Book Description

March 16, 2010
“Katie Fforde’s unique spin on romantic comedy is a blend of the sweet, the sad, and the sexy.” —Patricia Gaffney

Sarah is a wedding planner hiding a rather inconvenient truth—she doesn’t believe in love. But as the confetti flutters away on the June breeze of yet another successful wedding season she finds herself agreeing to organize two more events, on the same day, and only two months away. And while her celebrity bride is all sweetness and light, the other bride, Sarah’s own sister, quickly starts driving her crazy with her high expectations and very limited budget. Luckily, Sarah is aided in her seemingly impossible task by two best friends, Elsa, an accomplished dress designer, and Bron, a multitalented hairdresser. All three are very good at their jobs, but romance doesn’t feature very prominently in any of their lives. As the big day draws near, every moment is spent preparing for the weddings, and they certainly haven’t got any time to even think about love; or have they?

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Fforde (Practically Perfect) disappoints with the predictable, formulaic, and unrealistic story of three unlucky-in-love women who work in the wedding industry: Sarah, a wedding planner; Elsa, a dressmaker; and Bron, a hairdresser. Sarah is still jaded years after she caught her college boyfriend cheating on her, but hot and charming wedding photographer Hugo seems determined to break down her resistance. Elsa, shy and proper, would prefer to fade into the background, until she meets Laurence, who encourages her to take the spotlight more often. Bron lives with a controlling man and is desperate to strike out on her own path. A plot lands on the three unfailingly polite, sweet, and near-perfect women in the form of a celebrity wedding they must throw together in less than three months. The catch? Sarah's pregnant sister is getting married the same day and wants Sarah to plan hers as well. Tiresome, twistless plots and two-dimensional characters make this a snore. (Mar.)

From Booklist

Sarah, Bron, and Elsa are best friends, and they all get equal attention in Fforde’s latest romantic comedy. Sarah is a wedding planner responsible for two weddings on the same day: one for her pregnant and demanding sister, and the other for a major movie star. Bron is a successful hairstylist, and Elsa is a gifted, in-demand dressmaker. While the three work together, as they often do, to pull off the impossible task of planning two simultaneously perfect weddings, they also help each other as they fall in and out of love and test the boundaries of dependence and reliance. Wedding Season is truly delightful and fun to read because of the way the three protagonists interact, helping each other with wit, wisdom, and brutal honesty. Fforde’s lively and romantic tale of three friends will ring true to readers familiar with friendships that border on dysfunction but thrive on love. --Claire Orphan

5.0 out of 5 stars another delightfully funny and dramatic read from katie fforde, April 21, 2009
I am a huge fan of Katie Fforde, and I'm in the midst of planning a wedding, so I eagerly awaited my copy of Wedding Season to arrive from interlibrary loan. As usual, Katie did not disappoint.

Wedding Season followed three friends: Sarah, a wedding planner whose secretly pregnant sister and a major U.S. movie star have decided to get married on the same day with only a few months notice; Bron, a hairstylist in an unhappy relationship; and Elsa, a talented dressmaker. The three consider themselves friends and co-workers of sorts, as they often work the same weddings.

It was refreshing to have three main characters, and thus three romances going on. Katie Fforde writes consistently delightful modern, British romantic comedy of manners novels. Her heroines always manage to be easy to relate to, yet inspiring and independent. It was refreshing to see these three learn to rely on one another and a few other helpful hands along the way.

As a bride to be, I appreciated all of the laborious details of weddings. I find novels about wedding planning infinitely more helpful than the actual wedding planning books I've read thus far! Also, Katie Fforde is on twitter (@katiefforde), and she responds to reads, which is amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light and Sweet Like a Delicious Piece of Wedding Cake!, March 16, 2010

This review is from: Wedding Season: A Novel (Hardcover)
I really enjoyed reading Wedding Season! The novel features wedding planner Sarah who, ironically, does not believe that she will ever find love. Her two friends, Elsa and Bron, are in the wedding business as well and are also unlucky in love. I really liked reading about all three of these characters, their fun jobs, and their love(less) lives.

Just when Sarah thinks that another wedding season has come to an end, she agrees to plan two more weddings on the same day and in only two months. One is for a major movie star and the other is for Sarah's own sister. The interactions between Sarah and her sister are great to read about, as Sarah's sister wants a fairy tale wedding on a limited budget and is driving Sarah absolutely nuts. If you have ever planned or are currently planning a wedding or think you may have to plan one someday soon, you will revel in all of the details that wedding planning entails and that Fforde chronicles in this engaging read.

As the wedding planning busily continues, the three friends meet a few men who may just change their minds about love. The romances that develop are sweet, touching, and a little sexy too! The novel is fun to read as Sarah, Elsa, and Bron seem to really find themselves (and possibly love) while crazily trying to pull off two weddings on the same day.

This book is definitely light and fun, but it is also intelligently written. It was released at the perfect time, as probably a lot of readers are looking for a breezy beach read for the Spring and Summmer seasons! I highly recommend Wedding Season and hope you enjoy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars British Chick Lit, June 5, 2010
This review is from: Wedding Season: A Novel (Hardcover)
A celebrity wedding cements three friend's relationships, when the wedding planner Sarah, asks two friends to help with the event. Elsa, the dressmaker, has helped Sarah with wedding creations at another wedding, and Bron, a hairdresser and makeup artist, has as well. When an American film star asks Sarah to plan her English wedding, Sarah, Bron and Elsa come together to plan a large, celebrity wedding.

They also fall in love along the way with various men who they have met at a previous weddings. This is a frothy and enjoyable story for light reading.
