5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful! Great music, very affirming!
Wee Sing videos are top notch but this is one of the best. It is thoroughly integrated- racially, disabilities, adoption, learning disability- not in the least soppy but very matter of fact. No one comments that one of the carolers is in a wheelchair. The music is excellent- lots of old favorites and a few new ones too. My kids have worn out two copies! I use it...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a good video for toddlers
My toddlers (18 months and 2 1/2 yrs)love the Wee Sing videos but this one did not hold their attention. The songs, characters and storyline are not as appealing as the other videos. They usually dance and sing to the others but lost interest very quickly in this one. They love Big Rock Candy Mountain,Grandpa's Magical Toys and Sillyville.

I use it at school as well as at home. It certainly sums up the spirit of the holiday season and encourages care and concern for others.

4.0 out of 5 stars watch it again!, February 21, 2000

My 2 1/2 year old daughter loves this video! We finally bought a new Wee Sing video in February so we could put this one away! Even though it is a longer show (around 50 minutes) it is worth watching every minute! It was our first Wee Sing video and we are thrilled we bought it! Our daughter just loved getting up and singing and acting out all the songs with the characters -- it sure helped her develop the Christmas concept. Your kids will want to watch it again and again!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not my favorite Wee Sing Video, November 12, 2002

This video had some nice songs, catchy tunes and seemed to be entertaining for my children. However....the story line...in my opinion was not as good as some of the other Wee Sing Videos. I would say Grandpa's Magical Toys, Wee Sing in Sillyville and Wee Sing Together are my childrens favorites so far. I would recommend this video if you like the Wee Sing series but it was notmy most favorite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unusually intelligent and disturbing for a children's Christmas program!, November 4, 2005
This review is from: Wee Sing The Best Christmas Ever! [VHS] (VHS Tape)
"Gusty the Elf was Santa's helper
Gusty the Elf just loved to try
But when he worked for dear old Santa
Gusty the Elf could only cry..."

The light holiday facade hides darker undertones, ultimately realized at the film's climax, when Santa takes sole credit for giving Gusty glasses, when in fact it is human child Suzie's idea and elf Dermy's skill directly responsible for Gusty's salvation--and by extension the salvation of Christmas itself. Santa's one and only contribution is when he physically leaves the workroom to go fetch Dermy (perhaps from a locked room, stall, or dungeon to which he alone has the key?). In one of the film's more potent moments, Dermy is made to walk several paces behind Santa when entering the room.

Remorseless narcissist that he is, Santa shamelessly accepts all accolades. While Suzie seems stunned into silence by the slight, Dermy repeatedly and anxiously and loudly lauds Santa (and Santa alone) for saving Gusty's eyesight--leaving one to wonder what the chilling consequences would be if Dermy did otherwise.

Further indications that something is very wrong at the North Pole:

* The elves' forced repetition of their names suggests a cult-like re-education.

* Santa's sleigh can safely visit every Christian home on every Christmas Eve, but his elves' shared snowflake sleigh is blown hundreds or thousands of miles off course by snowy weather conditions--presumably the very conditions in which it was designed to fly (being that they are based at the North Pole and the sleigh itself is camouflaged as a snowflake). (And the storm represented in the film is not even severe enough to keep a wheelchair-bound child from venturing out to carol with his Church group, so how bad could it have been?)

* Santa's usual hearty "Ho ho ho" is replaced by the effeminate cackling of a madman, which belies his jolly outward appearance and indicates undercurrents of hostility directed at the Smiths, who have invaded his meticulously controled environment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Becoming a Christmas Tradition at our House, December 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Wee Sing The Best Christmas Ever! [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The Wee Sing video series has been a Godsend for my daughters who have been watching them since age one and still love them at ages five and six. Although the Christmas Wee Sing is far from MY favorite (I find it a little annoying in parts -- but then I could say that about every Wee Sing video) my girls love it and that's all that matters. They are watching it again this Christmas and also watch it periodically throughout the year.

The story is cute enough, the music is fine (plenty of recognizable Christmas songs as well as a few originals) the characters pleasant and exceedingly nice to one another (nothing wrong with that) but MOST importantly, it absolutely brings the Christmas season alive for my girls and despite minor flaws, puts Mom and Dad in the Christmas spirit as well.

You could do much worse than to have this video going at the holidays.

3.0 out of 5 stars My favorite video, but it needs a little adjusting., October 26, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Wee Sing The Best Christmas Ever! [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is my favorite Wee Sing video, but it needs to be adjusted a little. The story line, in my opinion, just didn't really go along really well with a few things. I think Susie, Johnny, Nellie, Will and the other characters along with the setting were just fine. They fit with the setting very nicely except the elves didn't really look like elves at all. They looked like real people! A few things happened to the Smith family in the video that actually can't happen like- elves can't fly in the sky like Santa, a snowflake isn't a sleigh, and people can't visit the North Pole because it's too cold! I reccomend this video, but I suggest that you fast forward the fake parts.

5.0 out of 5 stars "OH BOY!...when he broke a toy!", May 29, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Wee Sing The Best Christmas Ever! [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Personally, I liked MUNCHIE. and "gusty, poofer, dimpie, snooter, MUNCHIE, and thooner...THAT'S US!" notice how Gusty gains self-confidence the more often he sings his name. Notice, as well, how the glasses-maker was overjoyed at finally being able to act on his talents...and be appreciated just like all of the other elves. .. "IT WORKED! IT WORKED!!" He was even able to joke around with the others at their lack of knowledge about GLASSES and their making. "THERE'S NO GLASS IN THEM YET. (There's no glass in them yet.)" My main perturbance was, by far, with Suzy, the adopted child. She was WAY out of her league and QUITE a show off (very out of place) . . . not something i want MY child to be seeing. "A stranger in a strange land." The other thing I did NOT approve of was the BLATANT AGGRESSIVE homosexuality of the character Poofer. There were of course others....Santa HIMSELF, the father figure, and basically all of the elves. I think Wee-Sing should be more Wee-Swing-Both-Ways. Sincerly, ONE SATISFIED CUSTOMER!!
