Photos extraodinaire!! Easy to identify.,

This review is from: Weeds of the West (Paperback)
A must-have book for gardeners, hikers, rural residences. 100% color photos make it great to ID weeds about the house. Categorized by family so pretty easy to find. Books that have art renderings of plants just don't ID a plant for me, and I'm an artist!Any negative about the book would be that it could use more descriptive type about the plant.

One of my very favorite books,

I acquired this book when it was first published and have been recommending it to everyone. Great pictures. After planting packages of wildflower seeds I did not know which of the little plants were the flowers or weeds. This book straightened me out. The baby weeds were so cute, I was going to remove the wrong plants. My copy is almost worn out, the cover is falling off. I wish they would use better glue. (And I do treat my books well)

An excellent field manual for both novice and expert.,

This book, which arranges plants alphabetically by plant family, is one of the best books I have found for field identification. Two pages are devoted to each plant. Excellent photographs of the overall plant, combined with detail photos of specific identifying features, makes this a very visually rich sourcebook. The detailed descriptions of each plant, including specifics on plant taxonomy, location, and specific anecdotal information make this an invaluable addition to any plant library and a great source for both botanists and range managers alike!

Excellent pictorial guide of many common western plants.,

This is an excellent pictorial guide to many of the more common western/Great Plains "weedy" plants, both native and exotic. It provides excellent photographic detail of identifying characteristics and early growth stages. The book is well printed and very durable. If your looking for an excellent plant book for reference or field work, this is it.

I have found this book to be of great help in identifying weeds in my area and how to control them. The photographs and the descriptions are very good and make it easy to identify the plants in the field. An excellent guide for anyone in the field of weed control/managment.

like the review from Kenneth Asher, he states the ISBN #'s are the same for all editions, which is correct. this makes for incorrect shipping and a pain in the arse trying to get the right book. i ordered the 9th and got the 5th and now the seller is taking the 5th in trying to explain what the hey went wrong.
i rate the book 5 stars, the service 1 star.

Excellent book for managers, scientists, etc.,
This review is from: Weeds of the West (Paperback)
As stated in other reviews, this is essentially a picture identification book. If you are looking for a dichotomous key for invasive non-native and native plants for Western states, this does not exactly fit that description, but it is still extremely useful. I know many land managers and scientists who have used this book frequently, and it always gets well-deserved high praise.
I was also very confused about the publication date, edition, ISSN, etc., until I consulted the University of Wyoming Bookstore, which was very helpful.

I am a horticulture teacher and I ordered this book for a resource for classes. Also,to let my students know there is a book available that they can use for identification of weeds. One of the classes is Turfgrass Management and we spend a couple of weeks on identification of weeds including: perennial or annual, where they grow(shade or sun), morphological structure and when they bloom. This book answers a lot of the questions and also has great pictures to help in identification especially showing it after it first germinates. I use this book a lot for my own when I am in the field and in the classroom.
