Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

When the family departs, their freewheeling feline becomes the hostess with the mostest in this zany, food- and fun-filled bacchanal. Ages 3-7.

From School Library Journal

PreS - Grade 1-- Catrina the cat waits impatiently for her owners to vacate the house because her cat friends are coming for lunch. When they arrive, the cats immediately begin to prepare an Italian feast because, "Wednesday is Spaghetti Day ." They cook up a storm and have a wonderful time until the school bus pulls up to the house and deposits the children. Utter pandemonium ensues as Catrina's visitors climb on top of each other, circus style, and leave the house cluttered with the remains of their feast. As the unsuspecting children offer Catrina a bowl of cat food, she strolls off to dream about the next day's feast because, "Thursday is Guacamole Day." The plot is pretty far-fetched, and even the most gullible child may wonder at these cats' enthusiasm for tossed salad, grape juice, and guacamole. However, the concept of a group of neighborhood gourmet cats is amusing. The cartoonlike illustrations are colorful, but nothing distinguishes Catrina and her feline friends from one another except for their coloring. Mildly entertaining but hardly an essential purchase. --Laura Culberg, Chicago Public Library Cultural Center

I've been writing and illustrating children's books for more than 25 years and have published over 50 books. I graduated from Massachusetts College of Art in 1980 with a BFA in illustration. My Italian childhood sneaks into my books. The first book I wrote and illustrated was "Wednesday is Spaghetti Day". My books "Bus Route to Boston" and "Clams All Year" are family stories which I hold dear to my heart. Recent books include "Rain Brings Frogs-A Little Book of Hope" ,"Princess K.I.M and the Lie that Grew" and "Princess Kim and Too Much Truth", which are currently being made into Pristin K.I.M The Musical. Broadway here I come! Please keep checking my website and blog to see my new books or learn news about upcoming projects. I live and work in NH where I write and illustrate on an average of two books a year. I have two wonderful daughters and a supportive husband who are the first ones to see my ideas (love to torture them!).
I'd love to hear from you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bedtime reading, June 27, 2004
By
"motardmom" (The Philippines) - See all my reviews
I recently picked up this book for my children, ages 2 and 4, and it has become a favorite bedtime read. I love that it taps my children's excitement for animals and encourages them to think in unusual ways - do cats like spaghetti, for instance? We can use it to reinforce the concept of time as we watch the clock tick closer to 3 o'clock when the children return home and the cats rush to tidy the kitchen. And big words like "spaghetti" and "guacamole" have my 2 year old trying to say new words. It's a good length for a bedtime story - not so long that my younger child looses interest or the story line becomes too complicated, yet there's enough to wonder about that it holds my 4 year old's attention also. It's a great bedtime book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Just ok, January 1, 2011
This review is from: Wednesday Is Spaghetti Day (Paperback)
After a long time acquiring this book, my daughter finally got a used copy. We have another Cocca-Leffler, Bravery Soup, which is just great, so I wanted to get her this one, too. While Bravery Soup has great characters and story, this one is just ok. It's cute, and my daughter likes it. The illustrations are fun, so it's a winner in our house. But it's just ok, not fantastic in my book.
