5.0 out of 5 stars Solutions for Restoring Emotional Stability, That Work
I found it to be a well researched book with scientific, NON-DRUG solutions for depression, and anxiety that are working for me. I like the fact that the author developed and tested all of these formulas at a clinic in real life situations. 2.0 out of 5 stars Mis-Named
This book offers some excellent nutritional advice in dealing with physical illnesses that mimic the symptoms of depression. It also addresses dietary factors that would lead your body to exibit depressive symptoms.
This book however does not live up to its title. It fails to throughly and accurately take into account the different types and degrees of...

This review is from: 7 Weeks to Emotional Healing: Proven Natural Formulas for Eliminating Depression, Anxiety, Fatigue, and Anger from Your Life (Hardcover)
I read this book and followed all the suggestions and it worked for me. It was simple and the book supplies you with a real live clinic and staff to help and get the vitamins to you! I also went to my Physician armed with the book and he took me off the anti-depression medicine and wrote a prescription for L-tryptophan. As the book says L-tryptophan is the only substance known to man that can increase serotonin or I should say replace lost serotonin. Read it and then live it. It really can change your life. I recommend it to many people and so does my Doctor. He is amazed!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life!, May 10, 2006

I had no idea until I read this book that nearly all of my health problems and symptoms were related, genetic and a result of a nutrient deficiency. I spent more than 10 years being told by various doctors that they couldn't find anything wrong with me and yet I suffered from strange symptoms. After getting on Ms. Larson's vitamin program, these symptoms began to fade away...some almost overnight! I feel like a normal person again! I can't recommend this book enough. I was surprised that there are so many genetic disorders that can be easily helped with nutrient therapy. This book has helped me more than any other health book I've read.

Following the regimen found in this book has allowed me to be free of prescription anti-depressants and their side-effects for the first time in 15 years. It provides logical, clear prescriptions to treat anxiety, depression, anger and other emotional/physical conditions through diet, and natural food supplements. The treatment works, is affordable, and doesn't require an MD or prescription drugs. I recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book has something for EVERYONE!, August 2, 2001

I highly recommend this book! First, it's a book that covers a lot of aspects of common problems (ie. hypoglycemia). It's set up with tests to see if an area is a problem for you. It explained in detail why it's so important to eat healthy (your sanity depends on it). In the last 5 weeks, my depression has improved considerably, I'm not nearly as tired as I was before and I feel better about myself overall. I've recommended it to many of my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real help for the hurting, January 9, 2007
The information in this book changed my life! I suffered from depression and anxiety most of my life and have tried many antidepressants. This book (which was easy to read and fascinating) gave me clear and logical answers. After following the charts that matched my symptoms, I am sleeping and smiling and enjoying my life. I believe this book was an answer to prayer. I buy multiple copies to give away when I hear about someone suffering from depression or anxiety.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a natural solution to Depression!, August 7, 2006
By
This book is amazing! I'm surprised that after being treated for depression for a year, and working with doctors, therapists and word of mouth with friends, I NEVER heard any of this information! The author explains the physiological details that point to nutrient deficiencies that cause Depression, and then proceeds to explain exactly which supplements you need to take. Because there are no side effects or risks with natural substances (amino acids, vitamins, minerals) there is great peace of mind for me, now. I've stopped taking Wellbutrin and recently started on the Balanced Emotions formula of vitamins and amino acids, and I feel great! Thank you for writing this book! I'm so happy I found an answer, finally, that works to fix my Depression.

5.0 out of 5 stars From a depressive's standpoint, useful book., July 23, 2003
By A Customer
As someone who has suffered from major depression for nearly 20 years, I read the book quickly and was excited and encouraged by the information therein. The author addresses in part the ramifications of long-term poor nutrition and eating habits and provides numerous screening tests for the reader to determine where he/she may be suffering. As I took the screening tests and read the chapters, I found myself identifying with nearly everything I read and could readily accept the fact that years of malnutrition may be at least partly to blame for my current severe state of depression.

Yes, the book suggests megadoses of vitamins, minerals and amino acids, and that can be hard to swallow (literally)! And costly. But you have to go through the book and try to determine what might work best for you. The author also suggests some dietary changes based on how quickly you turn food into energy and your blood type, and of course she espouses regular, consistent exercise. After a short time following her guidelines (as best I can) and cutting out sugar, caffeine, and dairy, I feel better than I have in a long time. Am I cured of my depression? Of course not! That's going to take a long time and I have no doubt that in the future I will have to be ever-vigilant against future relapses. But as of today, at least, I feel less sad, hopeless and unfocused and I credit the book (and my therapy sessions and medications) with contributing to that improvement.

4.0 out of 5 stars very helpful overview, September 14, 2005
I found this book a very helpful introduction to the connection between pyschological habits and disorders and chemical levels throughout the body. Particularly helpful was the contact information Larson provides in the Appendices for integrative physicians and testing centers. My biggest complaint would be that Larson bit off more than she could chew and ended up moving through several subjects too quickly. If her focus had truly been just depression, perhaps she could have covered the subject more thoroughly. Overall, I found the book very interesting, insightful, and helpful, and would recommend it to anyone struggling with depression or a psychological disorder, especially those who are looking for an alternative to anti-depressants and other drugs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Depressed? It could be your starved brain crying out for..., May 28, 2007

(REAL NAME)
Did you know your brain can send you into depression if you don't give it the right bio-chemical food?

If it gets to much of 1 sort of mineral for example it can go into a toxic pattern and send you even further down.

This book is a very comprehensive & easy to understand guide to bio-chemical imbalances in your brain that may be triggering depression, anxiety, anger, compulsive disorders etc.

Using vitamins, minerals, amino acids, hormones, etc, Joan Mathews-Larsen has been treating people with emotional & alcoholic disorders since 1980 & knows what she's talking about.

A psychologist once told me there are three things you need to do to treat emotional illness -

1, councilling, hypnotherapy etc.

2, balance the brains bio-chemicals using drugs or preferably with vitamins, minerals, amino acids etc.

3, make your own decisions about what you want to do in life.

If you do all three, you'll be much better off.

Joan Mathews-Larsen's book definitely address's balancing the brains bio-chemicals - it helped me discover an illness called Pyroluria which was sabotaging my body and starving me of zinc, manganese, magnesium B6 and P5P....

Buy this book to make sure your brain isn't running low on bio-chemical fuel and spiraling you into depression .
