Amazon.com Review

Legendary Weber quality, tons of thoughtful features, and built-to-last stainless steel construction make this propane-fueled gas grill a solid choice for years of pure grilling pleasure. Three high-grade stainless steel burners run the length of the durable, thick-walled cast-aluminum cookbox, inputting a powerful 36,000 BTU per hour and producing exceptionally even heat without hot or cold spots. Each burner is individually controlled to enable either direct or indirect cooking, while the infinite control valves allow exceptionally precise temperature control. 611 inches of total cooking area provide enough room to cook for even large parties and include a convenient warming rack, to keep already-cooked foods warm or toast hamburger buns, and a warm-up basket, to cook easily burned foods like fish or vegetables and to provide more warming space. Weber's Crossover ignition system makes starting the grill easier than ever, lighting all three burners in succession with just the push of a button. The Platinum model also features a stainless steel frame for the ultimate in strength and durability.

Like all Weber gas grills, the Genesis Platinum B features heavy-duty stainless steel Flavorizer bars to eliminate the flare-ups caused by lava rocks and ceramic briquettes; fats and juices hit the angled bars and sizzle away, adding delicious, smoky barbecue flavor instead of flames. A slide-out bottom tray funnels grease away from the burners and into a removable catch pan for quick and painless clean-up. The grill includes a roomy storage area with solid steel bottom shelf, while two swing-up work surfaces with removable, easy-to-clean stainless inserts offer plenty of space to spread out sauces, marinades, utensils and other prep essentials. Both surfaces are made from granite-look Thermoset for maximum durability and heat resistance, and they feature four sturdy hooks to keep favorite barbecue tools close to hand. The double-walled stainless steel hood adds a layer of insulation to trap heat and protect from discoloring.

Thoughtful add-ons and extra features elevate this grill above similarly priced models. A built-in thermometer monitors the temperature inside the grill for precise cooking. Rugged, weather-resistant wheels are crack-proof in the most extreme temperatures and allow easy transport, while locking casters prevent the grill from rolling during cooking. The porcelain-on-steel control panel includes a meat temperature chart on the enameled surface for easy reference, and all three burners have screens to keep spiders from spinning combustible webs inside. Best of all, ten fasteners are all that's needed to put this grill together, meaning you'll go from box to barbecue in less than 40 minutes. The Genesis Platinum B measures 63 inches high by 65 inches wide by 30 inches deep. Made in the USA, it's backed by a limited lifetime warranty. --Mary Park

Product Description

When we launched the Genesis gas grill line back in 1985, we launched more than a new line of grills- we launched a grilling revolution. The Genesis line changed the way gas grills work with a new and innovative cooking system that stopped flare-ups and created even heat without messy lava rocks. Our system was so good, it wasn't long before other brands tried to replicate it. Close, but no cigar. Weber's cooking system is still the best on the market, and here's why: Burneres made of high-grade stainless steel run the length of the cookbox, providing even heat accross the grill. --Flavorizer bars completely cover the burners, no holes or cutouts. They are precisely angled to generate heat and facilitate run off of juices that aren't vaporized. --A drip system for directing grease away from the burners. Drippings are channeled into a funnel shaped bottom tray under the burners and collect in a large drip pan. Both the funnel-shaped tray and the drip pan are easy to remove from the front of the grill. --At least two or more individually controlled burners for cooking direct or indirect. Burners have infinite control valves so you can fine tune the temperature. Genesis Platinum gas grills include two model types--B and C. Platinum B models have three burners, and Platinum C models have three burners and a 12,000 BTU-per-hour input side burner. Both models feature stainless steel frames, fully enclosed cart with stainless steel doors and handles, stainless steel cooking grates, stainless steel flavorizer bars, thermoset work surfaces with stainless steel inserts, Crossover ignition system, solid robot-welded carts, built in thermometer, and a double-walled construction stainless steel hood that adds a layer of insulation to trap heat and protect the stainless steel hood from discoloring. All natural gas models include a 12 ft. flexible hose. All models also feature a limited lifetime warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, October 2, 2005
This review is from: Weber 6770001 Genesis Platinum B Propane, Stainless Steel (Lawn & Patio)
I've been searching opinions on Amazon and other sites for some time and finally decided to spring for the Weber. My old grill was prone to flare-ups and uneven heating - so bad that I had to flip the chicken every 5 minutes, and sometime ended up finishing it in the oven so the skin was not totally blackened. Cleaning the enamel coated grates was also a big pain. They didn't rust, but were prone to sticking. The wood side shelves were in horrible condition, one wooden handle had fallen off, and the grill had a considerable amount of rust on the frame.

I pretty much settled on Weber due to the reputation for even heat, the Genesis B model for the size, and figured the few extra dollars for the stainless steel frame were worth it. The stainless steel grates were not negotiable, which meant that the Silver B was not a candidate.

The Genesis Platinum B is everything I had hoped for. I'd have preferred assembly instructions with a little more text, and one of the side frames was labeled incorrectly, causing me to have to re-do a step in the assembly. The grill looks great and cooks better. Kabobs come out tender with minimal flare-up, despite the oily marinade. It's pricy, but I'll use it more often because I don't have to constantly turn the food anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars My second Webber grill, July 22, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Weber 6770001 Genesis Platinum B Propane, Stainless Steel (Lawn & Patio)
In 1993 I bought my first Webber gas grill. When we moved last year to Arizona we finally scrapped the grill after 12 years. The only parts that we ever had to replace were the flavorizer bars, because they were made of steel. Unlike the new grill where everything is stainless steel, except the sides, and rear back panel of the grill base. The new grill has an insulated stainless steel hood which seems to require a lower setting on the burners to cook with. Last year (2005) I bought a grill from a local Sears store cause it was on sale for half the price of my new Webber. After a year of problems with the grill running out of propane with the tank half full, and dripping grease all over the ground at each corner of the grill, I realized that you get what you pay for. I then started looking at another Webber grill, and chose the Genesis Platinum B. Other than the directions which I feel could use more text along with illustrations which caused me snap 2 fastener bolts in the legs that I had to drill out (my fault for not looking at the illustrations more closely) I am more than pleased with this grill. We have been able to cook shish ke-bobs, baby back pork ribs, turkey breast and have them come out very juicy with only 1 burner going at about 1/2 setting. Again I am happy to have a Webber grill again. As far as Webber's cutomer service goes I had to order some regulator knobs for my old grill and Webber sent them to me at no charge even though I told the service rep that the knobs were stolen off the grill and not broken. They still replaced them for me. It is customer service like this that more companies need today.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fire bomb, April 29, 2009
This review is from: Weber 6770001 Genesis Platinum B Propane, Stainless Steel (Lawn & Patio)
We must have a "lemon", but while this grill looks great, functionality as a grill, you know, for cooking things, it's terrible. I've stood over the grill twice with fire extinguisher in hand while watching black smoke pour out of all sides and the temp gauge needle pegged. Basically the grill works great as long as you don't use the center burner - which for most cooking makes sense (i.e. indirect heat), but if you want to sear or even cook with the center burner on low, your food will be tossed to the center of an inferno. I've called Weber and been working with their reps for what seems like is forever and is going on 3 years. We've changed the manifold twice, the regulator once, cleaned out the burner tubes, etc., etc., etc. The last technician knew what he was doing - he was a gas expert, but still when i toss a few brats on the grill, leave the center on low to give a little direct heat - fire! No, this is not user error, I've been grilling for 20+ years and this is our second Weber. The first one was great, they are normally worth the extra money, but I can't say this grill is worth the cash and am not happy with Weber's inability to fix the grill or simply offer a replacement at this point...
