1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing at this price
HEATS TOO SLOWLY - I have mine supplied with a 1/2" natural gas line (consistent with manufacturer specs). It takes 10-15 minutes to get to full operating temperature.

POOR ZONE CONTROL - Zones are arranged front, middle, back rather than left and right. If you're trying to cook a meal of chicken, fish, and vegetables for example, it is nearly impossible to...

The quality of the Weber is very good, particularly in relation to other more expensive grills out there. I was looking for a Natural Gas (NG) grill and soon found that you have to step up in quality to get into an NG model. I quickly found out that you can not convert most propane models to NG, particularly the cheaper mass-market models. I looked at a number of higher priced grills and found them to be fairly flimsy. The Weber comes in a big box with the claim that one can go from box to grilling in ten minutes. This is not far from the truth, the set up was amazingly easy. You do need to have your NG supply ready though. The Weber comes with a quick connect for the gas line, all you need is a shut off valve and a 1/2 inch male threaded fiting.

Cooking on the grill is great, although I burned the first meal because I wasn't used to a grill that actually got hot.

I've had all the others (ok, they were propane and this is natural gas), but this is my dream grill. I've had grills from the other big vendors - Sunbeam, Chargrill, Coleman - but they've all rusted out in a matter of months. Everyone said that Weber was the way to go. They're right. I can do the tough stuff on this one, too -- chicken turns out great and the steaks are better than the steak house down the street. The grill cooks evenly and performs flawlessly. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Amazon deal!, April 22, 2002

This grill really is everything it claims to be. Food cooks quickly and evenly. Best part: it really is easy to assemble. They're not exaggerating when they claim a few minutes and single tool they provide. The only comment I have: they should tell you you need two people to assemble it. It comes mostly in one piece and two people are needed to lift the body onto the frame. Otherwise, this is a piece of cake! Price was good and no shipping or local sales tax either.

POOR ZONE CONTROL - Zones are arranged front, middle, back rather than left and right. If you're trying to cook a meal of chicken, fish, and vegetables for example, it is nearly impossible to control the temperature to cook the whole meal and serve it all warm at the same time.

RACKS RUSTING in less than two years. The enamel coated racks appeared to be of very high quality but have already lost their coating and are starting to rust.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great grill and easy to setup, August 1, 2003
By
This review is from: Weber 2381001 Genesis Silver B Natural Gas Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
This is a great grill and is very easy to setup. We were able to set it up in about 20 mins, and that includes reading the instructions. That is very good compared to some of the 3 hours stories I've heard about other grills.

Once setup, the connection to the natural gas line was even easier. I was worried about the gas line hookup but the instructions were clear and the hookup was easy.

Lighting the grill is easy as well. You can use the built lighter switch to get the front burner going and once that is going starting the 2 other burners is as easy as turning them on.

If you are looking for a nice grill at a fair price that is easy to setup, then look no farther.

5.0 out of 5 stars These Gas Webers are FANTASTIC !, January 21, 2003

I do not have this specific Weber but have one that is over 15 years old! This one is even better because of the plastic shelves. I have replaced the grates with new cast iron ones and have replaced the flavorizer bars with stainless steel. The rest of the BBQ is still great. When you net out the higher cost of the unit and average it out over the time you own it it is the best deal ever. Besides all the replacement are easily available at Home Depot! Oh. I live in Florida and use it all year round too. Natural gas models can be also converted to propane or propane to natural gas.

3.0 out of 5 stars Leaves a sooty residue and flavor, January 19, 2003

The shallow grease collection pan/tray in the underside seems to be too close to the grill so that if you grill anything with even minimal fat, it flares up into a flame and leaves a decidedly sooty taste on the food. Adding to the sooty residue and flavor is the shape of the sides of the grill which slope inwards and bring the sides of the grill too close to the heat source which heat the drippings and catch fire. The electronic igniter was no better than the one on cheaper models - it broke before its first summer was over. After 30 years of grilling with gas/propane grills this is pretty unpleasant. I really wish I had not gotten this grill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another league, October 15, 2003

A few years ago, wife and I decided that Weber was really too expensive and bought a cheaper gas grill, which dutifully died an unglorious death. Very difficult to clean, on top of that. Well, after buying this grill I have to say I appreciate the extra cost. Materials are very good, it works perfectly, and it's built in a way that makes it very easy to clean. Somebody told me to use warm water and vinegar, and it's just perfect.

The three burners version is probably preferable for people in Northern States who want to use it also during the cold months.

5.0 out of 5 stars LP Convert, November 10, 2002

I was an adamant charcoal user for years until I bought a new house with an LP hookup outside, and I'm now a convert. I got this grill 4th of July weekend and love it. It's great to go out, turn a valve, hit the igniter and have a hot grill in less than 5 minutes. The grill works great and heats very evenly (though the right side of the grill seems to be marginally hotter...not enough to make a big difference). Set-up was a breeze too.

5.0 out of 5 stars After 18 years, I need a new one., April 6, 2003
By
This review is from: Weber 2381001 Genesis Silver B Natural Gas Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
I have the old Genesis that is the grandfather of the Genesis B. It's been nothing short of incredible. Needless to say, Weber grills are as easy to use and durable as advertised.

While the surface of the wooden shelf supports are rusting, I can hardly complain. After all of these years of constant use and year-round outdoor storage in the north east, the only parts it has ever needed are one set of new grates (the cast iron are great). Unless Weber is going to replace my old one (accepting it for display in the Weber museum), I'll be very satisfied to pay for a new one expecting the same quality.
