4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not quite up to PCI, August 11, 2005
This review is from: Weber 9930 One Stainless Steel Welded-Rod Cooking Grate (Lawn & Patio)
These grates are pretty much everything they should be. They are heavy, durable, and reasonably easy to clean. They do tend to keep a black "char" film that I found difficult to remove. They sear well, but food tends to stick a little bit more than the Weber porcelain-coated cast iron (PCI) grates that you can get from a certain big-box store, which, except for the durability issue, I think are slightly superior to these.

(These were used on a 2005 Weber Genesis grill.)

These are very high quality, heavy duty cooking grates but they are designed for older Summit series grills only (400 and 600 series). They do not fit ALL Summit grills as advertised. Specifically, they will NOT fit late model Summit grills such as the 2005 Gold or Platinum series (these require Weber PN 41231).

5.0 out of 5 stars Cook Like Professionals, February 13, 2002

This review is from: Weber 9930 One Stainless Steel Welded-Rod Cooking Grate (Lawn & Patio)
Great grill marks alone makes the stainless steel welded-rod cooking grate my favorite grilling surface. Whether grilling meat or poultry, this cooking surface retains a greater amount of heat for even cooking and results in less sticking. Also, grate cleaning seems easier after a good burn and the rods retain their original stainless steel luster. Besides meat, the grate grills vegetables and fish with better nonsticking results because it is much heavy than the regular stainless steel grate and less prone to rust spots that can develop on procelain enameled grates.

Cook like professionals without having to purchase the top of the line professional-grade grill. I found that a set of 2 welded-rod grates will fit my 1987 gas Weber (pre-Genesis models) perfectly. I only have 1 grate for now, since they are not inexpensive, and plan to buy another soon. But then again, you are buying qualify. Think of it, 9 pounds of heavy duty stainless steel for each cooking grate. Up-grading to the stainless steel flavorizer bars is also a must to get the most from these heavy duty cooking grates.
