I picked this book up earlier this summer and have been surprisingly happy with it. The route descriptions are good, and I feel that the author rates the climbs realistically. What I mean by that is that his 5.9 is consistent across the state. A specific example are the climbs at Exit 38. A climb there might be rated 5.10a in the Exit 38 guidebook, but David Whitelaw appropriately rates it 5.9-. I've noticed rating discrepancies in other areas too and have usually sided with David's ratings.

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful By G. Adams on October 25, 2009
Format: Paperback
This book is lacking a lot of valuable information. It is difficult to find several of the crags and many of the routes. There is a lack of topos and route photos. As well, because it only covers up to 10a, it leaves out the other routes which increases the likelihood you will end up on the wrong route or not find the one you are looking for. The idea is great but if you want a book for weekend climbing, I'd find a different one. A lot of your weekend will be wasted wandering around trying to find things and asking people if they know where the route you are looking for is.

I've found this book to have a great selection of some of the best classic rock climbing routes around washington. If you are interested in climbs at this level (up to 5.10a) this is a great list to pick routes from.

I bought this for a son who's a rock climber in that region--
he was delighted with the material and the presentation of
information. Good resource.
