5.0 out of 5 stars Best Buy Ever!, September 14, 2006
This review is from: A Wedding Ceremony to Remember: Perfect Words for the Perfect Wedding (Paperback)
My fiance and I had a friend marry us, so we had to come up with our own ceremony. We didn't want to write it ourselves, but we didn't want a cookie-cutter religious ceremony either. This book was the answer we were looking for. I bought many books, but ended up only using this one. It's extremely well organized, and even comes with worksheets!

It's organized by type of ceremony you want (i.e. traditional religious, contemporary non-religious, quick, second time around), and this was perfect for us. The readings, vows, and everything in that section ended up being exactly what we were looking to say. We read through the whole book to make sure other selections in other sections weren't better, but we always ended up loving what was in the section for the type of wedding we wanted. The people who did this book have impecable taste.

This book focuses on love, commitment, and in some cases religion without being cheesy or overdone. They have all the classic wedding things you'd expect (such as Corinthians for readings), but they also add readings that are less traditional, but equally romantic and applicable to your ceremony. It has a sense of uniqueness, but still traditional.

I highly recommend this book to anyone doing their own ceremony, or even people who just want to add a little something extra. I couldn't have done my ceremony without it!

Between the organization and taste, this book was really well done. It was such a relief that they organized it by ceremony type (and then by type in the back, such as readings, vows, ring vows), so you're not feeling lost reading through 100 different readings and hating all of them. This is a bride must-have!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent -- EXTREMELY helpful!!, January 26, 2006

This review is from: A Wedding Ceremony to Remember: Perfect Words for the Perfect Wedding (Paperback)
My now husband and I were having a non-religious wedding performed by a friend of ours who got ordained online. I didn't want to leave my friend with the responsibility of writing and arranging a wedding ceremony. I looked online everywhere for a non-religious wedding ceremony outline and couldn't find a thing! I came across this book and decided to give it a try. This book was PERFECT! It gave a list of several processional and recessional formations, several readings, and vows -- this was just what I needed to write up a non-traditional wedding ceremony from scratch.

The reason why I gave this book 4 stars was because many of the vows and readings were religious in nature, although there were enough non-religous works for me to use. Also, some of the readings were alittle over-the-top (too "lovie" and "gushy"). We ended up picking out a Shakespear poem for our reading that we found online.

The major plus of this book was the inclusion of other "traditions" that can be done during the ceremony. I personally can't stand the unity candle and this book offers so many other choices. We ended up picking the handfasting tradition -- which many at our wedding commented was unique and an excellent choice. Also they give ceremony outlines that range from short and sweet (10 minutes) to a longer ceremony (30 minutes).

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is having a non-traditional wedding outside of the church setting. I was thrilled. This book made the ceremony planning a breeze!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm a minister, and I think it's a great resource for couples or pros., October 16, 2006
This review is from: A Wedding Ceremony to Remember: Perfect Words for the Perfect Wedding (Paperback)
This is a great book for both couples and wedding ceremony officiants. This book, The Wedding Ceremony Planner by Rev. Judith Johnson, and Diane Warner's Complete Book of Wedding Vows, comprise a nice starter bookshelf for a wedding officiant.

This book has a number of complete ceremonies, numerous vows, readings, and worksheets. It's a great resource for a couple starting to plan their ceremony. Even the "traditional" ceremonies are a little non-traditional. Very nice.

As a wedding officiant, I use this book with couples I officiate ceremonies for. The Rehearsal and Formation worksheets are an invaluable resource. The book also includes a worksheet to pick and choose portions from the ceremonies provided, allowing couples to further personalize their ceremony. Rev. Joel Steinebrg

5.0 out of 5 stars if ever there was a road map..., September 16, 2011

I use this book with all my weddings. Couples can select the parts that work for them, making the service perfect. The sheets tear out and can be safely secured in a note book in the order that you will present the words. So, no messing up when you are standing in front of the couple and witnesses. Thankss

Planning a wedding requires more effort and teamwork than anyone really anticipates! I was asked to officiate at my beloved niece's wedding and wanted it to be filled with meaning for everyone involved in her big day. Where to begin???? Thankfully two amazon reviewers raved about this book: "saving the day".

The beauty of the book is that it provides the bones of the ceremony, so that the structure is clear, and then provides suggestions for virtually every possible preference and inclination. The suggested rituals are beautiful and fully explained. The author has done the kind of footwork on this that would have taken me many months...and that would have been working on this 24/7. Buy this book and breathe more easily as you prepare for the big day.

This book covers so many different varities of ceremonies, with a wide selection to choose from. My husband has been preforming wedding ceremonies now for a few years for very close friends and family members. This book is my favorite, and is currently on loan to another family member who my husband will marry next month. I highly recommend it for the layperson who preforms ceremonies or even to the future bride and groom who would like to personalize their ceremony to fit them.
