With all the horrors of the present age, I often find it difficult to keep from sinking in hopeless despair. Starhawk's "Webs of Power" is a beautifully created jewel of hope in the mire. This is not a think positive thoughts and love everyone new age panacea, but rather a collection of essays documenting the vision and the struggle. It is uplifting to know that there are others out there opposing the evils we have created. Fighting back with creativity, spontaneity and a worldview that rejects the framework of existing power relations by envisioning the world we want to live in: then working to create it. For Starhawk, magic is not just about chanting around an altar to the Goddess. It is about bringing the Goddess out into the streets with plants and seeds, paint and laughter. Taking the vision and creating it with our own hands: the hands of goddess. It is about learning to refuse oppressive authoritarian power, not by confronting it with more of the same, but rather by tapping into our own innate power - power from within. The power of people working together towards a shared goal.

I just read the review of Susan Norton and would have 2 comments: this is not really a review you give. Why do you think this is the most stupid book you ever read? And why did you not stop reading it if it was so stupid? I think it is one of a must read, in order to form a informed opinion about the world and the way we live and raises the question why we accept things as they are, even we do not agree with politicians.
And most of I found it most inspiring and let's me see demonstrators and police power in a different way. Thanks for writing this great book!

This is an amazing book that dares to tell the truth. However, it is only for those readers who have the will and strength to change the world and if that's not you than you probably won't like this book.

I havent finished reading it yet, but i just have to say AMAZING.
Honestly i found the first half of it a little slow and not that interesting (i dont like experience sharing) however, it does make the second half extremely more relevant and in-depth.
The book deals with alternatives to a capitalist society based on the fact that democracy and capitalism are opposite types of systems. As i was reading this i ended up with over 15 pages of notes and thoughts of my own, definately stimulating!

And since the topic is alternatives, i'd definately say borrow it from your library for a week or two and then decide for yourself to buy it!

Activist and writer Patrick Diehl has a wonderful grasp of one of the best books about spirit, change and world transformation written in a long time. I really liked Starhawk's book.

An insult to the intellect of young and old alike. One of the stupidest books I have ever read.
