Weber Genesis E-310 - Great all around gas grill,
This review is from: Weber 3747001 Genesis E-310 Propane Grill, Dark Green (Lawn & Patio)
When it came time for me to buy a grill, I looked immediately to the Weber Genesis series, mainly because my family has always owned Webers and we've never been disappointed by them. My dad's prior Genesis grill lasted about 10 years before needing to be replaced, and likely would have lasted longer if it weren't for the harsh South Florida climate (the humid air down there is really rough on anything metal that's left outside).
I opted for the E-310 as I didn't need a side burner and didn't quite feel like paying up for the stainless steel model (which is nice, but hard to keep clean!). This is a GREAT all around grill. IMO, there's nothing worse than a cheap gas grill - they don't maintain even heat, they don't get hot enough, and they often have the heat source too close to the food. I have a feeling a lot of the charcoal snobs out there (and I admit I used to be one myself) believe so ardently in charcoal's superiority partly because they've compared it only to a cheapo gas grill - guess what, it isn't the "rich smokey flavor" that makes charcoal grills great, it's the heat (they get hotter than most of the cheaper gas grills available) and the evenness of the heat. When buying a gas grill, you DO get what you pay for - and the Weber Genesis series is worth it. My Weber will heat to 600+ degrees, maintains even heat, and the heat source is far enough from the food to limit flare ups. I've had this for about 2 weeks now and even I'm surprised how much I use it - almost every night (and THAT IMO is the main advantage of gas vs. charcoal, this thing is so convenient that I use it probably 5 times a week even though I live alone so I'm usually cooking for one). Thus far I've cooked steaks, pork chops, chicken breasts, and chicken wings on it (as well as sides like corn on the cob, asparagus, and new potatoes, all done on the grill of course), and it's ALL come out great. I'm very happy with it and I'm sure it'll only get better as the grill gets broken in and as I get more experienced using it. If I've helped convince you to spring for the E-310, there's one thing you should consider (aside from whether to go stainless steel and whether to go with a side burner - those are both personal preferences) that you may not know about: there's a choice between cast iron and stainless still grill grates. I'm pretty sure the one offered on Amazon has the cast iron. Now, in most cases I think cast iron is great for cooking (it really holds the heat in better and gives a superior sear vs. other metals), HOWEVER cast iron does not hold up very well when left outside, especially if you live in a humid climate. Also, it's harder to clean. For this reason, if you live in a humid climate I'd recommend going for the version of the E-310 that has a stainless steel grill, you can find them if you look around. You can still get that cast iron sear when you want it by simply buying a Lodge cast iron skillet or griddle (available here on Amazon for < $20) and using it right on the Weber grill for certain dishes - I did this for a Filet Mignon the other night and it produced an excellent sear. Overall, 5 stars for the Weber Genesis for a great cooking experience AND great Weber quality that should last you 10 years or more, if properly taken care of.

I love this grill, and I love Weber. My first Weber lasted 10 years of year round use (in New England) and finally died on me. I had a lot of trouble finding a good selection of Webers at local mass retailer, (HD), but found this on line for less, with no shipping and no state tax. It assembled in about two hours, and looks and works great. Push button ignition works especially well.

Best turkey ever.,

I did rotisserie turkey on this grill for Thanksgiving. I cooked a 14 pound bird. When everything was said and done, the turkey was almost falling apart it was so tender. I was concerned about the size of the turkey and possibly hitting the flavorizer bars, but just take the favorizer bars out of the middle, and put in a drip tray, and there's more than enough room.
I used indirect heat and was careful to keep the temperature at just under 325. It was done almost 4 hours into it and I still had another couple hours before dinner, so I just turned the gas all the way down and let it stay on the rotisserie to keep warm. The temp was still close to 250. After about an hour and a half of this, it was starting to a fall apart. It really was quite good when we all sat down to eat it.

This is a great grill and Amazon made it an incredibly easy process. Fast shipping (Eagle Freight) and 45 minutes to assemble. Piece of cake. Highly recommended.

The newest Weber at our house,

I just put together the Weber 310 and it is cooking well. Our old Weber came with much better instructions & cookbook all enclosed in a 3 ring binder. The new instructions are printed on a large piece of newsprint paper and the pictures can be confusing. I needed to call Weber many times to clarify instructions. I was missing one nut and Weber substituted another type that works. When I called, they said that the missing nut is backed ordered and I would be receiving it as soon as it is available. It came about 2 weeks after I had the grill together and the nut is part of assembly instruction # 8 in instructions that run to # 22. I have not undone the work to put the correct nut in place.
The grill works great. It is a pleasure to cook with. I got the non Weber grill cover and it fits perfectly and keeps the rain out. Apparently, the Weber brand cover allows the rain to get in.

I debated for a long time whether or not to spend the extra money and get a "really good" grill this time, rather than another $300 Lowe's special that would need the burners and grids replaced every couple of years. My son-in-law had bought a Weber grill a couple of years ago and was very pleased with it, so I decided to go ahead and spring for the Genesis. Shopped around a lot for price -- wound up back at Amazon, with free super-saver shipping. Best price on the net (and WAY better than local stores). Keep in mind this was a 185-pound carton and had to be delivered motor freight. It came within 6 days, and the driver put the box right in my storage room and waited while I popped the top and did an inspection. Weber packs 'em right -- except they could use a little more padding right on top -- and it arrived in perfect shape. Assembly took about 3 hours -- the instructions were "pictograms" - no words - and there was actually an error in one of the diagrams for the basic framework assembly - this should be corrected. It won't go together they way they show, but it took me about 15 minutes to be sure!
Fired it up and everything worked perfectly. My first grilling task was a butterflied chicken - came out great. Then burgers, which would have been a fiery mess on my old CharBroil -- not a flare-up in sight. Perfect. Worth every penny I paid.

My husband was very impressed with the quality of the grill when he put
it together. He was very happy with the way it was made. We have been very pleased with our food on this grill. The old saying "you get what you pay for" and the price at amazon was better than when I checked at Lowes or Home Depot. One of the really nice features is that you can use the indirect heat method for a lot of your meats. We did a beer can chicken and it was excellent and done in just 70 minutes.

I love my grill,
This review is from: Weber 3747001 Genesis E-310 Propane Grill, Dark Green (Lawn & Patio)
I love my grill and the Weber company is very responsive. The item was delivered damaged and they replaced the parts without an issue. I wish the grill had a built in smoker. Pay attention to the grill care and make sure you know what kind of surface you have before you clean it. Weber reps can help you with that. After many uses and after about 5 months of grilling, the enamel on the hood almost looks like it has vanished around a small section near the handle. But I'm not worried. Weber has a long warrantee on the hood. (I think it's 25 years.) The burners run left to right. So even when you want to make a small quick meal, you have to heat the whole grill. If the burners ran front to back, you could just heat one side. But hey, this is small inconvenience when I eating a delicious meal. Enjoy.

After years of buying grills a few hundred dollars cheaper, having them work ok, and ultimately die by year four or five, this time I spent the extra few hundred. So far (its been a month), its been worth every penny. It hits a super high max temp around 600 very quickly (great for searing), gives you great heat control, cleans up like a dream, and is built like a tank. No surprise that Consumer Reports rates this #1 in quality.

Purchased this propane grill to replace a 3 year old non-Weber grill that stated needing an overhaul. I am very impressed with every aspect of this grill. Very well engineered by the Weber folks in suburban Chicago. Assembly was fine -- no words; just pictures which was OK. Looks fantastic and heated up to 500 degrees in less than 15 minutes. That's plenty hot enough for me. At this point,I have no suggestions for the Weber folks. Buying through Amazon made it easy for me with the free shipping through Amazon Prime. It was a very large box and would have been very difficult transporting from my local hardware store. Another great Amazon experience and thrilled with the Weber Product. You will not be disappoined. I got the grill cover too but have not opened it up yet.
