About the Author

Lisa Shea is fascinated by how, from an early age, we are subtly trained in the traditions of courtship. Fairy tales involved red roses as a sign of love. White clothing represents innocence, while green is the color of health. Every culture has its own traditions in the meaning of flowers, the significance of months, and the legends which grow around locations and people. Lisa combined her interest in these romantic traditions with her love of travel and culture. She embarked on numerou trips to lands steeped in history -- the green hills of Ireland, the flowered gardens of France, the beautiful coastlines of Italy. She walked the hexagonal steps of the Giant's caueway, gazed at the serenity of the Seine river, and marveled at the singing gondoliers of Venice. She absorbed the natural beauty of these locations and talked frequently with the locals about their lore and traditions. Lisa'a love of literature immersed her in centuries of traditional tales from each land, revealing a wealth of courtship and romance lore. For a more modern take, she also watched hundreds of movies set in the locations to stay up to date with current practices. Share in Lisa's enthusiasm for all things romantic. Whether you are planning your very first date, or are seeking ways to revitalize a long-term relationship, there is a wealth of knowledge waiting here for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars L'amour, toujour - the French know romance!, January 26, 2007

This review is from: Weddings and Courtships - France (Paperback)
The French have always been known for being true romantics. Lisa's book on French romance and weddings gives those of us who weren't born there the chance to revel in the history, culture and traditions of that culture. It comes complete with ideas for proposals, engagements, and weddings, as well as recipes to bring the glory of France to your table.

From the history of famous French lovers, through courting and dating traditions, reading the book is like steeping yourself in the fragrance of the lavender hillsides of Provence, the taste of champagne, and the passion induced by a close embrace and the whisper of "l'amour".

I've only been to Paris once, with an old friend. As we were strolling through the Montmartre area, an artist approached us and asked if he could sketch a portrait of my friend's petite soeur (little sister). It took a moment to realize he meant me. Nowhere but Paris could I be half so lovely as he drew me, half so beautiful and carefree, half so open to new possibilities. This book is a recipe for romance. Read it an enjoy.
