5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, January 8, 2007
This review is from: The Weekend Crafter: Basketry: 18 Easy & Beautiful Baskets to Make (Paperback)
This book has very precise instructions which the beginning weaver can easily follow. The pictures are large and very well presented. The author takes the weaver thru each step as it occurs-for example, gathering the needed materials, measuring and cutting the material, and finally each step in the weaving process as it occurs. The decorative accents that are either woven in or added after the basket is completed are easily accomplished and add to the appeal of the basket.
I wish the author had included names of suppliers for the reeds, seagrass etc.
Although we are intermediate weavers, everyone in our group ordered the book simply because of the way it was written and illustrated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, September 30, 2010
This review is from: The Weekend Crafter: Basketry: 18 Easy & Beautiful Baskets to Make (Paperback)
This is the best book I've seen for beginning to intermediate basket makers. Complete supply lists, great pictures, and clear step-by-step instructions make this a keeper. It's the only book about basket making I got out of the library that I just had to own. This book teaches basic techniques and keeps weavers interested by teaching different bases, rims, and weaves -- with additional decorations as an option. You'll go to this book again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Challenge, May 25, 2011
This review is from: The Weekend Crafter: Basketry: 18 Easy & Beautiful Baskets to Make (Paperback)
This is a well-organized book, each project has enough of a difference between it and the other projects in the book to make for interest, and the photos and directions are excellent. My one regret about this book is that no basket here is much of a challenge. Still, that may be just what weekend crafters want, and so the book lives up to what its title promises, and that's important.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Weekend Crafter: Basketry: 17 Great Weekend Projects, November 30, 2011

"The Weekend Crafter: Basketry" is a great introductory book for the Beginner basket weaver. The author uses a down-to-earth approach to explain the basic tools needed for basket weaving, highighting for example, that a good old fashioned clothes-pin will do just as well as the standard basket clip. Continuing, with clear and concise pictures and graphics, the author introduces the reader to the various reeds, handles and techniques needed for creating useful and attractive baskets. Pictures of more complicated, artisan crafted baskets, offer inspiration for future projects as skill level and confidence increase. Although a basket weaving class would help the novice, The Weekend Crafter: Basketry" is a great beginner book and will be a valuable resource to the aspiring basket weaver.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous book for beginners or experienced "basket cases", October 29, 2011

Even as an advanced basket weaver and teacher, I often go to this book for inspiration. I recommend it to all of my beginning students as an excellent reference. I especially like the section on designing your own market basket. Totally takes the guesswork out of cutting materials no matter what handle size you have on hand.
