Steve Sints wedding book is excellent!,
This review is from: Wedding Photography: Art, Business and Style (Paperback)
I highly recommend Steve Sints wedding book. I have been a photographer since the mid-70's but have never photographed a wedding. When I reluctently agreed to photograph my nieces wedding I sought out advice of fellow professionals. Many pointed to Sints book as a good starting place.I bought the book expecting to end up with more questions than answers. But after reading it I know I had found all the information I needed in one book. The book explains everything about the process of photographing a wedding. There are photo lists, equipment advice, pricing information, and most importantly, dealing with the various problems that can occur. If you have never photographed a wedding before or if you are an old pro you can learn from this book.

Direct & Finely distilled manual of Wedding Photography,

I've attended my share of seminars and bought my share of "wedding manual" style books. Steve Sint's is certainly one of the best on several levels. 1) The man can write. He has a breezy, humorous style that easily distills complex themes into understandable concepts 2) He combines all of the relevant features of shooting a wedding, yet doesn't make reading his viewpoint taxing or onerous. 3) The anecdotes (especially the one about insurance) alone are worth the price of the book and pique reader interest by drawing them into the succeeding pages. 4) Topics are discussed in modern styles & devices and the equipment section is to the point, yet again avoids tediousness. I use at as a reference book, as well as a good read. 5) Photos, photos, photos. Hey -- it's a photo how-to. Many books of this genre don't incorporate enough photographs. Also, the posing guide section sans bridal gowns & tuxes really helps to see how body position affects the finished shot. A great, great book -- all for the price of a roll of 220 film -- processed, numbered & sleeved. :-)

Nicely Done!,
By Charles Wilkes "Heritage Conservator" (South East Asia) - See all my reviews

Steve Sint's book is awesome. Not only is it fully illustrated with COLOR examples and explainations, but it covers nearly every aspect wedding photography in detail. This book will show you how to pick the right equipment, take beautiful pictures, create special effects, use flash indoors and out, and whole lot more. Most importantly, Steve Sint will show readers how to develop a strong portfolio! This is a clear, informative, and fun book to read. This author definately gives the reader the best of his know-how and style (unlike 9-tenths of other photography books).

Excellent, Especially Color Photos and Camera Comparison,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wedding Photography: Art, Business and Style (Paperback)
I write as an intermediate amateur photographer (with no intention of turning professional) who is about to photograph my first wedding. I agree with other reviews on this Web page about this overall excellent book, so I'll try not to repeat opinions in those reviews. Unlike other books on wedding photography I looked at, the example photos in Sint's book are nearly all in color, which is nice. The comparison of different types of cameras (e.g., TLR, rangefinder, SLR) on pages 98-112 (e.g., regarding interchangeability of film magazines and lenses, viewfinder and time parallax, and noise) made me think hard about what equipment I'll need. I wish the book had an index (e.g., if you're trying to find info on filters, you have to look under "Lens Accessories" in the table of contents), but this is a small omission in an otherwise great book.

A Foundation to build on.,

This review is from: Wedding Photography: Art, Business and Style (Paperback)
To say that this book is a "Great book for beginners" does not do justice to Mr. Sint's effort. This book is not only about the basics of wedding photography, it is also about common sense and trusting ones own instincts. Sports teams, that play with good, sound fundamentals, are the teams that always find themselves in the big game. Why? There is no secret there. A combination of solid fundamentals and a little talent will take anyone a long way. In reading through this book I found myself saying over and over, "I use to do that. after a while I asked myself "why did you stop?" I could not answer. That is why this book is Great for beginners and just as great for working Pros. Do not think about wheather you can afford it, or even if you need it. If you took the time to read this review, you do need it. Just buy it!

Great book for beginning or experienced wedding photogs.,

This review is from: Wedding Photography: Art, Business and Style (Paperback)
This book is a great resource for both the beginning and the experienced wedding photographer. There's a ton of information on basic posing (including some photographs to show you just how it's done) and lighting which will come in handy to the beginning photographer. There's also a lot of insightful information about trends in the industry and the business end of the job that the more established photographer can learn from. I've been photographing weddings for 8 years and this book provided me with information and ideas that I've been able to implement in my own business. Kudos to Steve for another well written, amazingly useful-in-real-life book.

Good book,
By
This review is from: Wedding Photography: Art, Business and Style (Paperback)
I purchased this book with a group of other books on wedding photography, and am pleased with it. The book begins with "the wedding repertoire" which is the "list" of pictures that a good photographer will want to get at a typical wedding. He goes over when to try and get the pictures and what to do to make the day go smoother. In the back of the book, Mr, Sint has a sample list of pictures to get (and what order they should be taken)
It covers all aspects of a wedding, from booking to album finishing and sales. It goes over lighting with one to four lights, flash, and fill lighting. There is also a chapter on pricing and packages. Mr. Sint has smart business suggestions as well as ways to deal with children who don't want their picture taken (check out pg 133) and the one guy in the bridal party who hates pictures. There is also a discussion on equipment needed and the benifits of various pieces of equipment. This book goes over in enough detail all that someone would need to know to photograph weddings. If you are only going to buy one book, on wedding photography, buy this one. I was pleasently suprised at an entire chapter on posing. The models are all in leotards which makes it very easy to see how the body is positioned. Overall a good buy and a wise investment. I will get more than my money's worth out of this book. Excellent job Mr. Sint!

Clearly the best one yet!,

I've been a follower of Steve's for a couple of years now. He's a rare bird. Immensely successful in his profession and tirelessly sharing with his secrets and methods for addressing the three parts of being a great wedding photographer. He has written a book that is quite simply a college course in wedding photography in 176 pages. I thought I knew a fair amount about the business and art of weddings, but this book oozing with secrets, tips and ideas for doing it better, has snapped me awake. Steve, you did a great. The book is worth ten time what I paid for it because it'll make more money for me I'm sure. It must be great, after all, the competition from "Sweden" seems bent on unscrewing your tripod legs!

Wedding Photography, Art, Business & Style,
This review is from: Wedding Photography: Art, Business and Style (Paperback)
This book was very informative. The ideals for poses and extra ideas the author wrote about were very helpful. I was looking for a book to improve my wedding photography, and this did help alot. However, some of the information was for a camera other than a single lens reflex, but it was still a very informative book and well worth the price.

I thought this was a very good book. I would have to say it covered EVERYTHING you would need to know about wedding photography. I've viewed Denis Reggie tapes, visit wedding photography forums daily, and talked to a few wedding photographers and this book is just as good as everything I've learned everywhere else. You can not go wrong with this one. Please don't take my praise as to say it is the only book anyone would ever need, because like anything else, you should get information from many different sources. Make sure to make this one as part of your education. |
