I looked for 2 months and found this to be a great product. I live in an area that has no burn days so wood is not an option. I think wood gives more heat overall but the advantages of not dealing with the mess wins out in my book. I also have other Weber products and found that they make quality products.

I really wanted a natural gas fireplace for my covered patio. Burning wood is not an option as it would smoke up the patio cover. I also wanted a cool looking fireplace and not the regular old tired looking wall mounted fireplaces, but something more utility looking.
The Weber 27001 looks awesome. It is solidly built and easy enough to put together. However, I do believe I see why other folks are rating it only 4 instead of 5 stars - it isn't as warm as you'd think it's gonna be. I think it has a rating of 62,000Btu. Sounds like alot. But, place it outside in the open and that Btu rating doesn't amount to much warmth. You really have to get right up on the thing to feel the heat. It does look pretty when burning. It doesn't do all that great at giving that wood-burning feeling though. It is super easy to use, safe and solid. It just doesn't quite live up to my 5 star expectations and therefore gets 4 stars. I have been using it for about a month a few nights a week in the dry Vegas air, on my covered patio in about 40 to 50 degree nights. And everyone crowds around it trying to get warm. I wish it was better at heating up the area. Of course what did I expect seeing as how it IS in an open air area? I think I expected it to give the heat you get from small camp fires. It doesn't. That's too bad. I would expect that if it had glass inserts or a reflective surface that would probably help. As it is, this is a nice looking fireplace that is super easy to use and built with quality. It's function, however, leaves a bit to be desired - it just is not warm enough.

It was very easy to assemble. At first the flame burned a very blue color which didn't look natural but as the fireplace heated up the flame turned a more natural orange color. It's very easy to move around because of the wheels. We've already gotten a lot of use out of it. It's fun to be able to have a fire whenever you want with no work or cleanup from a wood buring fire.
