2007
A reluctant groom . . . Noble warrior James MacCarran has no desire to venture onto the thorny battlefield of marriage. But his grandmother's will issues an ultimatum-marry or forfeit his rightful inheritance-and now he must find a bride. Only the most ravishing woman could make it worth his while, but when he meets Elspeth MacArthur, she is nothing like he anticipated. Yes, she is beautiful, luminous really, but there is something mysterious about this lass . . . An enchanting bride . . . Reluctant to leave her Highland home, Elspeth must keep an astonishing secret when unexpected circumstances force her to marry. But as an unseen threat draws ever closer, about to reveal the truth of her life in the mystical Highlands, she soon realizes that her only haven is in James' passionate embrace . . . and that carries the greatest risk of all.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bane of my existence..., December 29, 2007
By
I'm not sure how anyone reading this story could come away with anything less than a smile...much less putting the book down unfinished as one reviewer commented. And as to "fantasy...over the top" isn't that what fantasy is? Or believing the unbeleivable? Over the top? It was very interesting to watch James, an unbeliever in anything that can't be explained with logic, argue with himself. I will say that I was somewhat disappointed though at the end after experiencing what he did, James still tried to explain things away with logic. At this point I wanted him to be a true blue 100% believer!

James and Elspeth offer just enough contrast to one another to be interesting and as for the fairies in the story, all I can say is I wanted more!

The history, geology, and scenery was done in such beautiful detail by Ms. Gabriel that I could see things vividly in my mind! Extrememly well done!

This is my first read by Ms. Gabriel and seeing that it apparently falls under her previous two books, "Keeping Kate" and "Stealing Sophie" I intend to pick those up right away.

The bane of my existence? Waiting the typical year before the next installment. And PLEASE, let it be about Lord Eldin! =)

2.0 out of 5 stars TOO MANY FAIRIES AND NOT ENOUGH ROMANCE, December 19, 2007
This book left a lot to be desired. Too many fairies make this a story for a child and not any adult looking for a great romance read. I did not even finish this book because it was so childish. Fantasy is one thing, but this book goes way over the top in that regard. Every other sentence was used to explain the Scottish fairies instead of the romance that was happening with the couple. If you want a good romance read, this is not the book for you. Just my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful!, March 26, 2008
To Wed A Highland Bride was a delightful read for any romantic! I couldn't put the book down and was thoroughly enthralled for the entirety of it. As a lover of faerie lore, I found that addition to the plot compelling and, needless to say, entwining that with a sultry romance made me wish the book just kept on going! I would highly recommend reading To Wed A Highland Bride, particularly if you are in the mood for a fantastic, whimsical tale.
