There are several window washing utilities that can be purchased on the web as well as utilities that are included in utility suites such as Norton Systemworks. This utility is by far the best of the bunch. Most of its competitors that can be downloaded are not as efficient and most of the utilities within suites do not work automatically, rather they must be given specific files to wash or wipe from the disk. Window Washer will automatically search for the default directories for your recycle bin, internet cache, cookies, and other temporary files that take up large amounts of disk space but are often not needed. It can then wash them automatically according to a schedule you set. For those who are security conscious or paranoid, numerous settings and histories can be washed such as the Document, Run, and Search histories found in the Windows Start Menu. Numerous "tracks" such as the listing of previously opened files in the File menu can also be washed. In addition to washing files and settings a user can have Window Washer bleach files by overwriting them a specified number of times with random data. There are literally hundreds of plug-ins that can be downloaded for free from the Webroot website to wash specific programs. If you are looking for a program to free up disk space or ensure privacy this the program for you.

I purchased this software solely for the bleaching. While this program can bleach files on your hard drive, it does nothing to bleach unused HD space. So, files deleted before this program was installed can still potentially be on your disk. Since the technology is there, I don't see why this feature can't be added.

Even though it is very handy software and I don't intend to return it, I feel I was fooled into buying it by their claim "Wash away all traces of your PC and Internet activity..."

because of your internet activity they say is being recorded every minute, but this is not so. So, I decided to search for the item myself and came across the item on Amazon.Com. The Product is called Webroot Window Washer.
The item is really quite something because the program[Which arrives in a CDROM] will actually destroy and delete all the internet addresses that are stored On your computer[machine]. One[the buyer of this item] also has too do some reading because you have too do some typing and cliking before everything is set up, but for the most part everything is clear[to read and do]. Before you purchase this item make sure it is compatible with your [machine]. I purchased a Hewlett
Packard [machine] that has the Window Programs "XP" so it absolutely works well with mine, but make sure the Cd-Rom is compatible with your machine before purchasing. Because refunds on some items with some companies are just too technical.The issue of money, and money refunds is very politically with many companies, so check. I purchased the item from Amazon.Com but a distributor sent it too me from New York City.

You definitely do not want one snooping around your computer for whatever reason, or do you ?

I must say that I purchased this product not long ago,
and it really is amazing. It totally and completely erases
all internet addresses that one has visited too. This is the
ultimate in security. It Bleaches the information that you have
stored on your computer, then shut off your computer, and then turn it on again, and you will see that all websites have and will be erased, destroyed, and cleaned from you system, computer system that. The box comes with the instructions, and everything is direct english, their are no mysteries here. The item is a cd rom from webroot, and it is pretty easy to install. you just set it in too your computer, and the program on the cdrom itself will easily run. This is the best in security. The cdrom has other functions that will tell you that the information you have witnessed has been deleted, destroyed, and erased for ever.
You don't have to worry about anyone typing a certain word on the
keyboard to find out what websites you were looking at.
The ultimate in security, a must buy for all who desire and who want to take action on your security/privacy.

I highly recommend this product. I searched the web and tried many trial versions and this one was the best. The reason you wouldn't want to delete the files from the temp folders is because your computer could easily crash. This is pretty stable on my XP computer and is great for clearing the cache on a regular basis, you don't have to worry about deleting the wrong files. If you have ever gotten controlled by pop ups this is your answer. Just disconnect from your online connection or network and clean your system with this. Then rush and get a pop up blocker tool bar! As far as clearing your hard drive free space I wouldn't worry about that until you are ready to get rid of your old computer. This software also has updates and I'm sure will have upgrades to other features soon. Forgot to mention, if you burn cds or dvds this will help you clear your temp folders to free up space. I burned some dvds and wondered why my computer didn't have enough space. I ran the Window Washer and all of a sudden I could burn dvds again. Hate to sound like I am promoting this so much but after running the trial version all month long I had to buy it!

I downloaded this program from Webroot. I already had Webroot Spy Sweeper, which is a very good program by itself. Window Washer was listed as the second best privacy software by TopTenReviews after the much more expensive Evidence Eliminator.
When I first ran Window Washer it seemed to do a very good job of erasing various extraneous information and freed up nearly 1 GB of space on my hard drive. But one annoying aspect was that it changed the look of my display fonts. After much searching and no response from Webroot, I found the solution. In Window Washer go to Options, then Program Settings, then UNCHECK "Automatically set Window Washer fonts to Microsoft Clear Type".
There are some online discussion forums that claim that the Window Washer "Bleach" function doesn't always work. I haven't tried it so I don't know about that.
Overall this program seems to do a good cleaning job and is fairly easy to use.
Update: Caution- when I used the "Clean free space" option, I could no longer connect with the Internet. Don't know what that problem is.

I have used window washer for over 10 years. Works good for cleaning up & bleaching unwanted files. Works better then others I have used.I am happy with it.

The product sent was not what I ordered, it was better. It contained and antivirus which conflicted with my Norton. The buyer offered to take it back if I paid the postage or give me half and I could keep it. This was a very fair way to handle the situation. They seller did not know me yet gave me the advantage of sending back a package where the seal was broken because I didn't realize the conflict until I put it in.

The product that I wanted is a great product. There was just an error which the seller offered a solution that was fully acceptable to both of us.

I purchased this product on Dec. 30, 2011. Althought it's supposed to be for a full year's license, on the screen it says it expires on 4/10/2011. That's only 4 1/2 months use on a purchase meant to be for 12 months. Under the circumstances, I would not purchase from this seller again.
