5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Grill. Excellent Value
I completed a thorough research of gas grills before I purchased a Weber Genesis Silver A Gas Grill, and I feel very confident that I made the right decision. Both the Genesis Silver A and B grills are outstanding. Which one you choose depends on your needs.

2.0 out of 5 stars What's the Big Deal?
I bought a new Genesis Silver B Propane and I don't see the big deal. It's not much better than a cheapy from Wally World. It's very heavy and very hard to clean up after cooking on it. It cooks hamburgers and steaks just like the cheapy so I don't see what makes it worth 3 times the price. Maybe the warranty? Could someone enlighten me?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Grill. Excellent Value, April 26, 2002
I completed a thorough research of gas grills before I purchased a Weber Genesis Silver A Gas Grill, and I feel very confident that I made the right decision. Both the Genesis Silver A and B grills are outstanding. Which one you choose depends on your needs.

For most people, the Silver B is probably the better choice. But the Silver A is the best economy priced model on the market and perfect for anyone who does not need a lot of extra grill space.

Both the A and B earned the distinguished "Best Buy" rating from Consumer Reports. And both were graded for overall satisfaction with other brands that cost more money. The Weber Genesis grills are the cheapest grills for their level of quality and a good buy. (...). They could easily sell for...more [money] than they do.

The Weber Genesis Silver grills are built to last a very long time. They have solid frames, stainless steel burners, porcelain-coated lids, etc. My grill looks like it will last 20 years. They come with an unusually long warranty. On the other hand, some of the cheaper other brands will rust out in a couple years and cook unevenly. The Webers are worth the extra money.

The Weber "flavorizer bars" are the secret to even, tasty grilling. They cook well.

My model has cast iron grates, which I prefer for better searing. But the porcelain-coated grates are easier to clean.

For most people the Genesis Silver B is the safer purchase, because it's larger. And you get more grilling and shelf space. You never know if you will need the extra space over the next ten years. Get the B if you expect to host parties and family gatherings, or if you have a large family.

The Genesis Silver A is better if you are looking for a more affordable grill. It really is a great value. You would be much better off with the Silver A than some of the other cheapo brands.

I bought the Weber Genesis Silver A because my small family does not need the extra space of the Silver B. We do gourmet cooking for ourselves, not a big party. It still looks big to me.

The Weber Genesis Silver grills are the best for taste and value in the long run.

5.0 out of 5 stars 18 YEAR TESTIMONY! Indestructible Grill!, March 22, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Weber 2003 Model 2281001 Genesis Silver B Propane Gas Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
First off, I do not own this particular model, BUT I do own a Weber Genesis II as it was called in 1985 when I bought it. The Genesis II is identical to this model except it's not stainless steel and has a few less bells and whistles. Essentially this newer model is like a grand child of the Genesis II.

I am a VERY AVID BBQ person using a grill 3-5 times every week rain or shine, and prior to my Weber purchase, it was not uncommon for me to literally WEAR OUT a gas BBQ in 2-3 years and be forced to buy a new one. Not only that, but in that 2-3 yr time I'd have to buy new lava rock, burners and lower grate because every part totally deteriorated.

FINALLY after wearing out 3 gas grills, I read how Weber Gas Grills are as bullet proof as their kettles, so I bought one. Granted, it was NOT [inexpensive]! ... But shortly after that and having tasted food off my Weber grill, several of my neighbors bought identical grills! LOL!!

And here I am EIGHTEEN YEARS LATER, having never replaced a single part, this grill works as well as it did the day I brought it home. You can't say that about other brands! I won't even mention how it hardly ever needs cleaning and when it does, it's a total breeze! There's no way I can say enough good things about my Weber Grill. This is definitely a grill you'll need to mention in your will because it will still be around after we leave here. -Chuck

5.0 out of 5 stars Thinking about changing from Charcoal to Gas?, September 4, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Weber 2003 Model 2281001 Genesis Silver B Propane Gas Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
UPDATE: now after 3 1/2 years, still happy, and the grill in optimal conditions just by following Weber guidance with regards to cleaning (warm water and soap twice/yr)...All the equipment (burners, etc) working great after 3 years.

Below my original post 2 yrs ago:

After years of cooking with only charcoal grills, I was afraid of changing to gas. I did it and I have been enjoying many happy dinners with family and friends. Once you learn how to sear food and how to use the 3 burners for different temperature sets, you wonder how you managed to cook w/o a gas grill before. I can do anything I was doing before in my owen and in my grill. The taste is very good thanks to the flavor bars, and the high temp allows a perfect sear. No problems at all after 18 months using it, even under the constant rain at Seattle!. Clean it is not a big deal if you follow weber guidelines with just soap and water. The tast is perfect, if you still miss the charcoal taste, you can add some wood chips in an aluminium tray and put that in one side. But that is not required, the grease and juices from the food droping into the hot flavorizer bars do the trick. If you are thinking about the model C, with the side burner, save some bucks. you cannot boil water or cook there, just keep warm some sauces.... buy the cover and accesories for the model B instead of expending that money on model C!

5.0 out of 5 stars No paint chips in burgers, January 30, 2003
By

This review is from: Weber 2003 Model 2281001 Genesis Silver B Propane Gas Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
To address the negative review which stated that if there was paint chips coming off the cover and landing in the food. If you read the manual that comes with it, they tell you specifically that the paint CANNOT chip without the temperature being at something like 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. The chips are actually just food or smoke debris from normal use. Clean your cover, the problem will be alleviated.

As for this grill, it is wonderful. The only adjustment I had to get used to is the fact that everything is cooked with the cover closed. My normal laborious work of flipping meat over a hot bbq has been reduced to simply going by the timing recommendations and halfway through, simply flipping the burger or other food product. As for the flavor bars, they work great. Really, I have had the best tasting bbq ever (and I love bbq) from this grill. It heats very accurately and quickly and cooks like a dream. Get this grill. It is amazing. Read the cooking manuals that come with it. If you go by that, you'll have perfect grilled food without a lot of work or effort. EL.

5.0 out of 5 stars As a matter of fact, it IS life-changing, November 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Weber 2003 Model 2281001 Genesis Silver B Propane Gas Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
I wanted to keep things in perspective in this review, so I thought I'd say something like "Yeah, it's a nice grill, but it's not like it's a life-changing experience". But then I realized that, as a matter of fact, it HAS changed my life in small but nice ways. We cook on the grill much more often than we did with our old grill, and my wife has commented several times on how much she likes my contributions to this never-ending task.

We are typically thrifty, and not prone to buying the more expensive version of things, but this is a case where are are very glad to have spent the extra money up-front. Why?
1) Temperature control - Unlike our previous gas grill, this one has real control over the temperature, and the three burners let you cook with direct or indirect heat. That REALLY expands the range of things you can cook. Thanksgiving dinner this year? Turkey with orange/clove stuffing. Even my picky grade-school kids like that one! (To keep things in perspective, its not like the burners provide absolutely uniform temperature. The right-hand side definitely gets hotter than the left. But it is FAR more uniform that the previous grill, which had a very noticeable hot spot and cool area.)
2) Cookbook - It comes with a nice cookbook that gets you started with using direct and indirect heat, marinades, etc.
3) CUSTOMER SERVICE - There have been a few times when I have needed to call Weber and I have always been very satisfied with the level of service. That is saying something, as I'm fairly hard to impress.

I don't know when this thing will wear out, but I have no doubt that the next gas grill I buy will be a Weber.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Grill Ever, February 13, 2002
By
"charliecorvette" (Colesville, Maryland USA) - See all my reviews
This is my third propane grill and the first really good one. Follow Weber cooking directions for indirect heat and proper temperature and time. Your food will then be properly cooked, tender and properly moist. My baby back ribs look like a masterpiece of mahogany art. Use sauce from Rendevous Restaurant in Memphis Tn.

5.0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile investment, June 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Weber 2003 Model 2281001 Genesis Silver B Propane Gas Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
I have owned this grill for about 5 years now, and have to say I couldn't be happier. The initial investment has payed itself back considering after 5 years of sitting outside in upstate New York, the grill still works like the day I got it. I am now on my third grill cover (the other 2 wore out), but the grill will probably last another 10 years. It still looks great too!

As far as cooking goes, I am glad I chose the model with 3 burners. They allow very good temperature control, weather your slow cooking ribs or grilling steaks at high temps. With the lid down, the internal temperature easily reaches 500 degrees, and from a cold start, it only takes about 5 minutes to get that hot. I highly reccomend you clean out the inside of the grill once a year. It takes less than an hour, but is well worth the effort. I just remove the foil tray, place a cardboard box underneath, and scrape it clean with a spatula.
Think of it this way: while you're cleaning out your Weber, most people are throwing thier rusty old grill away.

The gauge pointer that tells you how full your tank is can be helpfull, but is not too accurate, but it will prevent you from starting a holiday barbacue with an almost empty tank.

Considering the life I've gotten out of this grill, it's good looks, and ease of use, I wouldn't trade my Weber for anything. I know folks who have gone through 3 grills, while my one Weber just keeps on going. In the long run, it's the cheapest grill you can buy. Just ask around. You'll find two groups of people. Those that have a Weber, and those that wish they did.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic grill, April 15, 2003
This review is from: Weber 2003 Model 2281001 Genesis Silver B Propane Gas Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
I have owned this model for two years and have been enormously impressed with its quality, durability and ease of use. Prior to owning this model, I had a Sunbeam and ended up replacing the burner element after a year of use. $ seems pretty steep at first but when you compare this grill to others on the market and take into account the fact that it will probably last 20 years or more, the decision is a no-brainer. The Silver B gives you more cooking area and three burners compared to the Silver A - which only has two burners. Don't be fooled by BTU comparisons with other manufacturers either. Weber uses heat much more efficiently and requires less BTUs to get the job done. Using the indirect cooking mode, you can use the grill much like an oven. I recommend buying one of the rotissierie attachments and a set of 16 inch tongs made by Oxo.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best purchases I ever made!, May 29, 2002
By
"ekdunbar" (Essex Junction, VT United States) - See all my reviews
This is the best grill I have ever owned! Not only does it look good and feel well built it cooks evenly without flare ups! I have cooked steaks, chicken, vegetables, ribs and misc. other items so far. This grill maintains a constant temperature without having to mess around with the controls all the time.

It took me about 10 minutes to put the grill together following the directions that came with it.

I highly recommend this, it's worth the money!
