up with an update.
