Looking for a better grill brush? Keep looking...,
By
This review is from: Weber 6424 21-Inch T-Brush (Lawn & Patio)
I thought this would solve all my problems. The traditional brushes seem to "waste" a lot of their surface area in that the bristles on the leading edge get squashed down pretty quickly and you end up using the wood (or in some cases) plastic to smear things around. This looked like it would not have that problem. But the bristle density leaves a lot to be desired and they tend to get squashed very easily. I don't think this is any better, or in fairness, any worse than the traditional design. I do find that I miss the metal scraper part that is found on traditional brushes, especially if it has the little cut out on the side to scrape each individual "rung" of the grate. So I'll keep using this until it doesn't work but I doubt I'll get another after that.

Been 4 season grilling for more than 25 years and I find this brush to be the longest lasting and most versatile...........Use it on vermont castings grill with porcelain coated grills........ Just bought a second one after having the previous one for almost two years.........

Not made with brass anymore!,

Didn't actually use the brush as when it arrived it had steel bristles and not brass (which is what I was looking for). Contacted Weber and they confirmed they switched over from brass to steel on this item so if you are looking specifically for a brass bristles brush, beware.

Weber grills recommend brass bristles for cleaning the grates. This brush is supposed to have brass bristles (see picture), but ALL my brushes came with stainless bristles. BIG hassle! Very frustrated that I had to send ALL this stuff back. It bothers me when something is advertised one way and they send you something different.

Good brush but not a great brush,

I liked the length of the brush and the toughness of the bristles. I just did not think it does as good of job cleaning the grates on either my Weber Kettle grills or my gas grill with porcelain covered cast iron grates as a traditional Weber grill brush does. I think the problem may be that it does not have as much surface area as a traditional brush.

The bristles are far stiffer than those provided on the various brass brushes we've used in the past. They cut straight through the grease and burnt on food. They have also remained straight, unlike the brass bristles on the other brushes we've tried, prolonging the effective life of the brush. The spiral pattern of the bristles on the head makes cleaning between the bars extremely easy. You're basically cleaning 3 sides of the bars at once. The head of the brush is also fairly broad, every stroke covers a fairly large area. If ours ever wears out we'll buy another without hesitation.

We have bought several versions of this brush, and Webers bristles are much stronger and sturdy and longer. The bristles don't fall out. Good brush.

Great Grill Brush,

I've used one of these for years. I purchased mine elsewhere, but it is the exact same brush. I love that you can get leverage for the tougher, stuck on meat. It is wide enough to do a wide swath at one time. I also turn it sideways to get between the grill bars. It's held up like a dream. The brass bristles don't scratch the grill or rust. Last Christmas we were given an electric grill brush, which is cute but really doesn't get the job done. I'm glad we kept the old one. I guess there's something to be said for old fashioned elbow grease! When & if this one wears out, I'll buy an exact replacement if possible.

A regular rectangle-head brush doesn't get all of the gook on the grill top and sides of the stainless steel wires. However, the regular brush in conjunction with this one, does a much better job. It also seems that this brush does not wear away as fast as my rectangles. I'm guessing that the wires are built of metals that can stand the heat better. So my recommendation is to keep the brush you have now - replacing it as needed - and add one of these to your tool set. (For the record I'm using a natural gas Weber so the the heat and gunk characteristics of my grill and the usefulness of this brush may depend on that.) Happy grilling!

Stainless Steel Now, But Won't Scratch Porcelain-enamel,
By Tom (Denver, CO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Weber 6424 21-Inch T-Brush (Lawn & Patio)
So you probably read that your porcelain-enameled cast iron cooking grates need a brass brush to avoid damaging the enamel. Well I emailed Weber because they no longer sell the brass version and they said that their stainless steel brush will not scratch the enamel either.
This brush is really nice for getting in between the grates with minimal leverage force needed to scrape off the charred bits. Just be sure to buy this one if you have a Weber grill so you avoid any nightmare scenario of a 3rd party brush ruining your cooking grates. |
