Wedding bells...wedding woes!,
By Raj "raj_thatsme" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wedding Day Disaster (Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew) (Paperback)
Synopsis: Nancy's cousin Sara is getting married to a man named Brett. Nancy is very excited about being the flower girl for their wedding. Bess and George are also attending because George's mother is catering the wedding, and they are in charge of carrying the wedding cake.
The wedding runs smoothly until the time comes to cut the cake. As Sara is about to cut her cake, she is shocked to see a large piece already cut on the side. Sara tries to hide her tears because her wedding was not perfect. The Clue Crew decide to investigate and find the person responsible for the missing cake piece. They narrow their suspects down to: * Kendall: Brett's bratty next door neighbor, who was really angry during the ceremony that she was not a flower girl, she actually stuck an onion into Nancy's flower basket as Nancy was walking down the isle. Did she want to ruin everyone else day by cutting the cake? * Famous François - The 'cooky' caterer from France, who expects his cake to be unique that he put wolves on top of the cake. Could he have cut the cake just to make a statement of his work? * Mr. Kernkraut - The owner of the wedding chapel, who is supposed to be in a diet, but cannot resist eating sweets when no one else is watching. Was he hungry enough to take cut the cake and take a bite? * Patsy - Brett's aunt and the owner of Patsy's Pastries, was really upset that she wasn't allowed to bake a cake for Brett's wedding. Would she cut a piece to teach her nephew a lesson and sabotage his wedding? Review: This was a great book to read. The story is well paced for the young reader to understand, and it also provides a good twist in the end that even I did not expect. The illustrations are also nicely drawn , except in some drawings, Mr. Kernkraut doesn't look so overweight that he needs to be in a weight watcher's diet. The only part where I think the author could have made a slight change was if the Clue Crew (or just George at least) had been punished a bit for ruining the cake in the end of the book. After all, they did sneak into the art gallery without anyone's permission, and even though they solved the case, they didn't even get remotely punished for ruining François' cake. Other than that, this was overall a fun book to read, as it even had me guessing who the culprit would be.

My daughter, now 11, has been reading the Nancy Drew and The Clue Crew series for a couple of years and she loves them. They are an easy and pretty short read!
