Wedding Kit for Dummies,
By Judith S. Weiss "Doctor Judith" (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wedding Kit for Dummies (Soft Cover with CDR) (Paperback)
I never can keep a copy of Weddings for Dummies; I no sooner buy one and I give it as a gift. I bought my first copy because someone told me that the information on flower arrangements would be helpful, even though the event in question was not a wedding. My last copy of Weddings for Dummies is on a shelf in Maine where it did duty in the planning of my son's wedding (a wedding of which Marcy Blum should be proud). When I ordered the Wedding Kit for Dummies, I thought I was replacing my Weddings for Dummies; what I got was a fantastic supplement to Weddings for Dummies, an entirely new book replete with software to make even the most disorganized person an organized party planner. The original book enables the bride-to-be to plan the wedding of her dreams, down to the smallest detail. The new book allows those dreams to take wing; it is a comprehensive "how to do it" book. The CD has forms, contracts and even spread sheets to keep track of expenses. There are checklists for things that most people might not even think of on their own, but which make a special event even more special...like how to evaluate a potential reception site. There are website addresses and sensible advice on how to use the Internet to obtain information and goods. I found the chapter entitled Ten Amazing Places for Destination weddings and Honeymoons especially interesting (I always wondered what it cost to get married at Disneyworld!) In short, if you cannot have Marcy Blum plan your wedding, this is the next best thing. If you are planning on giving this book as an engagement gift, pair it with the first book; the two together are indispensable references for planning the perfect wedding. Marcy Blum and Laura Fisher Kaiser have given us a glimpse of why books will not go the way of dinosaurs, a book that can actually help us interact better with the Internet rather than being replaced by it.

Waste of money,

This review is from: Wedding Kit for Dummies (Soft Cover with CDR) (Paperback)
I just bought this book to help me plan for my wedding. I was happy to have a tool to help me keep track of my important information. The only problem is that you can't use it! All you get on this CD are sample that don't help you unless you spend another $35.00 to download "My wedding planner". I decided that it would be worth it. It turns out the the sample in this book is outdated and can't be used with the new internet software. When I tried to download the new software, my computer crashes. I have tried everything to get this software, but without any luck. I have written the company for help (because they don't respond to phone calls) repeatedly. They have not responded. Don't waste your money on this product. It isn't worth it!

CD-ROM contains too many bugs,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wedding Kit for Dummies (Soft Cover with CDR) (Paperback)
I bought this to accompany Weddings For Dummies. Don't bother buying the Kit. The most "helpful" part of the Kit is a budget- tracking spreadsheet -- you enter the costs of wedding items, and it keeps track of how much you're under/over budget. The budget tracker has many, many errors. It omits tens of line items in your total costs. What good is a spreadsheet if it's not set up correctly? Otherwise, the Kit has little information that isn't already covered in Weddings For Dummies.

Wedding Kit for Dummies,
By "suz1973" (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wedding Kit for Dummies (Soft Cover with CDR) (Paperback)
The wedding kit book constantly refers to chapters you should reread in the weddings for dummies book, so if you do not own BOTH books, it's useless. The wedding planner on the cdrom is only a demo version, and only allows you to add ten guests, and expires after a few weeks. I did however find some of the standard planning forms very useful, but you could find all and more of the info included in this book online if you really wanted to save yourself the money.

Don't waste your money,
By Mark Cheever (Detroit, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wedding Kit for Dummies (Soft Cover with CDR) (Paperback)
If you know how to read, you're too smart for this book. Marcy Blum's approach is 1) condescending and 2) geared toward a big-budget crowd. The CD-ROM is difficult to use and the anecdotes in the text are tired. I'd suggest buying another dozen roses and saving your money.

BUYER BEWARE,
By SnarkySmurf (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wedding Kit for Dummies (Soft Cover with CDR) (Paperback)
The CD doesn't include the software that it says it does. You have to hunt in the book to find the information that the software included is TRIAL versions only (you can get full versions for a "nominal" fee). It says it includes excel and excel documents which are simply NOT present on the CD. DO NOT BUY!

Library Rental Must,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wedding Kit for Dummies (Soft Cover with CDR) (Paperback)
I rented this book from the local library. Although the CD wasn't in the book, I still got plenty of ideas how to custom create spreadsheets to fit my needs. Tech Savvy or Excel Proficient people will love the ideas in this book.

For A Stressfree Marriage Ceremony!,
By Maggie Guidotti (Bozeman, MT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wedding Kit for Dummies (Soft Cover with CDR) (Paperback)
This book was a real life saver for my wife and I when we got hitched last Fall. With all the trivia and stress that's related to a wedding-this is a no-brain BUY for any engaged couple IMO. From A to Z , things we never thought of to the obvious we were walked through as though the book was written AT us! There is a lot of psycological wisdom that truely eased the trivial stresses that went hand in hand (fun intended) leading up to and through our wedding. We weren't so exhausted from planning, etc to enjoy the HONEYMOON!! Thanks for a great book!

Good but is misleading,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wedding Kit for Dummies (Soft Cover with CDR) (Paperback)
Good book, lots of help, but the title should definitely say "Buy after Weddings for Dummies" or "Compliments Weddings for Dummies" or even "Useless without Weddings for Dummies" as it spends much of your time referring you to the other book. Together they are helpful, but definitely should have been one book total. Don't let this deter you, if you like organization and lists this is for you. BEST PART OF THE BOOK: CD ROM

Outdated,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wedding Kit for Dummies (Soft Cover with CDR) (Paperback)
The CD is extremely outdated. Does not run on computer running newer Windows versions - 95, maybe 98. All doc files are read only so they cannot even be saved manually. I'm glad I purchased an inexpensive used copy.
