After rescuing his six-year-old niece from San Francisco's infamous Barbary Coast, Solomon Wolfe returns to his Montana ranch and goes gambling for a wife to raise his obstreperous charge. Cairo Brown, an elegant lady hustler who reigns over the local billiard establishment, seems the perfect choice. As this unlikely couple face off in a pool tournament with marriage as the prize, tension rises. The unusual twist on the "marriage of convenience" device provides an extra dollop of delight while the carefully detailed background adds richness to a satisfying story about two survivors surprised by love. Complex family entanglements and revenge culminate in a rousing finish to this thoroughly enjoyable western romance.

Review
Solomon Wolfe's sister had died, saddling the long-time gunman with a small, heathenish niece to raise. All he could do was take Carnet back to Montana with him and hope the ranch was still his. Upon reaching their new home, he finds himself severely lacking in funds. To make some quick money, he challenges the town's billiards champion, placing his most valuable possessions, his guns, on the table. Cairo Brown was used to facing challengers with money to burn. These men were funding her dream of living the high life in New York City. This Wolfe character with his bold stares and steady hands would not ruin her. After facing Solomon several times and losing her entire fortune to him, she becomes desperate, accepting his challenge one more time. This time, however, she was putting herself on the line -- marriage to Solomon Wolfe for one year. When the balls fall in Solomon's favor, Cairo finds herself in front of a minister and for better or worse she is not Mrs. Solomon Wolfe. How would she ever be able to live that down when the year was up and she finally heads to New York? Would she ever be able to hide her wretched marriage to this lowly gunman with his pitiful ranch? Cairo moves to Solomon's ranch, and the passion they shared for competition on the billiards table grows in other ways. Cairo longs to break down Solomon's walls. Solomon's desire for Cairo edges him closer to the brink. He had needed a mother for Garnet and had married one, but now his own need for Cairo is more than any man could endure. Cairo's soft touch and velvety skin torments him, and he is lost. Cairo senses the tenderness in Solomon's rough exterior and clings to it, drawing it out into the warm Montana sunlight. Solomon, in turn, exposes Cairo's sensuality, seeing her become his daisy right before his eyes. As Solomon's past catches up to him, Cairo and Solomon are caught in a feverish attempt to hold their futures together. As everything they hold dear is threatened, they must find the strength to fight. The strength of their fragile love for each other can carry them past their worst fears if they learn to hold fast to it and acknowledge the power that lies between them. As an historical, Cait Logan's latest is fast-paced, riveting, and fun. As a romance, it is heated, passionate, and sensual. Cait builds lively and entertaining characters that are so real and enjoyable that you will find yourself smiling as you read. You will adore Garnet, laugh at Quigly, and shiver at Duncan; but Cairo and Solomon will melt your heart as their story unfolds.A brightly lit billiards parlor and a tumbled-down old ranch make for real fun as this gamble for love unfolds. Cait Logan's characters are lively, entertaining, and beautiful. They move artfully and speak with emotion. Incredible! Cairo and Solomon leave you hungry for more! Their passions run rampant through your heart, leaving you breathless and aching for more.Karen Ellington --
