1.0 out of 5 stars Weber is cheating!
Weber 4421001 Spirit E-310 LP Gas Grill, Black

In all descriptions, including the Amazon one, it says "Includes porcelain-enameled cast-iron cooking grates". The grill I received had a cheap stamped steel grate of the lowest quality, worse than on the much cheaper grills. When I called, Weber first lied to me that stamped steel is the only option for this...

Got tired of buying inexpensive grills that only lasted a few years. My wife had owned a Weber grill years ago and she thought that they were the "best". She could give a lecture on the pluses that they have.

Since there are only two of us, I found that this was the Weber for us. Not too expensive and small enough to be able to move around.

Amazon shipped it thru CEVA, and they called and delivered it on the time agreed upon. Very professional service.

OK-now for the review of the grill.
Was impressed by the way it was packed. Lots of reinforced cardboard, all the parts were tightly wrapped, and great care was apparent in the effort to prevent scratching or rubbing of parts.

HOWEVER, putting it together was a real pain. It took me about two hours, (by myself). But what I really didn't like was the assembly instructions. THERE WERE NO WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS. The entire assembly instruction sheet was a series of photos. Found it very tiring. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I like the "put section A together with 1 inch bolts etc). I was beginning to wonder if Weber made these instructions for people that can't read.

I was impressed with the way the parts fit together. Nothing sloppy and all of the holes lined up. Everything seemed to be of exceptional quality. Heavy lid and box.

Fired it up after assembly and it hit 600 degrees in about 5 minutes. Perfect blue flame in all burners, and although the top got extremely hot, the side trays remained cool. Nice and even heat all throughout the box, with sensitive flame adjustment throughout the entire range of the individual knobs.

I liked the idea of being able to buy various parts for replacement. The warranty is a generous one, and seems to be an indication of the quality of their product. Although this grill is a little pricey, it should last years with proper cleaning and maint. Did I mention what a great price it was?

Good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love My Grill!!! No Hot Spots, Just Great Cooking!, July 13, 2009

I bought this grill based on the reviews here and from friends recommendations about the Weber brand. This is my very first grill I've ever owned personally...and oh my gosh, I'm in heaven! (and so is my wife!)

From the moment it showed up (Amazon, you guy's ship stuff awesome! Even the Cevia delivery guy was cool!) I was thrilled.

Build Quality:
While it does take a while to put together, I was extremely impressed with the build quality throughout. Stainless steel fittings, oversize bolts, well built panels, even the doors are double-lined metal!

It came with everything I needed to get set up and went together without a hitch. Even the kids were impressed with it!

Ease Of Use:
My gosh, if grilling is this easy, I should've gotten into it years ago!
Just turn on the gas, turn on the burners, light, walk away for a while, come back & throw the food on and cook away!

Instead of feeling like you're cooking over a flame with a bunch of hot spots, it feels a lot like cooking on a gas range. The heat is incredibly even and flare ups are really rare. The taste it gives food is nothing short of miraculous!

Incredible Taste!
This probably isn't unique to this grill, but the taste that this thing infuses into food is nothing short of amazing! We've found ourselves grilling all sorts of things (veggies, pork, chicken, burgers, hot dogs, steak, etc) because of how incredible the taste is!

Really Quiet!
One thing that really struck me about this grill was how quiet it is when it's running. While this is my first grill I've personally owned, I've grown up with BBQ's my whole life & cooked on several others and I've NEVER seen a grill this quiet when it's going.

I don't know what kind of magic Weber has done, but it's practically silent when it's running. Not that normal gas sounding "Whoosh! SHHHHHHHHHHHHhhh" that you normally hear when you fire up other grills. I have to look down into it to see that the fires going just to be sure because it's so quiet! I love it!

Heats Up Fast!
Everything I've read say's these things heat up really fast. Well, I'm here to say that they're dead on. Within 5 minutes of firing it up, it's up to 600 deg. F and ready to cook on! Talk about fast grilling!

We've had the grill now for a couple months and are using it multiple times a week. My wife actually prefers to cook on it vs our stove inside the house now! Looks like I'll be stocking up on propane.

I Love The Flavorizer Bars!
Those flavorizer bars have got to be the coolest thing on that grill! I'd read where it keeps the flare ups from happening and that they help season the food too. Yep! It's all true! We had some really oily London Broils that we'd marinated the other day that we threw on the grill & I was curious to see how they'd do (they were literally DRIPPING with oil).

They fired up a little, but the flames quickly subsided and never got really high. So, being curious, I dumped a bunch of the marinade on them just to see how well the grill would do at "flaming up". I can report that it did an awesome job! Yep! It'd flame alright, but it never got out of control and the flames subsided very quickly and were well under control.

I've also noticed that as the grease drips down onto the flavorizer bars it really does "sizzle" and smoke like they say and it gives the food a really nice flavor. I guess because it smokes the grease instead of burning it, you get a much better flavor in the meats.

I was impressed!

Versatile:
We probably have a unique use for this thing...once we got it up & running we decided to open a brand new dutch oven that we'd had for a couple years. Part of getting a dutch oven includes "seasoning" it.

I'm proud to announce that not only is my Weber Grill great at cooking food, it seasoned that dutch oven incredibly well!

We're finding new uses for it now all the time and absolutely love the thing!

Weber, you've got a fan in me!

Heat up quickly and cook evenly, what more can you ask for? The only thing that would make this a better grill is if the control knobs were on the front of the grill which would provide more shelf space. The grill is fairly easy to put together, it only took me by myself an hour of time from unboxing to grilling! I grill 2 to 3 times a week and just love how the Porcelain-Enameled Cooking Grates makes cleanup a snap.

...and this grill certainly delivers!

The grill was delivered free through Ceva, they called to set up a drop off time and were right on, very professional.

Putting the grill together was enjoyable, the illustrated instructions made it very easy. The finished product is very well put together, for Weber's entry line. Some of the finishes and touches you would find on the higher end models are missing here, but the grill delivers just like the big guys.

The burners come to life instantly and deliver a good consistent and even heat. The electric ignition is a very nice touch, but make sure to inspect it occasionally because overtime moister can get in there.

I bought this grill after doing over a month of research, visiting home improvement stores and talking to grill owners. I found that this is the best bang for your buck. I have talked to multiple people who have had their Weber since the 90's and have had nothing but good things to say about them. I would highly encourage anyone looking for an entry level grill to seriously consider this grill, after all, by the time you add up how much you would spend on multiple grills to match the longevity of this grill, you would have spent way more then what the Weber costs.

Happy grillin!

The grill I received had a cheap stamped steel grate of the lowest quality, worse than on the much cheaper grills. When I called, Weber first lied to me that stamped steel is the only option for this model. After three calls they admitted that there is cast iron option (the same model and the same price), but for supplied to "Home Depot" grills only. They refused to replace the grate and told me that this is my problem and I should be more careful in what I order.
Can you trust Weber and their warranty after that?

Amazon did take the grill back with the full refund.

This grill does need to be assembled but contrary to what the instructions said I was able to do this myself. There is one step where you need to lift a large piece into place. It would be helpful to use 2 people but I was too impatient and carefully did it myself.

The grill is very easy to start up. The castors are smooth and do keep it in one place when locked down. The aluminum side surfaces do heat up a little during grilling but not so hot that you would burn yourself. The sides have handy hooks for your tools to hang from.

I have been using the grill almost everyday since I put it together. It really makes is so much easier to cook dinner (and lunch too). The clean-up is a piece of cake! No pots or pans to wash, just a spatula! The surface I clean with the recommended brass bristle brush after it has been heated up for the next meal to be cooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars After 20 yrs of cheap grills, this is so great., September 21, 2009

This review is from: Weber 4421001 Spirit E-310 LP Gas Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
I could have gotten many more buzzers, bells and whistles for the same money or even less, but I have put up with cheap grills for too long. Between replacing parts every year, fighting fires every time I grilled and dealing with uneven heat, I finally had enough and splurged on a good grill.
I could tell while I was assembling it that it was 10 times sturdier than my old Char-broil. The first time I cooked Chicken on it, I did it exactly the way the cooking guide that came with it said. Six minutes each side on medium direct heat. I never even checked on it, I just put them on flipped them after 6 min. Then 6 min later checked the temp, and they were perfect. My old grill they would have been charcoal on one side and raw on the other.
I did get the porcelain coated cast iron grates. I would definitely recommend that upgrade. They came with the grill at Home Depot for the same price as the cheap ones that came from Wal-Mart. Be sure to make sure you are getting the good grates before purchasing.
Like I said this is a basic grill, no side burner, or infra red heat. But I hardly ever used the side burner on my last grill; I think I can sacrifice extras for a good basic grill. I love it.
I got the cover through Amazon for $10-$20 less than anywhere else. It is a Weber brand cover and it too is 10 times tougher than any cover I have had before

5.0 out of 5 stars Great grill...not hard to assemble, September 16, 2009

This review is from: Weber 4421001 Spirit E-310 LP Gas Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
I purchased this grill after a lot of research and the mistake of not buying a weber grill several years ago.

Only used a few times so far but I am perfectly satisfied.

Wanted to disagree with a few of the posters on the assembly. I am a tool guy and consider myself a bit better than an amatuer mechanic, but this grill was a snap to put together.

There is one step (lifting the grill chamber into position) that is a two person must. Other than that, it took me about one hour (with a 4 yr old "helper") to assemble this grill, and there were no issues. I did not use the enclosed "tools" that came with the grill as I used my own socket set, but I see no reason why they would not have worked, just a tad slower on tightening bolts.

I did not find the pictures directions hard to follow, in fact I found them a bit easier than some of the descriptive text instructions I have followed in the past.

Buy this grill (especially with free ship from amazon) and you will not be dissappointed

This is a great Grill, Amazon shipped it for free using CEVA, arrived ontime and undammaged. It took about an hour to put the grill together which wasn't too bad. This is absolutely the best grill I've owned yet and grills very evenly. This was my first Weber Grill and should last a long time if taken care of.

5.0 out of 5 stars Assembly not the easiest, but fantastic grill., June 21, 2010
By
This review is from: Weber 4421001 Spirit E-310 LP Gas Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
I recently picked the Weber Spirit e-310 up at Lowes. I debated between it and the Genesis e-310 for quite a while but decided the spirit suited my needs.

It came with free assembly, but that would have taken 3 days so I opted to do it myself. Not an awful experience, but not the easiest. The instructions were all line drawings of the parts and were generally pretty clear. The confusion came when the instructions have zoomed in sections of some assembly part(s). They have 3-4 of these in a single step showing several different ways that the assembly could be done, and all of them are wrong except one. It is left for you to decide what the difference is between the close up images and make sure you do it correctly. The problem is, in some pictures it is really pretty tough. I think it took ~1.5 hours in really hot weather, so obviously not a deal breaker, but perhaps a warning to some.

On to the actual grill construction and function. My old gas grill was a bbq grillware which is the lowes "house" brand. I think it was ~$225 several years ago. The build quality between the cheaper grill and the weber is amazing. The most telling detail, and the one that I think makes the difference for longevity, are the brackets that hold up the burners and flavorizer bars. On the cheaper grill, the bottom portion of the grill is formed porcelain coated steel with brackets screwed into the steel. These brackets after 4 years were completely rusted out and it was falling apart on the inside. The burners were in good shape, they were just falling down and wouldn't stay in place and the flavorizer bars were laying on top of them. The weber grill body is a solid cast construction with no brackets welded or screwed into it to hold things up. The brackets are cast into the body and things rest directly on them and are secured with a single screw. There is no way for brackets to rust out since they are part of the construction, so when the burners do eventually die, you should be able to swap things out (obviously, I haven't tested this, but it is a much smarter design).

The biggest knock on this grill on various websites is a lack of BTU's. This argument convinced me only until I remembered that the BTU's should be measured in BTU per square inch of primary grilling surface (the secondary is a shelf and is irrelevant). Ideally, it would be per cubic inch, but that info is not provided, and I'm too lazy to measure it so we resort to BTU per square inch of surface. This grill has 36,000 BTU and 424sq inches of primary grilling space. That comes to 84.9 BTU/square inch. The genesis E310 has 42,000 BTU and 507sq inch primary grilling surface. That comes to 82.8 BTU/sq inch. The spirit has moderately, though insignificantly, more BTU per square inch. In the heat test, I cranked the gas up and in ~ 10 minutes was slightly over 625 degrees. Should be plenty for everything I've ever used.

Some may complain about the lack of cast iron grates, but I found that those tend to chip the porcelain off if you are not careful with cleaning and then they rust. My old ones did anyway. All in all, it is a very nice grill if you want to save ~$150 off the genesis series. It has the same warranty, though it doesn't quite look as polished as the genesis.

The only downside is once we put it together, we left for the weekend and all I was able to cook on it the first weekend was a hotdog. But let me tell you, when you drop a hotdog on a 625 degree grill, it dances around the grates trying to jump off.
