5.0 out of 5 stars Piece of cake!
Very easy to remove old igniter and install this one on my Weber Spirit 500 grill. Took about 5 minutes and started up on the first push of the button. No more trying to light a match and stick it through the hole on a windy/cold day.

2.0 out of 5 stars Weber Ignitor
The first things to go bad in my Weber Genesis were the flavorizer bars. It was a little over two years. The porcelain burned off, and they rusted through. I replaced the bars with stainless steel bars so they would not rust out again.

Now the steel box on the ignigtor is rusted out, and the grill won't light. The cheap tin electrode enclosure rusted so...

I have had a Weber Silver B grill for several years. I have found that the igniter works for about two years, then just does has to be replaced. This is an easy replacement, and is not expensive. This ignighter works as well as any I have seen, and I think the minor cost and inconvenience of replacing the ignighter is offset by the quality of the grill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Replacement Igniter, February 23, 2010

After 9 years of use, the wiring broke on the igniter for my Weber Genesis Silver B grill (Pre 2002). I located this replaced and decided to purchase. (You can alway use a match but who knows when it may be a windy day.) Once I realized the top panel of the grill with the white ignition button needed to unscrewed and removed before the old igniter could be removed, everything else was easy. The installation directions were good and the ignition system worked as promised. I am not very mechanical but this was a very easy install, even for me.

Very simple to install if you need a new starter. However, after installing a new starter, new burner tubes, and new flavorizer bars (all easy), I discovered that something was wrong with one of the valves in my manifold. I recommend this kit highly if you need a new starter, but make sure you actually need one. First turn the gas on and spray Windex (easier than soapy water) over everything that might be leaking.

2.0 out of 5 stars Weber Ignitor, May 21, 2010
This review is from: Weber 3612 Igniter Kit (Lawn & Patio)
The first things to go bad in my Weber Genesis were the flavorizer bars. It was a little over two years. The porcelain burned off, and they rusted through. I replaced the bars with stainless steel bars so they would not rust out again.

Now the steel box on the ignigtor is rusted out, and the grill won't light. The cheap tin electrode enclosure rusted so bad that half of the enclosure was gone (vaporized ?!).

Now my grilling grates are begining to rust through. The porcelain is burned off and the grate is rusted through.

It's costed me over $150.00 in replacement parts already.

I would not reccomend that you cover your grill if left outside. The cover will keep the moisture inside the grill and the components will rust out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Igniter doesnt Fail - ss box does, April 2, 2007
This review is from: Weber 3612 Igniter Kit (Lawn & Patio)
I have had to replace the igniter twice in almost 15 years. The igniter was actually still quite good. It is very well made as are most Weber products. The stainless steel gas box is what eventually fails due to rusting (yep stainless steel will rust especially if subjected to heat).
It is easy to replace and I end up giving the entire grill a cleaning and tuneup.

Can't say too much for a replacement ignitor system but it works. It installed as easily as expected, and appeared to be of a slightly better quality than the part that it replaced. If the previous part is any indication, it should last about 5-7 years, hard to believe in this time of designed obsolesence.

I just rebuilt the Genesis I.
It didnt need the igniter as it lit on the first click
every time anyway. But changed it as it was 7 years old or
so. Also changed the flavorizor bars as they were about
worn away.

My Weber 900 LP is the 1998 Home Depot version of the Spirit 700 - same grill. This new igniter replaced the old in ten minutes with ease.

Great product, thanks for keeping the spare items on the shelves!
