5.0 out of 5 stars Roast or Turkey?, December 10, 2000

This review is from: Weber 9501 Roast Holder (Lawn & Patio)
This may be called a roast holder but you've missed out until you have used one to cook a turkey. You can cook up to a 14 lb. turkey easily in a 22-1/2 inch grill using this rack. I cooked my first turkey in a Weber 21 years ago and have cooked at least two every year since. There is no comparison if you want a moist tasty turkey. My family would mutiny if I tried to cook a turkey any other way and my wife loves to have her oven available to fix the rest of the holiday dinner. Maybe one day I'll try cook a roast but I wouldn't trade this rack for any other way to cook a turkey.

We not only use this for roasts. We cradle chicken, turkey, and pork rolls for cooking also. We have been pleased so far. The nickel-plated steel rack cleans easily too.

Not only is this holder very well constructed of very heavy gauge material, it's large enough and strong enough to hold a 20 lb or larger turkey without flexing or breaking.

Don't be fooled by the picture because it's a large 15.5 by 10.5 inches and 6 inches tall. It's something every BBQ chef should have although it would also be useful in an oven if a person wanted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, May 18, 2004

Received this rack last week and used it for the first time over the weekend. As promised, this is huge. I sprayed it with
Pam for ease in cleaning. We cooked a boneless roast pork
and used this rack. It was so moist! Clean-up was a breeze as well but as stated above I used Pam. This is a great gadget. Can't wait to try a turkey. 5 Stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, July 19, 2006

I've only used my rack for cooking chickens, but I'm looking forward to doing a turkey soon. I've never sprayed the rack with non-stick cooking spray, there's no need to. Everything comes off, and it cleans up beautifully in the dishwasher. I like the fact that I can put the chicken on the rack way before I put it on the grill - the rack makes it easy to get the chicken back into the house, too. I typically put the rack and cooked chicken on a cookie sheet, and carve the chicken right on the rack. Well made, tons of uses, yet inexpensive. Does it get any better?

5.0 out of 5 stars Does not fit Q100 and Q200 - per print on box., September 12, 2007

Ordered it for my Q200. The Amazon small print information says it fits all gas grills. The box states it does not fit Go Anywhere, Q100 or Q200 series. That said, I placed it in my Q200 and the cover closes fine. Have not used it yet. For the price, I will keep it and use it in my oven roaster if it doesn't work properly in my Q200. It appears to be a nice item. I wanted to post this early review for Q100/Q200 buyers.I will update when I use it.

Update: Just used the rack for chicken breast and drumsticks. Worked fine. You do lose the searing effect of the grill's cast iron grates since the food items are on the stainless steel rack. Chicken was not as dark, tasted just as good, but a little different without the searing marks. Fits perfectly inside generic disposable roasting pans-catches grease. I'll try small whole chicken next. A++ for the rack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well for chicken, September 23, 2009

I bought this for use with a non-weber, gas fired grill. For the illustrations, it shows a standard Weber round cooking grid, and the feet fit well in a cross fashion. But my grill has the grids going the same direction as the feet. Luckily the mounting legs work OK with my grill area - on some models I think this might slip through, but it rested fine on my grid.

My grill has the fire pretty close to the grid, so I have to be careful not to "blacken" the meats! I roasted two 5 lb chickens in the one rack. My method is to put two layers of aluminum foil on the grill, bend up the edges (to keep the grease from hitting the fire), and then put the rack with chickens on the foil, using medium heat. Cook for 1 hour and then flip the chickens over. Cook one more hour and the chicken tastes great!

The rack worked very well, and cleaned up easily, although I had to use a small brush to get in the various small areas around the feet and in the cracks, etc.

The rack appears large enough to cook a small turkey, and also suitable for a roast beef.

I definitely recommend this rack, although you should check your grill cooking grid to be sure that the feet will work.

This is not a complicated device. I put it on the grill set up for Indirect heat, put the roast on it, covered the grill and waited 45 minutes and the roast was cooked perfectly (medium/medium-rare) and was delicious. Who could ask for more?
