Webroot Spy Sweeper 3-PC - Windows

I bought this product about a month ago and tried to install it on my XP operating system. Installation is pretty much dumbed down to automatic and I like it that way to some extent. There are not any avenues for making a mistake and that is nice. However, as in my case, after the simpled down installation completes, the program reboots the system, I bring up the program to use it, and I notice the status of the program is inactive. Push enough HELP buttons and you read in their website about their $50.00 assistance fee. After trying to install the program a second time with the same results and really no choices except whether to install a free tool bar for the browser, I went to the control panel and add/remove programs, and jettisoned this program from my computer.

I always liked Webroot's Spysweeper. It did its job unabtrusively and efficiently until I made the mistake of upgrading my subscription to include the "free" anti-virus feature. Since then it freezes my computer during scans and functions properly only after I disable the virus scan mode. Because I can get Windows Defender free, I probably will not renew my subscription to what formerly was a good program. Too bad.

This used to be my favorite sweeper until last year when I tried to get it installed (new version) on my wife's computer. It never installed right. Plus, and this was infuriating, it insists on giving you the benefit of this online storage account with them (which I do not need or want). What's the problem with that? Well, it logs you in every time you update signatures whether you want to, or not. Very annoying.

Most annoying of all, though. It auto charged me today for another year when I'm not using it anyway. I did NOT authorize them to do this in any way that was apparent. Now, I'm spending a lot of time trying to contact them to reverse the charges. I had emailed them a very clear message not to renew but they seemed to have ignored that and charged my card anyway.

I would avoid this company. I will never buy anything from them again. I used to really like them but this is awful customer treatment and the product is not as good as it used to be.

I find all these negative previous reviews interesting because I have had only 1 problem with 3 versions of this
company's programs, all Webroot SpySweeper without Anti-Virus and no Window Washer.
I installed v4.0.3 on Win98 and Me computers. Both also use McAfee Virus Scan v10 and Personal Firewall v7. This
gives me the protection I need, as long as I do not update or scan using both programs at the same time. Webroot
interferes with the McAfee Virus Scan functioning at the same time. While on the Internet I use SpySweeper which
protects me against threats from websites and emails. I want to upgrade to v5.x and see how that works on these
2 computers I can only run "legacy" software on. This will give me more definitions with the higher version.
I installed v6.1.0.124 SpySweeper for MSN on an XP SP3 machine w/IE 7.0 and the first install failed to sweep. I
called Tech Support, connected in about 30 minutes, downloaded the uninstall program to my desktop, removed the
MSN version, and then re-downloaded and installed the same version again. Worked and still works like a charm. I
use it with McAfee Total Protection 2009 and there are no conflicts with Webroot running all the time.
I installed a boxed v6.1.0.145 on an XP SP3 machine with IE 7.0 and have had no problems. A friend installed the
same version on an XP SP3 Dell w/IE 8.0 and the scheduled sweep has not worked so far. Unlike McAfee, Webroot is
tied in close with Windows Task Scheduler. She does have other problems with her XP in addition to this.
This leads me to believe anyone who has problems with Webroot Spysweeper without Anti-Virus has other issues with
their computer, unknown to them. Absent any other evidence, this is a reasonable conclusion I'm willing to take
the heat for, and in my experience can highly recommend Webroot Spysweeper to anyone with a computer free of any
malware, in good working order and well-maintained like mine are.
Unlike inferior competitors' products, SpySweeper blocks adware, tracking cookies and other surfing vermin from
even getting on my computer in the first place. Much better than quarantine and remove AFTER the fact!

This is a great software to have and this was an excellent price. The shipping was very fast.

100% satisfied. I can afford software at this price. I would strongly recommend this to anyone that may have doubts. The whole transaction was pretty fast. I will come back for more things in the future.

Have been a user of Webroot's Spy Sweeper for 5 years. Had previously renewed online but decided to purchase the 3-PC software due to a need to have it on multiple PCs. Shipment and delivery of the product from Amazon.com were excellent.

I attempt to regularly download updates and run a system sweep at least once a week and have downloaded the upgrades to the software online with no problems. System sweeps have taken less time with the latest version of the software. Have only had to call for product support once and was pleased with their phone support. I would recommend this product to anyone interested in having an anti-spyware program on their system.
