Amazon.com Review

At first glance, Weber gas grills look like something that might be shot into space or driven in a Formula 1 race rather than the sleek cooking machines they really are. This is an understandable mistake, because with its Genesis series of grills, Weber has made the time-honored tradition of outdoor cooking state-of-the-art, virtually putting an entire kitchen at your fingertips and on your patio. The Genesis Platinum C features a generous 611 square inches of total cooking area, which includes the primary cooking area, a warming rack, and a warm-up basket. Its three stainless-steel burners supply an input of 39,000 Btu's per hour and provide 550-degree broiling temperatures without wasting fuel. Platinum series grills also include a waterless smoker accessory that can be used in conjunction with mesquite or hickory chips to give a smoky edge to your cooking, as well as stainless-steel cooking grates. In place of the lava rock, pumice stone, or flat metal plates found in most common gas grills, Weber Platinum grills feature stainless-steel versions of the company's patented Flavorizer bars, which do not retain dripped fats. Instead, juices sizzle and smoke when they hit the Flavorizers, eliminating potentially disastrous flare-ups and imparting a delectable smoky flavor to your feast.

Getting the grill ready to cook that feast doesn't take long, either. Weber's Crossover ignition system enables you to effortlessly start all three burners, which have been positioned to heat your food evenly. A dual-purpose thermometer included in the front of the grill unit measures the temperature under the hood; it can also be removed and used as a meat thermometer to ensure a thoroughly cooked meal every time. And you won't need to scramble for seasonings (or recipes--Weber provides a cookbook) or use a separate table while cooking, thanks to several convenient features. In addition to the double-walled stainless-steel hood and handy stainless-steel work surface, complete with a stainless-steel towel bar, a wire shelf is situated beneath the grill, enclosed by stainless-steel doors, a feature exclusive to the Platinum C. In addition, this model features a side burner, rated at 14,000 Btu's per hour, that is perfect for creating a side dish to accompany your perfectly cooked main course. With its lid open, the Genesis Platinum C measures 61-1/2 inches tall, 69-1/2 inches wide, and 34 inches deep. This powerful cooking machine is easily moved, however, thanks to its crackproof all-weather wheels and locking casters, which prevent it from moving when you're cooking. While a grill cover is recommended to protect your grill from the elements, Weber's engineers did take outdoor storage into consideration and, with the help of entomologists, added special spiderproof screens to prevent the burner tubes from being clogged by cobwebs or nests.

This grill features Weber's Stop Watch engineering. Now it takes approximately 10 minutes to assemble your grill with no more than eight fasteners and a single tool. Weber even throws in the tool. Manufacturer's limited lifetime warranty. --Benjamin Reese

Product Description

The Genesis Platinum gas grill is available in one model featuring three burners and a side burner, our unique patented Flavorizer bar cooking system, patented hanging LP fuel scale (LP models only), Crossover ignition system, solid robot-welded carts, and a double-walled stainless steel hood. Stainless steel is a very durable choice of materials, but intense heat will cause it to discolor. Weber engineers solved this problem with a double-walled design. Air trapped between the walls insulates the handsome brushed stainless exterior maintaining its showroom condition. This model features a large side table that is constructed of cast aluminum and stainless steel for years of service, stainless steel welded cooking grates, stainless steel flavorizer bars, and a commercial grade side burner. Virtually factory assembled, this model only requires four bolts for final assembly. All propane models include a 20-pound propane tank. All models also feature a limited lifetime warranty.

This review is from: Weber 4260001 Genesis Platinum C Propane Gas Grill, Stainless Steel (Lawn & Patio)
Although I don't barbecue that often (once or twice a month during spring/summer), I didn't want a grill that I would throw out after a season or two. In addition, I didn't want a charcoal grill or one that would become an eyesore after a few months on the patio. As a result of reading many positive reviews on the Genesis series, I decided to purchase the Platinum version.
I would have to say it was a huge package; however, it was delivered to the patio and I didn't have to move it. I'd have to say the grill had been nicely packaged and all the pieces arrived without damage. This was a nice surprise. Certainly, I wasn't looking forward to return this thing. Initially, everything went well. There is very little to assemble. Weber's slogan of "Stopwatch Engineering" is more than just a marketing gimmick. I had the grill assembled in about 15 minutes.
Unfortunately, I had to skip a step. There are four sets of bolt/washers. Because one of the bars with a bolt had been welded on upside-down, I couldn't use one of them. Wow, how did Weber miss that! Oh boy, I thought. Because I knew something like this could happen, I had made sure the reviews indicated customer support was good. Well, it is very good. Simply gave them the serial number off the grill and they agreed to send me a new part. Within about a week, the part arrived and the part was without flaw. After that, I was very happy with Weber and considered this a smart purchase. Prior to receiving the part, I had given a house warming party (barbecue) for about thirty guests. Grill handle this without a glitch and their flavorizer bars seem to work. No burnt meat.
Unfortunately, the story doesn't end there. I bought the grill cover and it blew off several times. Finally, a corner of the grill caused the cover to tear. This was poorly designed. Customer service came to the rescue again. Shipped a new cover ASAP and to my surprise it had been redesigned. It now has velcro straps to secure it and is thicker. Doesn't blow off and probably won't tear so easily. It would have been nice to recall those poorly designed units. Also, I wish my local Ace Hardware store where I purchased this could have handled the return. They don't seem to be the helpful hardware place.
Finally, I have one more problem. One of the cotter pins for the lid is missing. Apparently, it wasn't there when I received the grill. Didn't notice it until the lid seemed to slip. Oh well. I'm counting on customer service again. Although I've had a few problems, the grill is nice looking and does a great job. Needless to say, customer service is great. Food is cooked evenly, good size cooking area, excellent design, and the starting mechanism is nice.
