5.0 out of 5 stars A fun read!
I enjoyed this book. It was a light mystery with a lot of fun thrown in via the dissapearing body, the vanishing wedding dress and the other problems that arise from having a murder and a wedding.

The author did a good job of picturing the tense times of a wedding. All that was lacking was the normal night before the wedding fight between groom and bride.

Normally I am a fan of the Susan Henshaw series, but this installment was just terrible. By the end I couldn't care less about the identity of the murder victim much less who killed her. The entire premise was so unbelievable. Most of the characters had two different names which kept me confused and the frantic pace that Susan ran around town for 24 hours left me so exhausted I couldn't wait for the book to just end. I would love to know what police chief would only smile upon learning of a dead body being hidden for a day or so in order to not ruin the wedding day for the bride! The fact that her friend Kathleen, a former police officer, agreed to go along with the plan only made it worse. By all means, skip this book.

The author did a good job of picturing the tense times of a wedding. All that was lacking was the normal night before the wedding fight between groom and bride.

I read the other reviews and I disagree in that I didn't find the main character, Susan, to be extremely self centered. Rather I found her to be a normal, flawed mother who was working hard to make the best wedding she could for her daughter. I thought her reaction to finding the dead body and her solutions to hiding the dead body funny.

The book was fun and enjoyable. It was a light mystery that didn't have a lot of gore. I will read others by this author.

Susan's Henshaw's daughter is getting married and, as usual, everything that could go wrong does. However, a missing wedding gown is nothing compared to the dead body which Susan has found. If you can swallow the premise that Susan wouldn't report the murder to the police because she doesn't want to spoil her daughter's wedding day, then you should enjoy this cozy. Acually this book is one of the better ones of the series and contains amusing characters and situations, along with plenty of red herrings and a satisfying conclusion.

Susan's daughter Chrissy is getting married, but when Susan tries to find the wedding dress, she finds the box, and there's a woman's dead body in the box. In a desperate fit to keep the wedding from being ruined, Susan and her friend Kathleen hide the body in various places planning to tell the local police when the wedding's over. Valerie Wolzien has pretty much staked out suburban Connecticut as her place of mystery, and usually, she can be counted on to provide a good mystery and some fun along the way. The problem I had with this book is that Susan seemed to be acting out of character with respect to the law and the process of investigation of a murder. However, having seen my own mother go crazy when my sister got married, I should probably be less harsh. Still, I enjoyed reading this, and as long as you don't take it too seriously, it's a light fun book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Review of Weddings Are Murder, March 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Weddings Are Murder (A Susan Henshaw Mystery #11) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the 4th book I've read of the Susan Henshaw suburban housewife "sleuth" series and with each book I find myself shaking my head in disbelief; but this one, so far, takes the cake. What mother of the bride would be running the streets at two in the morning the night before her daughter gets married trying to track down a murderer, leaving dog "poop" and "pee" on the kitchen floor knowing she is to host a large brunch early the next morning. When the next morning comes she never sets foot in the kitchen to see if the mess is still there but goes off on another wild goose chase. She always uses her best friend Kathleen who was a police officer before she quit and got married as a errand and delivery person more than what she is, a trained professional. As a trained professional Kathleen should be solving the crime(s) and Susan should be assisting her, not the other way around. All the books I have read so far are just not believable but this one ...forget it, I can not recommend it, it seems more like a fantasy than a mystery.

Susan is trying to give her daughter the perfect wedding. In addition to the usual stress, her daughter's dress has not arrived from Italy and her future son in law's parents have invited all of their former commune buddies to a rehearsal dinner intended only for the family. The usual stresses of family only add to the fun. When the dress finally arrives, Susan goes to pick it up only to find the body of a strange woman with a wedding invitation inside the otherwise empty box. How can she give the perfect wedding in a crime scene?

This is one of Ms. Wolzien's better efforts. Her grasp of the details of a large wedding and descriptions of the crazy commune members are wonderful. I really enjoyed the many intertwined plotlines, and the crazy characters really kept me laughing.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Mother's worst nightmare, June 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Weddings Are Murder (A Susan Henshaw Mystery #11) (Mass Market Paperback)
This story continues the saga of Susan Henshaw--the surburban mother t has other outside interest. The stories have followed the growth of her children and the change in her suburban ways. This story takes the suburban Mom and shows some heavy duty problems with the merger of a marriage and a murder. Especially a problem since this Mom wants everything perfect for the daughter--a very normal reaction.

It has some disjointed moments but it is a fun read. It is a good book but she has written better ones

3.0 out of 5 stars Weak entry in the series, March 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Weddings Are Murder (A Susan Henshaw Mystery #11) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a disappointing entry in an otherwise entertaining series. While planning a wedding can be time-consuming, exhausting, distracting, etc., mishaps usually do not occur every few minutes. It seemed like every other page had heroine Susan Henshaw crashing into vases, gifts, food, etc. What I found most unbelievable was Susan's reaction and subsequent actions regarding a dead body. This woman would have never tampered with a crime scene, nor would she have been assisted in this activity by a former police woman. Although this series is worth reading, this book seemed off-track and out-of-focus.

1.0 out of 5 stars Yuck!!!, September 1, 2002

This review is from: Weddings Are Murder (A Susan Henshaw Mystery #11) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have enjoyed all of the Susan Henshaw mysteries and was very disappointed in this one. No self-respecting mother in the world would allow her daughter to abuse her this way. I was so annoyed with Chrissy's behavior, I didn't even finish the book! If this is the only one you have read, please, please try one of the other ones, they are much, much better!

2.0 out of 5 stars Rather unappealing protagonist, October 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Weddings Are Murder (A Susan Henshaw Mystery #11) (Mass Market Paperback)
I think I would have enjoyed this book more if Susan Henshaw were a little more appealing. Is it me, or is she the most self-centered creature on the face of the earth? Or maybe she's supposed to be one of those people you love to hate, and I'm missing something. I keep looking for her to redeem herself with either some razor-sharp wit or deep insight, but I'm still waiting. Disappointing book.
