Finally--a series that cares about its characters!,
By A Pensive Student (Wellesley, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wedding Peach - The Complete Second Season (DVD)
For the most part, Wedding Peach was very enjoyable. The theme songs for both seasons are also very catchy and overall, wonderful. This is a series that really cares about its characters. Although Momoko is the starring character, her friends Hinagiku and Yuri do get a good amount of airtime and even...(gasp!) have love interests! This is nearly unheard of in shoujo anime, and it was a really, really pleasant surprise in this one. Momoko's love interest, Yousuke, is an interestingly three-dimensional character that you'll want to root for. Perhaps my biggest complaint about the series is that whenever something important happens, the main characters choose to ask the angel goddess, Aphrodite, to wipe clean other people's memories. This just really aggravated me because it's not only very childish and "cop-out-ish," but it's also greatly slows down the progression of the series (which is already a bit on the slow side) and is incredibly unfair to some of the more minor characters in the series. In general, it's just an insanely weak plot device that's used to "clean everything up" way too often. For people who compare this show to Sailor Moon (since the comparisons are very, very common and with sufficient reason): Wedding Peach is not Sailor Moon. There are some similarities (same character designer, similar beginning plot, etc.) but if you give it a chance, Wedding Peach develops into something unique and wonderful--and has quite a few strengths that the famed and vastly-loved Sailor Moon series does not have. You'll find you appreciate both series for what they each do well. I know I did. The Wedding Peach Manga/Graphic Novels have some differences in the sense that while the anime is more driven by plot-twists, the graphic novels focus a bit more on the character development of Yuri and Hinagiku (and especially with respect to their love interests, too) so if you like the anime, you might want to check those out, too. Wedding Peach is a great anime that you won't want to pass up--especially for this great price (you can get both box sets and spend less than $80 for them together!) To fans of Wedding Peach, I also recommend Pretear, another beautiful anime.

A must watch for collectors!,

This review is from: Wedding Peach Season 2 (DVD)
For all shojo style anime collectors, Wedding Peach is a must to watch. Momoko Hanasaki and her best friends Yuri and Hinagiku are Love Angels out on a quest to save the world and it's lovers from the wrath of Queen Raindevila. This is season two of that series. I thought it would come as a box set, each volume containing it's own case but I was mistaken. Five disks are enclosed in one large case.

When I first viewed Ai Tenshi Denetsu Wedding Peach, I was a little annoyed as a die-hard fan of Sailor Moon. I was fully convinced that this was a poor imitation of the anime about everyone's favorite moon princess...But I was wrong. While I would not recommend that you buy this series INSTEAD of Sailor Moon, this series does in fact stand on its own two feet in some aspects, despite having the same character designer as Sailor Moon (Kazuko Tadano, I believe). The first theme song is lovely and captures the spirit of what it's like to be a young girl with many hopes and dreams. The second theme song is just AWESOME, and i often find myself listening to it on my Ipod. Both the animation of the opening sequence and the song itself are very entertaining. As far as the plot and characters, this anime does a very good job of making sure that everyone gets about the same character development, and you are not left to wonder about them as often. I found them to be very interesting, especially listening to the Japanese voice actresses (I don't really watch the dub), as they are endowed with very unique personalities that show themselves through all aspects of their lives. The relationship between Momoko and Yousuke is by far the funniest element in the first season, and it takes a slightly different turn in this second season which you will not want to miss. So basically, buy both seasons! You won't regret it. They're also very inexpensive for an ADV films release... While I thoroughly enjoyed this anime BY ITSELF, I feel as though it is for a much younger age group than Sailor Moon was designed for, and that this is very obvious. However, it is just this aspect of the show...the naiveness of the characters, that is pleasing about this show.

So Akiko and Tajima called themselves being cupid as they hook their friends up on a double date with Momoko and Yosuke! Not if that evil fire devil Igneous has something to say about it. He sends out a devil wolf on them.
