Excellent wedding etiquette book!,

How to, what to; in this day and age of divorce and second marriages, this book is a MUST! I used it as my reference every step of the way and as I planned by non-traditional nuptials, I was delighted that etiquette was still upheld!Lovely stories from other brides and grooms were told to encourage us to have our own special Scottish ceremony a day we'll never forget!

I bought this as a gift and was VERY embarrassed when the person I bought for opened it and fund writing on numerous pages. It was not advertized as being "used and written in".

My plan was to use this book to get ideas for things to do in our wedding. My husband and I both have been married prior and each have children from our first marriage. The book was helpful in some ways and way off base on others. It talks a lot about feelings of family and friends, things to expect and not to expect such as showers, parties, gifts, announcements, etc. It also talks a little about suggesting ways to incorporate prior family connections such as the ex-mother-in-law that you adore, etc. Good book for those who don't have a clue how to proceed, not so good for ceremony ideas.

Seriously! I am not usually this candid, especially since it is someone else's work I am reviewing (who am I to criticize this author?). However, in this case it is necessary! I am planning my wedding which will be a second wedding for both my fiance and myself. I thought this book would really help me out. Unfortunately it is all common knowledge and very little insight. If you have been in a relationship with your intended for any length of time, there is nothing new to offer - you have already tackled these problems just getting this far together! The book is also very disjointed and repetitive. It seems to go from one topic to another and then back again. And when it is not repeating itself or going off topic - it makes little sense. Even the stories from real-life couples were corny and not very realistic. So far I have 2 other books that have been far more helpful and practical, they are: Intimate Weddings: Planning a Small Wedding that Fits Your Budget and Styleand How to Plan an Elegant Second Wedding: Achieving the Wedding You Want with Grace and Style Trust me!

With me exchanging vows for the 3rd time and my wife for the 4th, this helpful book was a Godsend. The night before the wedding my wife's mother was threatening not to come if my wife's father "brings that tramp" and her second husband was granted parole. But thanks to this well-written and immensely helpful book we took everything in our stride apart from a minor scuffle at the reception between my dad's ex-boyfriend and his then wife.
