Better Than "The Dark And Deadly Pool.....",
By T (Sacramento, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Weekend Was Murder (Paperback)
I really liked Joan Lowery Nixon's "The Weekend Was Murder!" This book is the sequel to her previous book, "The Dark and Deadly Pool," which is another hit! I felt that "The Weekend Was Murder" was better than the first, but was a bit confusing towards the beginning. There are so many names to remember and keep track of, that it takes away from the storyline..."The Weekend Was Murder" is about a girl named Mary Elizabeth (Liz). She works at the Ridley Hotel as a summer job. One weekend, the hotel hosts a murder-mystery weekend in which a couple hundred people act as sleuths and try to uncover a pre-determined mystery. Liz is one of the actors and is supposed to "find a dead body in one of the hotel rooms." When she finds a real body, it starts to become all too real! Who's the murderer? Is it one of the mystery weekend guests? Could it be the famous mystery author who is running the mystery weekend? Did she get caught-up in her stories and decide to commit real murder? Liz finds herself intertwined in a real murder-mystery in "The Weekend Was Murder!"

As 16-year old Mary Elizabeth waits for the exciting murder-mystery weekend, she learns something new about Room 1927. Liz and her friend Tina are checking out the top floor of the hotel. Lately, there had been reports of loud music, and strange noises. When Liz and Tina enter the strange and supernatural room, they find that it is haunted. During the murder-mystery weekend, a movie is being filmed, while later on Liz is hired to be in the movie. She then has the part of finding a dead body. Liz had not been prepared for the "real" body she discovers. A murder has occured in Room 1927. Was it the ghost? Read this fantastic book and find out. This book is a magnficant, thrilling book on a murder mystery. Overall, this book was a great book. Trust in my rating, and read it yourself. This review is from: The Weekend Was Murder (Paperback)
This is an exciting bookby one of my favoritte autors. It's about a girl named Mary Elizabeth who has to solve a murder during a simulation at her hotel. You should read THE DARK AND DEADLY POOL with this because the characters are mentioned in it and the book can be a bit confusing. If you like this you'll also like THE NAME OF THE GAME WAS MURDER.

A Wonderful Joan Lowry Nixon book,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Weekend Was Murder (Paperback)
The Weekend Was Murder, by Joan Lowry Nixon, is about Liz, a young mystery solver. She works in the health club at the Ridley Hotel. There is a mystery weekend, when sleuths can solve a murder mystery, scheduled and she is going to be part of it. She is going to find Mr. Pitts' body in the "haunted" room 1927, and someone that the sleuths can question to get clues. When Liz goes back into the room, she finds another body that looks like Randolph, one of the actors. She has to find out who committed the crime before she is murdered too. This was a great book, filled with suspense and action. The Weekend Was Murder is for anyone who likes to read mysteries.

Da Summsta's Review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Weekend Was Murder (Paperback)
This book was okay. But I was really bored about the first hundred pages. I was just not that interesting. But, it got better. See, there's supposed to be a murder mystery party at this hotel that a girl is working at. But, when the girl goes into the fake crime scene, she sees a real dead body. Then, out of one hundred people, this girl has to find the culprit before he/she finds her!!!!!! I WOULD SUGGEST ANOTHER BOOK CALLED THE SEANCE. THE AUTHOR IS JOAN LOWREY NIXON. That was such a scary book! I was hooked on the second sentence!!! Man, talk about a page turner!!!!!!!!

Confusing!,
This review is from: The Weekend Was Murder! (Paperback)
Help! I'm still confused. When did the real murder take place?I haven't seen anyone mention this, so I'm wondering if I missed something. I honestly couldn't tell when the real murder actually took place. I don't want to spoil things for those who haven't read the book, but I'm really desperate for an explanation. So, here I go... According to my understanding, one man (Mr. Burns) discovered the real dead body even before Liz runs down to the lobby crying about the fake murder. But in the end, when Liz discovers how the real murder was planned, we learn that the person who planned the real murder was able to do so because of something she heard Mrs. Duffy say--something about the tape on the door to room 1927. But this scene about the tape is after the scene where Liz runs down crying about the fake murder and running into the man who has already seen the real dead body. So, summing up... -Mr. Burns finds real dead body in room 1927 but keeps quiet -Liz cries fake murder to start the mystery weekend -Mrs. Duffy tells an actor about the tape on the door to room 1927 -A character overhears this and plans a real murder -The real murder results in the dead body that was discovered by Mr. Burns? I don't get it. I've already flipped through the book many times for the important points, but I don't want to reread the whole book. So, can someone tell me what I missed? Sorry, this is not much of a review. Wish there was a site where I could discuss this book... |
