One of the worst from Silhouette Desire,
This review is from: Wed To The Texan (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
I didn't finish this book because I was so disgusted by it. As others have said, the characters were both selfish and superficial. Jake was annoying and Emily was weak, the way she would so easily succumb to her husband's every wish as soon as he touched her. That's not a foundation for a good relationship. And when Emily had doubts about their marriage, Jake threw half a million bucks her way, and POOF--her anxieties were gone. When she said "you're giving me money--you really do care!" I thought she was being sarcastic. When I read on and discovered she was serious, that's when the disgust really built up. The extent of Jake's showiness and greed made things worse. I've read enough of these books to know how it'll go... he'll realize the error of his ways, and that he was making money to fill a hole in his childhood or past or whatever, blah blah, but in my opinion, he's so unlikeable that no amount of soul-searching or donations to charity are going to redeem him. Skip this one--there are many others from this series that are worth the time.

This book was boring. Too much of the same dialogue. I kept ready ahead to get past what was being whinned about over and over again. Story was predictable all the way through. Waste of time. She was weak and he was perverted.

Boring, boring, boring. There was absolutely no romance- just sex and even that was yes, boring. Why should Emily be surprised and angered that her husband married her to get an inheritance? It was a marriage of convenience. She says shes not interested in money but she sure is eager enough to spend it when Jake offers it to her as a stipulation. Not a winner!

This is the first book (and I've read 100s) I've actually found disappointing within the first 13 pages. Both characters (Jake & Emma) lack depth and the story lacks excitement. As another reviewer wrote, "even the sex is dull". I have to agree on that point. I might skip to the last chapter to see if book was a total loss. P.S. I skipped to the last part of the book and was still disappointed. Not much substance to keep a reader wanting to turn page after page.

My sister gave me this book and I found it quick OK read. The concept is that Jake Thorne a very rich Texan man. If he gets married and had a child - her mentor will give him larger share of his estate when he dies. He picks his shy conservative secretary Emily for his wife - after one meal together. The story really takes place after they married - Emily finds our real reason they got married then the real conflict starts. It was Ok book - very light.
