5.0 out of 5 stars Red Hats Ride Again --- Hooray for Heywood Smith!!!!!
If you haven't read the two prior Red Hat books, don't let this stop you from reading this one...but do yourself a favor and order those right away. Her characters are warm, witty, and the epitome of girlfriends everywhere. I liked it so much that I ordered a second copy for a friend, and I know that Amazon readers will, too.

Now I'm waiting for the next...

Am not finished with this book, but am enjoying it thorughly. Not as great as "The Red Hat Club", but is a fun & frivolous read. One thing bothers & confuses me in reading the book. 2.0 out of 5 stars Was disappointed, September 3, 2010

I own all of the Red Hat books, so I was excited to receive Wedding Belles. I was really disappointed with this book. I found it a bit of a let down. The spark of friendship that exists between the women in the Red Hat series seemed forced in Wedding Belles. Also, where was SuSu in this book? No explanation or reason for her absense. (Did I miss something?) All in all it was just ok at best.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Enjoyable Read Many Times Over, January 5, 2010
This review is from: Wedding Belles (Paperback)
I bought this book to read during summer vacation in Charleston, SC. It was so hard to put down that I finished the book within a few days! The book definitely kept me guessing as to what with happen with Callie and Wade or Callie and her mother. The women's friendships are also priceless, and anyone with a group of close girl friends will be able to identify with it. I've read the book numerous times since I first finished it, and still enjoy it every single time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyable, November 28, 2009
This review is from: Wedding Belles (Paperback)
What would you do if your talented, beautiful and intelligent daughter tells you that she is marrying a long-time friend of the family and he is 60 years old to her 28? You go into meltdown that's what!

The author hits all the right notes of authenticity in this mother daughter tale and leads up to the grand finale and what a finale it is.

The story is told from the mother of the bride's perspective and keeps you guessing until the very end. There are the rounds of bridal showers and engagments parties to keep the action going as well as big blow up scenes between the bride and her mother. The scenes were well done and not tacky. You could feel the mother's frustration at her daughter.

This was very readable and very realistic. The story brings home the point that so many girls will marry whom they want come hell or high water regardless of family misgivings!

3.0 out of 5 stars some non sequiturs, January 14, 2009
This review is from: Wedding Belles (Hardcover)
Am not finished with this book, but am enjoying it thorughly. Not as great as "The Red Hat Club", but is a fun & frivolous read. One thing bothers & confuses me in reading the book. The Linda character's married name in this book is her maiden name in the first book. Linda's maiden name was Bondurant, & yet the character refers to her mother-in-law as "Mother Bondurant" while Linda's married name in previous book was "Murray"----makes me scratch my head in that I seem to take the character more seriously than the author. Also, Teeny's story differs from original book in that it now appears that she seaparated from her abusive husband Reid before their boys were grown. In previous book, Teeny continues to live with Reid until the children have left home & then she files for divorce. Hate to be a nit-picker, but one would think that the author or editor would have been more careful with story continuity. Also, whatever happened to SuSu? Susu's absence is neither explained nor is she mentioned. I do hope Smith keeps writing about these interesting & human women--they are all so loveable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, September 16, 2008

Somewhat sermonizing but otherwise entertaining. Some of the plot outcomes are a bit obvious. I love all of the characters - they're very human, very down to earth.

One thing I don't understand, however, is Linda's married name being the same as her maiden name. Did she marry a distant cousin? Not having the previous books at hand, I have no history to reference. Does anyone know?

My only beef is it could have used sharper editing, e.g., "You look mah-velous" was credited to Ricardo Montelban when it should have been Fernando Lamas and Sol Rosenwasser's name morphed into Sol Wasserman.

The book is worth the time and (sometimes) effort to read. It is, for the most part, pretty entertaining. There are a few laugh-out-loud portions which are most welcome in the occasional pontificating (I guess using that word to describe a Southern Baptist is laughable in itself).

I'm sure her fans will welcome this endeavor w/ open arms.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining women's book, November 9, 2009

I enjoyed the book because of the ages of the main characters. They have rich life experiences and overcome life's challenges......sometimes in a silly immature way. Fun to read and wonder what I would have done. I am not as brave. This was a satisfying read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book Full of Laughs, November 6, 2009
This review is from: Wedding Belles (Paperback)
I listened to this book driving to work each day. I don't recall who read the book but I found it fun and enjoyable listening to these "Southern Bells" and their stories.
I bought a copy for a friend and she enjoyed it too, although she did say on paper it was a little slow sometimes, but then it got better. So much better that she stayed up reading to find out what happened. Give it a try.
