Weber 7542 Cast Iron Griddle

I use this on a Summit Gold 6 burner grill. With the side burner, the regular section of the grill, and this griddle I can cook almost anything outside. Cast iron gets hot and retains the heat. I was considering Mario Batali's piastra, but this has a larger cooking area and I think will be more durable. Too bad it didn't come seasoned.

This #7542 Weber Griddle is described (above) as being 20.2 X 14.6 inches. When mine arrived it was actually 17.25 X 11.75. The Weber packaging showed it to be the #7542 and other web sites give the dimensions as per what I received. Amazon needs to correct the product description.

I ordered this item per the Amazon description and now have to return it because it is too small for my grill application.

After following the simple instructions to "season" the griddle I have made some of the tastiest vegetables, sausage, eggs, bacons, pancakes, pizzas and more. The griddle concept adds a bit of extra work to clean up because you CAN'T just leave it on your grill...but people have raved about what I've put together. Try buying the book "Serious Barbeque" for some great recipes that need a griddle. YUMMY!

Update as of 2/22/11 - I have continued to use this griddle to make amazing breakfasts for my family - even in the winter in Boston...Also the other night I made some sausage/peper/onion grinders that reminded everyone of the ones you can get at the fair. I will say that it is still a pain in the backside that you can't just leave it in the grill, but it does a great job of added another dimension to having a grill.

This griddle is wonderful. It features a smooth side for pancakes which works well and a ribbed side for bacon. I am very pleased with this griddle. Since it is cast iron it takes a little longer to heat up but once it does, it's great. Also, it is easy to clean.

This griddle fits the Silver B exactly and is heavy cast iron. Takes a bit to heat up, but when it does, keep an eye on it as it is hot! Best to keep the rear burner on low so you can have a cooler zone to move foods to.

The flat side of the griddle had a factory defect. There was a shiny depression. A spatula cannot get under the food in this quarter size area.

I love Weber.. Their customer service is absolutely fabulous. The inside cover of my Weber Genesis Gold C was rusting, and they just sent a new cover, free of charge!! That is AWESOME!

So back to this item. The number one thing I cook on my grill are steaks. What I usually do is I put a cast iron pan on my grill, crank all the burners up on high (600+ degrees). I season my steaks (kosher salt and pepper), and leave it out for 30 or so minutes). Two minutes on each side in the cast iron pan, and then move it to the grates for the remainder.. I got tired of dealing with that pan, and just wanted something that stays in the grill. This fits my grill perfectly. You have to season it initially, but its been great! Everything I have hoped for! :)

I bought this for my Summit 650 and it does NOT fit. I called Weber and they listed it wrong. Now I'm stuck with it. This isn't Amazon's fault. Otherwise the griddle is solid, flat, and has two sides for cooking.

I picked this up to be able to cook breakfast on my grill and the occassional fish that I don't want grill marks on. The griddle fits perfect in my grill and looks like it came with it. My only complaint, other then the price, is I wish it had a bit more slope to it, the greese from cooking doesn't quite drain as well as I'd like. If you want another cooking surface besides what the Weber comes with, you can't go wrong with this.

We use this to grill vegetables or to make pancakes on the BBQ! It works amazing and fits our BBQ perfectly! We love it and have been using it for a few months with no issues! Just a tip: Make sure to season it well or the first few times you use it your food will stick.
