Book Description

An innocent-sounding family reunion at an exclusive California beach resort turns into a weekend of murder, deceit, exposed secrets and unexpected intimate encounters.

John Peterson has it all: He’s a respected, successful Beverly Hills entertainment lawyer with a loving wife and grown son, the strikingly handsome young film director Joe Peterson. John also has a secret and he decides to gather his disparate family members at the elegant Hotel Del Moor in picturesque Linda Bella, California for some luxurious fun, togetherness and re-connecting before revealing his secret. Unbeknownst to the family, a brutal serial killer is lurking in the midst of all the wondrous festivities.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a light read September 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When I purchased Weekends on my Kindle I was expecting a fast paced murder mystery with a hint of romance. While the plot was fast paced I think specific elements and characters kept the storyline from being light. The book was very jarring in that there was multiple incidents of rape (including using a glass bottle), heavy domestic violence and incest. Add to that there was just too many characters. I rather have a few characters that were fully developed then too many who were almost caricatures. I found the frequent sexual and explicit romance stories disturbing when in literally the next chapter their was a violent rape. Additionally, the villain was obvious from the beginning and based on his description as well as his actions (how he spoke to his intended victims) I don't think he would have lured the amount of victims he did because he was clearly not clever, rather he was repulsive. Add to that, even years ago when this novel was written there was enough physical evidence left behind where he wouldn't have been able to commit as many crimes as he did. He was incredibly sloppy and would have been caught with forensic evidence -- even in the 90's.
Even with all the criticism I will say that the author is a good writer as far as pacing, I just wish her plot had been better thought out and less superficial. Do not pick up this book if you want an easy distraction as it has some very graphic images without enough payoff to make it worthwhile reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Marcy, avid reader February 7, 2006

A clever plot, the family reunion, and good character development make this an enjoyable and fast paced read.

I will be looking for other books from this new author

3.0 out of 5 stars unlinked October 6, 2012
By Mur
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found this book hard to read, although I did read the entire book in one day. The characters were unbelievable linked and twisted to the point they were almost hard to follow. It was definitely a work of fiction. I would have rather had a more direct story line.

1.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy plot, poor writing, cliches abound October 6, 2012
By Juanito
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I did not enjoy this book, so I'll make my review short and to the point: It was poorly written, with a paper thin plot intended only to provide a vehicle for the author to deliver a sex- and violence-ridden story chock full of cliches, insulting stereotypical characters (the uneducated Southern redneck, the slick city boy, rich bitches, etc.) and laughable "romantic" entanglements like (WARNING: SPOILER FOLLOWS) lesbians in love "turning straight" after one weekend with a couple of good looking men. I guess Kevin Smith was right...(you'll get the reference if you've ever seen Chasing Amy; if you haven't seen the movie, I recommend watching that rather than wasting your time on this drivel). Skip this, it isn't worth reading even if it's free.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Beach Read! July 22, 2006
A family gathers in a posh California hotel, for what they believe will be a weekend of sun, fun, and catching up with long-lost family. What it turns out to be is anything but - full of secrets, lies, steamy sex and a murder mystery that will keep you guessing until almost the very end. Full of great, 3-D characters, fast paced action, with just enough erotica thrown in to keep it interesting.

There are a lot of characters in this book - you may need a scorecard to keep track at first, but soon they all become like friends, and you know their quirks enough to know who they are. And some people AREN'T what you believe them to be, which will totally throw you for a loop!

As the cover art suggests, this is a great book to read while sitting by the beach, by the pool, or while stuck at the airport. Heck, it's a great read anywhere!

I can't wait for her next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! March 28, 2006
I'm glad I chose this book as the first novel to read after many years. The intricate and twist-filled plot drew me in right from the chilling prologue, and kept me turning the pages until the surprising and shocking ending. "WEEKENDS" has it all: edgy family drama, romance, steamy sex & exciting action sequences.
