Great Grill - Amazon Model doesn't have cast iron grates,
This review is from: Weber 4411001 Spirit E-210 Propane Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
This grill is great. Be aware that the Amazon model doesn't have cast iron grates like the Home Depot model has. I complained to Weber and they sold me cast iron grates for 42 dollars with no shipping. I would have bought from Home Depot if I knew this.

Cast Iron Grates...,
By altos (West Coast) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Weber 4411001 Spirit E-210 Propane Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
The 210 is an excellent gas grill, far superior to the big box Char-Broils, Forge or other cheap, flimsy, cheap, poor heat, cheap... units.
One item; it is absolutely true that units sold at Home Depot have cast iron grates, not the bent sheetmetal grates sold with 210's everywhere else. The box storing the grates is marked "Genesis", not "Spirit". This makes a significant difference (IMHO) and is worth a trip to Home Depot. Check the units at the stores to be sure. Enjoy,

I rented a house in Sedona, Arizona for a month where they had a gas grill. Friends visited and grilled up some outrageous steaks and salmon. I had a little Weber Smokey Joe at home that I had not used for years. The charcoal system became too dirty and too much trouble. I never purchased a gas grill as I thought that really great tasting food could not be created on a gas grill.
When I returned home from my trip I went to Target, Walmart and Home Depot shopping for grills. Home Depot had a full-featured, large stainless steel grill on sale. Orginal price $369 - Sale price $199. The floor unit was the only one remaining unit in all the Phoenix stores. I won't mention the brand name. I purchased the grill and arranged for friends to pickup the following day as it was too big to load into my SUV. I knew it was poorly constructed but the price was too tempting. When I got home that evening I started reading reviews on the grill that I had just purchased. Nearly all of them were negative. I saw the Webers on the floor at Home Depot. The quality was CLEARLY superior. However, they were also considerably more expensive. I decided that I wanted a pleasant grilling experience. I could not picture having friends over for dinner and having burner difficulties. I returned to Home Depot early the next morning. canceled the original purchase and purchased the Weber Spirit E-210. I had Home Depot assemble the grill for me. Cooking on a gas grill is a either a science or art. If you don't know how to do it, the results will be poor. I watched a gas grilling video on [...] by an executive chef from Morton's Steak House. [...] This video got me going in the right direction. The key points are high heat preheat and closed cover cooking. You can copy and paste the link to the video into your browser. This grill heats up to 600 degrees quickly. Everything about it is quality, quality. There is a wonderful disposable drip pan system with foil drip pans. The grill plates are heavy steel meaning you will get even heating over all of your meats. Some other reviews mention this unit as having too small a cooking area. Obviously they are cooking for soccer teams. In my opinion, this grill is big enough for any family. There is no side burner or rotisserie although an attachment can be purchased. I have a Showtime rotisserie so that wasn't a big deal for me. I love this grill. It is truly one of the quality items that I own.

Can't Go Wrong with Weber,

I didn't want to spend more than $400 for a new grill and although I could have gotten one with more features and BTUs than the E-210 for the same price, I went with the Weber. The quality of construction and materials is on a different level than ones from CharBroil or Brinkmann (and others). The 10 year warranty on the burner tubes and 5 year warranty on the porcelain-enameled iron grates will let you sleep well at night.
So far, I have not found any hot/cold spots in the grill. The burner design is really nice to evenly heat, but just don't get into a habit of opening the lid of the grill to constantly check on your food. The specs say only 26,000 BTU total, but the heat distribution is finely tuned so it will actually cook better and faster than a cheaper grill sporting 40,000+ BTU. Do yourself a favor though and buy this from Home Depot. They have an exclusive contract with Weber so only they offer the upgraded porcelain-enameled cast iron cooking grates. Everywhere else offers the lower quality ones that will not last as long. Also, Home Depot offered me free assembly, which I did. My only complaint with Home Depot is that they took 3 days longer than they said to assemble it and one of the lower apron doors was dented. No worries, I called Weber customer support and they sent me a new door with no questions asked. You pay alittle more for Webers and get less gimmicky features, but the quality and level of customer service (all Americans on the phones) is worth the premium. And most Webers will last you 10+ years easily.

This is a good as it gets for a basic , excellent quality grill. I replaced my old Weber Grill after 13+ years with this same entry level grill. It is still being made with excellent quality. Easy to read instructions & quite simple to put together. If you have put grills together that are not made by Weber, you know how difficult and time consumming they can be. Well Done Weber !!

Buyer Beware!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Weber 4411001 Spirit E-210 Propane Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
We bought this through Amazon. Like most people, we looked at this EXACT model in various stores before buying at EXACTLY the same price. For me, the most important part of a grill are the grates on which you cook and were a major reason for buying this model. When it arrived, however, the grates were the cheap feeling porcelain covered steel - NOT the porcelain cast iron grates on this exact model seen in the stores. We called Weber and they were useless - thankfully, Amazon did right by us but only after an hour long conversation with their call center. Other than that, the other reviews are correct - took me a little over 2hrs to put it together but I don't see this as problem - build quality seems to be good. Just be sure you are ok with the cheaper grates before buying this from Amazon.

This grill is by far the best constructed grill out there. Don't be fooled by the very expensive stainless grills out there. The flavorizer bars and the Cast Iron cooking grates are the key for perfect flavoring of your meat. This little 26,000 BTU grill can heat up very quickly and hold heat very well. Evenly cooks, no matter where you place meat on main cook surface. Slide out grill bottom makes for unbelievable easy cleaning. drip catch pan doesn't tip or move so you don't make a mess on your deck. And I've seen how long these grills last. I haven't had mine long and I'm grilling every day now. FUN,FUN and YUM,YUM! Parts are always available if you need a burner replacement 5-7 years down the road. Much cheaper in the long run than having to replace a whole cheap grill every 3 years.

Just bought this grill.
I assembled it yesterday and used for the first time tonight. Wow. The build quality of this unit is very good. Very sturdy. One of the reasons I bought a Weber is because just about every other grill I checked out uses a cheaper grill material. This one has a super strong iron grill surface. Huge difference from the cheap-o grill I was using before. I cooked burgers and broccoli. (I used a stainless steel vegetable basket I purchased separately) Came out fantastic. I also bought the Weber handle light. Brilliant idea. It throws a beam of light straight down on what you are cooking when you have the lid open. Totally worth having. Way to go Weber. These grills are expensive because they are simply better. (Would have loved to get a Summit Weber, but I'd like to pay my mortgage this month too. : ) )

Perfect Sized Grill for Four,

This review is from: Weber 4411001 Spirit E-210 Propane Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
First, I bought this grill at home depot, so it came with the cast iron grills/grates. If the one you're looking at doesn't have these, stop looking at it, go to home depot, and look at theirs (they should have cast iron grills that come with it, most other stores won't offer this). It shouldn't cost you any extra, and the upgraded parts are worth ~$40.
This is a quality grill, but comes at a higher price than most other large and shiny grills offered at large box stores. To someone who doesn't know better, it looks out-classed by similar priced, fancier, larger, stainless steel grills sold at approximately the same price, or even cheaper. However, it would be a mistake to simply write this grill off because it doesn't look as good. It's a good product made and backed by a good company. It'll last you 10+ years, provide you high and even heat, and replacement parts can be found and installed without much effort. That may not sound like a lot now, but a few years down the road you'll appreciate these qualities. You'll also feel a bit smug when your friend buys his fancy new grill but can't maintain 450 degrees F to put a sear on the steaks (although you may not appreciate the fact that his steaks took longer to cook and came out a bit tough) and he has to buy a new grill in 4 years because his is falling apart and he can't find replacement parts. My biggest concerns regarding this particular model were it's size and the fact that it only had two burners. Both concerns turned out to be non-issues. It's size is enough to cook steaks/chicken/burgers for at least 4 people comfortably (and could easily do 6, although with vegetables the space might start to get tight). If you feel like you'll be cooking for more than 4 regularly, then consider a larger model. Having said that, I can cook 10 burgers at the same time without a problem and have BBQed for 12 without wishing for anymore grill. I think most families would find this size to be more than sufficient, although with all the larger grills out there it might seem under sized at first glance. As for the two burners, I was concerned it might not provide enough heat and I'd be compromising with direct/indirect heat. First, the grill gets up to 500 F easily, and with the cast iron grates, it holds and distributes that heat well. You won't get that out of a cheaper grill (my friend is lucky to keep 350 with his). If I want direct heat, I put the food over a burner, if I want indirect heat, I put it on the top rack. Usually I just cook everything in the middle of the grill with the top shut, and that seems to work pretty good. At high heat, just about everything cooks great at 4 - 5 minutes per side (burgers, chicken, steak, pork, vegetables). Something not to be overlooked is Weber's customer service. When I received my grill, it was damaged (one of the doors were banged up). I just called Weber, sent them a picture of the door, and they had another one at my house in two days. They are known for their customer service, and it's apparent to me that they deserve this reputation. Overall, 6 months later and at least 50 uses in, I'm still happy with my purchase and wouldn't change my purchase (I can hardly ever say that...). My father has one of the older models (12+ years old) and it's still kicking out great food a few times a week. I think he's had to replace the igniter switch and maybe the burners once in all that time. Personally, I think this grill hits the sweet spot between cost and quality for my uses. The only time I would not recommend this grill is if you cook for 5 or more people frequently. It'll do just fine more often than not for 6 people, but if you're doing it all the time, you might appreciate the extra space.

Bought this to replace an ancient Charmglow. The Charmglow was so light-weight it constantly blew over in even a moderate wind - finally causing irreparable harm. So, after much research, off I went to Home Depot to get the Weber. I don't grill out a whole lot but often enough to want something more substantial than another lightweight, cheap grill. The Weber fits that requirement. Two guys from Home Depot loaded the box into my SUV where it sat for a day - the box was too heavy for me to get out by myself. A friend came over and it took us a little over an hour to assemble. Out on the patio, we very easily fired it up to burn off the 'newness'. It heated up very quickly and within a half an hour we had our steaks cooking. Once the steaks were done, we shut it down and had a very good meal. After one use, below are my thoughts:
PROS: Heated evenly Assembly effort and time not too bad Heavy (can't imagine anything but a hurricane will blow this one over!) Well-made - everything fit together easily and as illustrated Very well packed in the box Clean-up after use was easy Perfect quantity of screws and washers Hardware was packaged with the appropriate part Thermometer built in to the lid to eliminate guessing Two burners are perfect for those not feeding a hoard of folks Not much bigger than the deceased Charmglow - meaning the footprint is small enough to not take over the patio 4 wheeels (2 front one lock) - very easy to reposition CONS This thing is very heavy The box is huge The instructions should have shown that the little, black plastic, wing nut thingy was a tool not a left-over part. Personally, I would rather have the controls on the front to free up the table part on the right side |
