Quick, Easy, But Loud, May 29, 2006
This review is from: Weber 27000 Flame Outdoor Liquid Propane Gas Fireplace (Lawn & Patio)
I love sitting outside by the fire and the Flame makes that quick and easy. I've done the fire pit thing, only to be exhausted by the time a fire was actually burning. The Flame is just a click away from a beautiful fire. All required parts are included. The logs are fairly realistic looking and create a nice looking fire.
Two complaints - fairly major flaws. 1. The wheels are very small and I would not consider, on any level, this to be a portable product. Initially, I placed the Flame in our feild - the real bonfire feeling. But the wheels could not handled the uneven ground and moving it around was a backache - literally. Even on our deck it's a bit of a chagllenge to move.
2. It's LOUD. Sounds like a huge blow tourch. I have contacted Weber to see if there is any tweaking to reduce the flowing gas sound and there is not - though they did offer a free campfire CD - which was thoughtful, but does not solve the problem.
For almost $600, I would expect more from Weber. I love the concept. I still use it. But I wouldn't recomend the product to friends.

Great Product, September 8, 2006
This review is from: Weber 27000 Flame Outdoor Liquid Propane Gas Fireplace (Lawn & Patio)
I was skeptical after reading some of the reviews of this and looking at the price. Once i got it and lit it, unbelievable. I have a tendency to read the reviews and pick up on others issues with products, so there is a little propane hissing, but the heat that it puts out is unbelievable. The flame levels were alot higher when you think about how much heat and flames your grill puts out. The handles/footrests are heavy duty and perfectly placed. Saying all that, i can see the only drawback is the amount of fuel you might go through. It says that it last 7 hrs, that might be a little generous. I got rave reviews when i started it up, and the next day when we had a real fire pit going, everyone appreciated that they didn't have to wash their clothes due to the smokey smell. That has to be the best part. Aagin, great product.

A great product for the deck!!, July 3, 2007

Also after reading the reviews, I was a bit worried about the noise issues mention.
I am VERY VERY happy with my unit. There is not really any 'noise' more than the flames and slight gas pressure sounds (and my hearing is sensitive). It is not at all an issue in my opinion. In fact, my fire pole (yes the Weber warms the front and the fire pole warms the back) is probably more noisy than the Weber.
It came fine UPS tho supposedly I had to sign for it. My UPS driver is great and even though I was not home, he put it in my garage (I may have a 'signed release' over the years but I think it is more my GREAT UPS driver).
I unpacked it and moved all the parts load by load to the deck alone. The large bottom is the heavy part and the wheels were a great option! I wheeled it across the gravel drive (not toooo easy but it worked) then on the grass (worked GREAT). Up the stairs and onto the deck was the only lifting I had to do. Granted I do not plan to move it now that it is put together and the LP tank is connected.
I was VERY PLEASED with the LP tank connection feature. The unit has a 'hanging bracket' on the back of the fire pit (behind the solid black screen on that side). You simply hang the LP tank and there is a gauge based on weight that tells you how much LP you have left! Pretty clever of Weber to incorporate two features into one.
The unit lights VERY VERY easily. The first time I used it the flames were 'so so' but the second time (extended use) it became PERFECT. I think a lot depends on how you put the lava rock down (single layer and not all right on top of the holes). It REALLLLY looked like a real fire the second time I used it with yellow flames going very high into the unit (not high enough to have to worry about it tho).
I am VERY pleased with the unit. I note that the previous reviews are from 2006 so there may have been some improvements since then and my June 2007 purchase.
The only part I miss compared to a real fire or a gas fire in the house is the lack of 'glowing embers' at the base of the fire. I can see however the reason these were not included as they are light weight material and would tend to blow out of the unit when operated outside.
Now I gotta start stocking marshmallows in the house for the evenings by the Weber fire pit! Some-mores??? Well a nice scotch also works!
