5.0 out of 5 stars Let the Greeks interpret the Greek New Testament, May 2, 2010
By
This review is from: Greek Wedding Parallel New Testemant Ancient/Modern (Greek Edition) (Bonded Leather)
This is a great edition with the Koine Greek New Testament and Today's Modern Greek Version on facing pages. The font of both texts is fairly large and the book is well bound with a nice fake leather cover that feels good in your hand. The book comes with a ribbon marker and maps that are in Greek.

Even if you don't know Modern Greek, this text is very helpful in giving you insights into the Koine text. The language has of course changed in its morphology, but the underlying vocabulary remains similar. This Modern Greek version tends to make the meaning of the text more explicit and often follows the same tact as some English translations. This amounts to a Greek commentary on the Greek text. If your Koine is pretty good, you can learn how to read the Modern Greek New Testament fairly well just by spending a few days with a Modern Greek grammar, and having a Modern Greek Dictionary in hand.

The Modern Greek is of course in the final analysis just one more interpretation of the Greek New Testament, but as one written by Greeks, for me it has a little more weight.

The Amazon name for this book, "English Parallel New Testament," makes no sense, because this book is entirely in Greek.
