it works, but...,

This is more of a lid holder than nifty tool that lets it "slide aside"
The thing is held to the grill by two flat hooks that don't do a good job of holding it flat against the grill. The result is that there is a lot of horizontal play when the lid is sitting in it. Overall, it's better than using the built in lid hook to hang it on the grill handle, but not by a lot.

I had a Weber kettle with a built-in lid holder for about 10 years. It was on it's last legs so when I moved I junked it and bought a new one. Unfortunately it didn't have the lid holder so I ordered a Slide-Aside. It clips over the top edge of the kettle and the lower portion just rests against the lower side of the kettle. It is narrower than the built-in variety and the bottom just sort of flops free. It does the job but I have to be careful not to pull it off the top of the kettle when I put the lid back on. Also, the clips that hold it to the top edge keep the lid from sealing completely, so when I finish cooking something and close the top and bottom vents air still gets in around the lid and keeps the charcoal burning much longer. It used to be I could cook a steak, close the vents, and the next time most of the charcoal would be left. Now most of the charcoal is gone and I have to sift down the ashes and refill the charcoal holders almost every time.

This is a relatively simple product so I will get straight to the point. I have a 18 1/2 one-touch gold and the lid already had a hook built in that would hold it to the uncovered grill. This device is inexpensive and will hold the lid a little more securely than the hook will. The only negative I could possible think of is that I have to remove the slide aside (takes all of 2 seconds) to fit the Weber deluxe cover over the grill. I also think this would be even better if I had the 22 1/2 inch grill since the lid for that is almost twice as heavy (neighbor has one). Not a necessity, but a decent add on for the grill. I gave it 5 stars because it fit perfect out of the box and does exactly what it says it will.

Uses for slide-aside,

Works great on a windy day to use lid as a wind break for the Webber Chimney! Lets me cook on days that would be too windy without it.

A heavy-weight with adjustable hooks.,
This review is from: Weber Slide-Aside (Lawn & Patio)
It seems to work fine except the lid does not sit at a right angle to the grill as shown in the picture. Quite honestly, the large (not small) hook on the inner side of the grill top is quite sufficient for hanging the top from the handle. However, if you are going to cook with the top on, then I'm not certain the handle would withstand the heat from the hook. In such a case, the 'Slide-Aside' would be very useful.

Weber Slide-Aside review,
This review is from: Weber Slide-Aside (Lawn & Patio)
The Weber Slide-Aside is a great product. Where to set the lid when checking what was being cooked had been a problem. One change was made to make the Slide-Aside more user friendly. I drilled two holes in the kettle about one inch below the rim of the kettle and also through the clips. By bolting the Slide-Aside at this location there is no interference with the lid.

I like to browse the Weber product line on Amazon to find that extra little something for my "I don't need anything for my birthday" husband. When I saw the Weber Slide-Aside, I knew it was something he would really use, and like!! And does he ever!
He uses his grill almost every evening in the summer, and said he cannot imagine how he did without it before. It is such a simple and efficient product...no tools necessary to install...just slide it on the side of the grill and start cooking. No more heat rings on the wood deck, accidental arm burns from the hot domed lid...just slide the dome over into the Slide-Aside. I highly recommend this product!

Working lid holder = safe place for hot lid,

This newly designed Slide Aside performs not only better than the previous version, but it performs better than the built in lid holder on my Weber Performer. For those operating a Weber 22 1/2 kettle, the Slide Aside allows you to "slide" the lid "aside" rather than either: A. Using the metal hook inside the lid or B. Having a friend wearing fire retardant gloves hold the lid. Since this version hugs to the lower half of the kettle so well, the Slide Aside actually allows you to have unobstructed access to the cooking surface while the Slide Aside is employed. On my Performer, the built in lid holder leaves the lid hanging over the cooking surface. This setup provides a challenge when trying to add additional charcoal during indirect cooking. My Performer is seven years old, so I have no idea if this problem is encountered on the new style. The only downside is that the Slide Aside barely allows a cover to fit over it. Other than that, a required addition to my Weber fleet.

The Slide-Aside helps keep the lid in it's place. Instead of trying to handle the hot lid and cook, or tying to find a place to put the lid it is right next to the grill. I would highly recommend this product.

Necessity,

This is a necessity. No more bending down to find the tiny hook on the underside of the lid...this makes the process about 100% more efficient.
