5.0 out of 5 stars Best book for working owners of dogs, January 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Weekend Dog (Paperback)
This is my favorite book dealing with the challenges of keeping _any_ dog (puppy or grown) when you're working 8-5 M-F or are gone from the house for long periods. She has wonderful ideas for solutions to challenging problems and several interesting, insightful case studies. It's a real shame this book is out of print; it was famous in the rec.pets.dogs Internet newsgroup for years. It would sell like hotcakes if it went back into print.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Undervalued Dog Book Ever!, September 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Weekend Dog (Paperback)
In a time when most families have BOTH parents working full-time jobs, it is a fact of life that the majority of dogs are "Weekend Dogs" who get attention during nights and weekends. Despite the rediculous attitude of so many people who look down on those of us who work for a living and can't be with our dogs 100% of the time, dogs can do great in these situations. The author knows her stuff, and her techniques are effective. Our dog is CONSTANTLY praised by friends and strangers alike for her great attitude and her obedience and good behavior. I wish more dog owners would read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Every Dog Should Come With This Book, August 4, 2008

This review is from: Weekend Dog (Hardcover)
I can't believe I haven't reviewed this book. I read this book over 15 years ago when it was given to me as a gift when I got my first dog. It is absolutely the best primer for owning a dog - whether you are going to be home with it or not. It has so many practical and useful tips for being a responsible pet owner. I read other dog books, and they were interesting and backed up a lot of what Dr. Milani said, but none were as useful as the Weekend Dog.

In addition to having a practical information on puppy training, crating, dog behavior, feeding, eliminating, etc., the Weekend Dog is actually a very good read. Dr. Milani includes examples and case studies that make it interesting to read, and the pace and writing is perfect.

If you are buying a dog, BUY THIS BOOK.
