Book Description

Wedding Hells is a laugh-out-loud British chick lit short story

Mel Parker’s perfect little sister is getting married and she’d rather cut her own arm off than attend. Her relatives are guaranteed to give her hell about not going first, her dress is unbearable and her beloved best friend Will isn't even invited.

But her boyfriend is there. And there’ll be cake. So maybe it won’t be as bad as she thinks.

Maybe it’ll be worse...

Wedding Hells can be read as a stand-alone short story, but is also a prequel to the romantic comedy novel The Dr Pepper Prophecies by the same author.

Short story (5,500 words, 18 Kindle pages)

--DG, Badass Book Reviews

‘I couldn't put it down and read it so quickly. This author has a fantastic way with words and knows how to engage the reader.’
--Nicola Smith, What Nikki Read

‘I loved The Dr Pepper Prophecies. It’s an entertaining and satisfying book with a little romance and a whole load of girl power.’
--Ian Seta, The Indie Bookshelf

‘This book is hysterical.’ ‘Anyone who enjoys chick lit will really love this one!’ ‘The perfect feel-good read.’ ‘Jennifer Gilby Roberts has a wicked sense of humour that helps to convey a brilliant story.’ ‘I stayed up late last night to finish reading this - couldn't wait to see what would happen next!’

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and enjoyable August 22, 2013

This was such a hilarious read! It's the prequel to 'The Dr Pepper Prophecies', which I haven't read YET but hopefully will soon. I'm not gonna write a long review, because I was never good at writing reviews about novellas...don't could be because I'm afraid my review would be longer than the book itself. OR maybe I'm just too lazy sometimes...yeah it could be that.
Well anyway, I decided to review this one mostly because I think that despite the fact that I had a long and depressing day reading some scientific stuff for work earlier and I don't feel very eloquent right now, this book DOES deserve all of my efforts. A chick lit lover's gotta do, what a chick lit lover's gotta do, right? And that would be - share with the world the joy of discovering a great new chick lit author and book.

So, of course I enjoyed this novella. If I should describe it by using only one word, I would probably say HILARIOUS! The MC, Mel is really something. She's everything a chick lit heroine should be, funny, smart and sarcastic. She's the black sheep in the family, so it was easy to connect with her. Not that I am the black sheep in the family, *coughs* but still I felt her so close to my heart.

This really was an easy and enjoyable read. And I'm so so thankful to the author for making me laugh so hard. I absolutely love her writing style and the humor so I'm definitely checking her other book soon.
Ok, it's been a loooong and exhausting day for me, so I'm gonna end my review here. All I can say is that you really need to check this one out. Like really REALLY check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulously Entertaining! August 20, 2013

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! I felt so sorry for the main character, Melanie. She's having so much bad luck while her selfish sister, Brittany, is being highly praised for having married "well".

Melanie's family, in my opinion, are not supportive whatsoever. I'd want to run away from those fools too! They're so critical of her for wanting to have a life as an independent woman instead of marrying at such a young age - like her sister.

I was so glad that Melanie had a true friend throughout all of this wedding hell because her family and lowdown boyfriend are all pathetic and selfish. I did not like those people!

But I did like Melanie, and hope to read more about her in future stories.

If you want a good short read, this is the one! You'll definitely discover why it's called "wedding hells."

4.0 out of 5 stars The Story of My Life January 15, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read the reviews below and seriously had to download this short story to see if it was really that bad. It wasn't. The story was short--as advertised--and it is a teaser, or prequel, that makes the reader want to read the Dr. Pepper Prophecies. This is what many, many, many authors do and I think it's a wonderful idea. The reader gets to find out quickly and easily whether they will like a series or not before they jump into a whole novel. That being said, Wedding Hells was hysterical! The protagonist, Melanie, has my luck. Broken zippers, dumped for her best friend, and losing her dress in public. Yes, this happened to me at a church dance once. Full frontal view, UGH!!! Her disappointment in healthy foods---this is SO me. I loved her and will definitely be reading the Dr. Pepper Prophecies. I hope Melanie ends up with Will!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wedding Hells October 8, 2013

I normally don't download a book if I see it's too short - been disappointed by novellas too many times. They start you up, then leave you high and dry, wondering, "Huh? Wth??". However, I really liked this book. It is as described: it's LOL funny! Not into spoilers, but the dress-bursting scene made me howl-out-loud! I really look forward to the rest of the series!!

4.0 out of 5 stars hilariously & deliciously funny! August 9, 2014

Wedding Hells is a hilariously fun and deliciously witty short story that had me laughing all throughout the book. Melanie just got dumped on her younger sister's wedding, squealed when a spider appeared in front of her during a photoshoot, got humiliated in a speech made by her own dad and her bridesmaid dress got thoroughly ripped when she made a grab for the thrown bouquet, which was really a sight for sore eyes. Melanie just couldn't find her luck and it made me root for her more. Kudos to the author for a very funny story that surely made me want to read the next book in the series!

So dumb to offer this as a free book. It is a gimmick to get you to bug more books. Very disappointing.

This wasn't funny. It was pitiful. It was also too short for a short story. Didn't care for it.
