My 2 year old boy has loved this book for several months now. I like that the illustrations represent what baby animals look like, and the story is simple enough that my son has been able to follow along well and repeat some of the words. I plan to get the other books in the series for him.

My daughter has been obsessed with this book since she 9 months old! It has large beautiful illustrations of the animals (chick, goat, pig, goose, cow)- they are fabulous! Sweet story, too- I highly recommend this book!!

This book is part of the "Isn't it Precious" genre...also the "Hey, I can write a lot of these with little effort and make more money" genre.

No good. Do not buy.

I kept borrowing this from the library over and over again, until I decided to buy one for keeps! Still my daughter's favorite book, she enjoys the large photographs of the farm animals and loves the end where she gets to say, "Sweet dreams!"

The greatest thing about this book are the exquisite illustrations. Butler does a marvelous job of making the animals seem beautiful and sweet, yet still appear seemingly realistic (not very easy with barnyard animals!). The story itself is also pleasant and has a good message. The little chick is the smallest of the bunch, yet it doesn't let it stop or worry her/him (it never assigns a gender to the chick).

Little Chick runs into a goat, a piglet, a goose and a calf. Each tells the chick that it is tiny, with a tiny peep, tiny legs, and tiny beak. In response, the Little Chick stands tallest of them all (with the help of a pile of hay), peeps the loudest, runs the fastest, and finds the biggest seed. Not only does the Little Chick have self-confidence, but the Mama Hen also replies, "Tut, tut, tut! She's my wee little chick and she's just big enough!"

This is a charming story that both I and my 2 year old daughter love. She particularly loves the pictures of the animals. I highly recommend this wonderful story.
