5.0 out of 5 stars Great All Around Grill Comparable to the Best, January 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Weber 3742001 Genesis E-310 Propane Grill, Copper (Lawn & Patio)
Summary -- a great grill with even cooking across the grill, gets hot (over 600 deg F), with a bit of clunky charm and plenty of accessories.

OK -- I've had a very expensive grill (>$2k) for the past 5 years, and traded it for furniture when I moved. After researching grills, the great unwashed mass and periodicals indicated that Weber Grills had even temperatures across the grill. That was important because my former grill was hot, hot, hot but very uneven in temps across the grill. My only concern with the Weber was, "Is it hot enough?"

Quick Answer -- yes -- it climbed to 550 F fairly quickly and was still climbing. That was important because I want to grill Pizza.

Assembly - I hope you have your own hex set because the one supplied takes time. An auto screwdriver is a helpful addition. This is a 2 person bonding experience for assembly, at least for me, as I'm easily bored. The directions (pictures) are not bad but doesn't anyone write a manual using words in our native tongue? Assembly may take 1.5 hr +/- depending on your do it yourself talents.

First time use was steaks -- the grill is hot! and sears well -- they turned out perfectly - medium rare; Second time was chicken; next was scallops. They all turned out delicious and the grill is a snap to use.

I recommend the grill cover and adding the smokers kit if you want to slow cook ribs, chicken, etc. I laid a smoke box on the Weber twice and the grill produced fine smoke. I think the Weber kit will smoke the chips faster and hotter since it lays on the flavor grates.

The cons? OK -- it is clunky looking compared to my uber-expensive grill. But then, it was $649 (LP Version) and cooks better than Mr. Uber-Expensive.

Overall, I am very satisfied with this grill and highly recommend it.

This review is from: Weber 3742001 Genesis E-310 Propane Grill, Copper (Lawn & Patio)
I bought the Weber Genesis E-310 Copper grill to replace a number of cheap box store grills I've had over the years. The last box store grill I had lasted 4 years of frequent use, and the bottom (complete with burners) dropped out on my patio a few weeks ago completely rusted through. I had a charcoal grill in storage and I broke it out and used it for a few weeks, but it soon became apparent that I had to get a new gas grill. After much research I settled on the Weber.

The reasons I settled on this grill are as follows:

1. The firebox is cast , not thin sheet metal. This should be the first thing you look at on any new grill. Look at the material the firebox is made of, this most likely will determine the life of the grill.

2. Stainless steel burners. Made to last, and Weber stocks replacement parts. If you can't find replacement parts for the newest grills at the big box stores, do you think you'll be able to find them in a year or two after they come out with a new model?

3. Welded not riveted. If you wanna see the difference this makes, next time your in a box store, grab one of those riveted grills and torque it back and forth a few times... it will feel like a flexy cardboard box. This grill feels solid.

4. Side tables are sturdy. Same test as above. Get a big guy like me to push on your side tables and see how solid they are.

The Weber exceeds at all these tests. It feels like quality, and it feels like a grill that will last.

Buying experience:

First of all, the grill arrived a day early, taking 4 business days to arrive via freight. The grill ships in a VERY large box and it is most definitely too heavy and large for one person, no matter how big you are. Don't even think about it. I'm 6'2 around 215 and I couldn't even move it without much strain.

The grill was packed very well, very well thought out and well protected. I was impressed with the amount of thought that was put into the design of the packaging.

As an engineering student in college, I appreciate the effort required to not only clearly explain how to assemble the grill, but to machine the parts to fit together in such an accurate, well fit manner. I was REALLY REALLY impressed with the fit and finish of the grill, and although the instructions could have been made more clear, the pictures really do explain the process adequately enough, and I had no problems assembling the grill. It took me just over an hour from box opening to first light. The hardware provided is quality, and all the holes lined up easily. As previously mentioned, a 7/16" nut driver will make the process much quicker. The assembly of this grill was a pleasure.

The lighting system is very nice, and does the job quickly. All the burners worked perfectly, and the grill gets hot very quickly, reaching cooking temperature in 5-6 minutes for me. Some previous posters have commented negatively on the fact that the grill has the gas controls on the side table, taking up room. After I studied this setup, it's clear that the reason for this is because of the design of the burners. They run lengthwise along the bottom of the grill and the gas valve in the side table are mechanical valves incorporated into the burners, I'd guess that Weber did this because it's more reliable and complements their style of burner. I'd like to have the side table space too, but not at the cost of reliability.

All in all, the grill performed exactly as I expected (not such an easy feat) and exceeded my expectations in quality of manufacturing. Weber did an excellent job with this grill and I feel comfortable predicting that the grill lasts at least 2-3 times longer than any grill I've previously owned.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent gril, April 27, 2010

This review is from: Weber 3742001 Genesis E-310 Propane Grill, Copper (Lawn & Patio)
I was looking around for a new grill and decided to check consumer reports. According to CR's rating, this is the best grill on the market in its' price range. I also looked at other reviews and found that everyone that purchased this grill loved it. I am now one of those folks. Putting the grill together took about two hours. the instructions are 98% pics, which wasn't ideal (some verbiage to go along with the pics would have made assembly a lot easier). Once I started cooking on the grill I immediately saw the difference between this grill and less expensive grills. This grill is top of the line. Flare ups are virtually non existent. It is extremely easy to light and cooks evenly...you'd almost have to try to actually burn something. On previous grills the outside of the meat would be almost burned (due to flare ups) while the inside was still raw...not with this grill. I seasoned the grates with vegetable oil and baking in the oven for a total of 60 min (350 for 30 min, then wipe off excess oil and bake for another 30 min). I wasn't thinking and did it on a cool day...ended up with a nice burned oil smell in the house...but the seasoning worked great. Nothing sticks to the grates. This is definitely a quality grill, built well. I expect it to last many years...much longer than the $150 grills. If you like grilling, are looking for a high quality unit and don't mind spending a little more, this is the one for you!!
