5.0 out of 5 stars Godsend For The Converted Guitarist, June 29, 2011

This review is from: Wedgie WRPP50H 5.0mm Hard Wedgie Rubber Pick, 3 Pack (Electronics)
As a guitarist who plays bass in a home studio, my picking-hand technique leaves something to be desired. Floppy, spastic thumbing and faux banjo-rolls hardly make for a consistent tone on an electric bass, and the latter have on occasion caused some of those 'important for playing the guitar' right hand nails to come flying off at inopportune moments, and that's not to mention the "ouch" factor. Enter the rubber Wedgie. (there's a sentence you don't get to type every day) I bought the thick (5.0mm) ones in hard and soft versions. Don't yet know how well they'll wear, but they make it very easy to get a consistent, fingery (is that a word? SpellCheck says, "no") tone whether alternate-picking or using all down strokes. I suspect these picks will last longer using alternate picking. Because of the thumb sized depression on only one side, you can really only comfortably hold these picks one way; hardly a dealbreaker. These things could save a session even for a real bass player, if she got a blister or somewhat. The stiffness changes the feel more than the tone; I'd imagine some folks might have a preference for faster runs, but the soft ones have just a little more 'give'. They both sound great and are very controllable, but I might wish for a slightly larger size for even better grip. (the rubber provides very positive control and is way less slippery than any other pick I've used that doesn't have sand embedded in it) I may have to try a soft thin one to see if it has even more articulation, but the upshot is, these picks are a winner for any converted guitarist, or for a pickstyle bassist who wants more tonal options. Definitely a big (and non-sore) thumbs up.

I've read some reviews with people not so pleased with this product when there initial intentions were experimental to start. This is a product that fits the needs for the sound I was after and happily achieved.

While it is true that I am almost old enough to start having to worry about the future of bladder control issues, I still cannot forgot the horrors I suffered throughout my many long years in public schools at the hands of children who would grow to become respected leaders in the community. Even in my choice of guitar picks, must I continue to be reminded of the torture I endured? And the worst thing of all is now I am paying for them. Except now they are rubber, thick, and completely eliminate pick attack on your strings. God, please end my suffering.
