4.0 out of 5 stars Great grill despite the design flaw, July 12, 2010
This review is from: Weber 7470001 Summit S-670 Natural Gas Grill, Stainless Steel (Lawn & Patio)
If you read all of the reviews you will have noted the water leak problem. I figured it was worth the purchase even with the design flaw because the grill has great features for the price. I researched solutions for the leaking and then emailed support to ask them for advice. I was surprised when they offered a cover but recommended not to install flashing because "they don't know how it will effect grilling". They have known about the leakage for more than 3 years. With $2,000 grills you think they might explore some solutions other than a cover. People who spend this much on a grill are likely to be the same people who are willing to grill in the rain.

Anyhow, I bought some flashing and some high temp flu tape (highest rated) and flashed the 1" gap between the grill and the cart. Even with this mod, set up was quick and no problems except for the quick connect on the side burner. It just won't snap in for me. No bother, I didn't buy the grill to use the side burner.

No problem with grilling at all. It heats up very quickly and the sear section is incredible. I love the smoke box. It takes a while to get the timing down on the smoker. I have been using the grill for a while now and have no regrets at all. Lights up perfectly, heats well, and easy to clean. The only problem is cleaning the grill with hairy arms. They look like I have a perm. Perhaps time for a longer handle on my brush.

My wife and I had been without a gas grill for about 18 months, since we trashed our old grill after it rotted out from the inside. After looking over grill reviews we decided the Weber Summit S-670 was the best bang for the money. Sure, it's over $2000, but the features and size make it more useful to us than a smaller grill (including the Genesis line), and far more cost-effective than the "professional" grills. The key is the ability to control heat, and the Weber allows you to do that with very fine control. With the sear burner, we've done steaks and chops that have a pleasant outside crust, but are still rare to medium-rare in the middle. We made a boneless leg of lamb using the indirect method, and the grill held 400 degrees steady for the entire time we were cooking. We even tossed in some baked potatoes that came out perfect.

Two minor quibbles that prevent me from making this a 5-star review:

1) We received a defective quick-connect fitting (no inner O-ring) for our gas line. Had to wait about 10 days for Weber to ship a replacement which they did for free.
2) The gas, thermocouple and igniter lines for the rotisserie burner are exposed. While they appear to be weatherproof, they make the grill look a little unfinished.

When you buy this grill, spend the money on the cover. We are going to enjoy using this grill for a very, very long time!

I look long and hard before settling on this BBQ, comparing high end bbq with this one.
The features and value you get from this BBQ is superb. Installation was very straight forward and legible and intelligible instructions. I love the searing feature. The meat comes out fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars If the Pope owned a grill, it'd be this one ..., January 3, 2012

My beautiful wife gave me an S-670 and I've been loving it. For me, this was an upgrade from two decades of grilling on charcoal in Weber kettles. Obviously, this grill has every bell and every whistle under the sun. The Weber quality is apparent; the unit is sturdy and well-thought-out. She didn't get mine from Amazon, as it could be had cheaper elsewhere. But, assuming that they all ship in the same box and arrive in the same condition, my experience should be relevant.

The unit arrived on a pallet, in a large, sturdy box (which was later converted into a playhouse/ice-cream-shop for my kids). You'll need help getting the unit off of the pallet and out of the packing crate. The "wings" need to be attached and the drip pan assembly inside the cabinet needs to be assembled. You'll, also, have to put together the handle lights and the battery assembly for the burner knob lights. Batteries were included for both. In all, I think it took me about 45 minutes to unbox and assemble the unit. You'll need a 1/2" connection to your gas line, as the quick disconnect attachment is rather large (my line was 3/8" - local big-box store had the necessary parts to make a connection adapter).

Once assembled, it's, pretty much, connect to the gas line and get cookin'. The unit comes with two of the disposable drip pans and, of course, the rotisserie spit and forks.

I was, literally, stunned at the weight of the grill grates. They are SOLID. There are three - two larger ones and one smaller one that goes near the smoke box. The larger ones probably weigh near 20 lbs, each. They're very heavy and, once heated, they make fantastic grill marks.

Since I've gotten the unit, I've grilled chicken, fish and steaks. I've done a pork loin and a 16lb sirloin on the rotisserie. I've roasted potatoes and corn, grilled zucchini, and made fried rice on the side burner. This grill is AMAZING. The controls are very precise and let me dial in and maintain temperatures in nearly any configuration of burners for very long periods of time (the sirloin cooked for about 6 hours) or heat things up very, very quickly.

The only complaint that I have is that, with an integral rotisserie and instructions that talk of removing the grates when using the rotisserie, there should be a place to put the grates, when you take them out. I've ordered some S-hooks and am going to try and see if I can work out something on some of the cabinet vents. It's really not a big deal, but it wouldn't have been hard for Weber to tackle that, either.

Lastly, I also have the cover and recommend it, as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best, November 20, 2011

This review is from: Weber 7470001 Summit S-670 Natural Gas Grill, Stainless Steel (Lawn & Patio)
If you want a gas grill that does it all, the Summit 670 is it. Be sure you get the 670 version 7370001 (propane, the one I bought) or 7470001 (natural gas), which apparently has addressed earlier design issues noted in some reviews & improved the gas conduction system. We've been using ours for several months & found no rain leakage issues (A Weber cover is used when not in service for longer periods).

The construction & materials qualities are first-rate; it's clearly built to last. Performance is superb, especially the rotisserie (very short cord, but you can re-wire it if you are electrically-competent). There's lots of storage space in the lower cabinet. At first I thought the lighted controls to be just a gimmick, but they are really very functional when night grilling. The two handle-mounted LED arrays are also quite useful at night, and their spectral balance is just right: they give a "daylight" illumination appearance to the food. The propane tank level is measured with a weighing system that displays the fill status on an LED display... very useful!

The grill thermometer max is 750 F, and indeed this grill can reach very high temperatures very rapidly. However, the ability to control how the food is grilling is excellent.

The only tiny criticism I'd offer concerns the nice-looking tool hooks that are on the front, 3 on both left & right; slipping a grill cover on invariably causes the tools to drop off. But this is truly a minor point.

If year-round grilling is your passion, you can't go wrong with this model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Weber review, November 4, 2011

This review is from: Weber 7470001 Summit S-670 Natural Gas Grill, Stainless Steel (Lawn & Patio)
I had a Weber grill before this one. It lasted 12 years with heavy use. Still works, just wanted something new.

This Weber Summit has been great! I used it to make rotissery chickens for a party and they turned out perfect. It's been a great grill. I have cooked a lot with it and the heat is spreadout evenly throughout the grilling surface. Everything works as described.

The 'searing station' works great. Hamburgers no longer shrink into hockey pucks, they get the juices sealed in. Steaks are done just right, but you have to watch them or they will burn. Fish cooks well on the cast iron flat pan purchased with this.

If you need high heat for specific types of meat, the searing station is perfect. It's hot, very hot, but doesn't start a huge fire underneath. Had that problem with my other Weber. It would turn into a huge fire and burn everything on the grill. I would recomend the Weber grill glove for this grill. It does get hot!

I can't see going to any other brand. This is simply the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best grill ever, June 15, 2011

This is the best grillI have ever owned (and there were many). It is extremely well built, and the quality of construction is very apparent. It lights instantly and without any hassel.
The packing was excellent, but quite a project to get it undone. You need three people to get the grill off its pallet. after that its a breeze to put it together. Ilike the idea that you can repair and replace the burners very easily when needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Grill., July 12, 2011
This review is from: Weber 7470001 Summit S-670 Natural Gas Grill, Stainless Steel (Lawn & Patio)
I spent many hours doing research prior to purchasing the S-670. My old grill was rotted out and in need of replacement. I bbq year round and it certainly gets its share of use. I decided on the S-670 and have been extremely happy with it. In many reviews you will read about a design flaw if left uncovered in the rain and that is a fact. I keep it covered when not in use, and have never had any issues. Aside from that one problem, the grill is a pleasure to use. The rotisserie and smoker box with their own burners are wonderful additions. One of my favorite things to do on it is pizza. Order the Weber pizza stone with it and the results are fantastic. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Just be prepared when the package comes. It is big. The box was around 4 feet tall, 5 feet wide and was around 300 lbs. Assembly was also easy.
