Good book - good results - IF YOU DO THE WORK :-),
By
This review is from: 6 Weeks to a Hollywood Body: Look Fit and Feel Fabulous with the Secrets of the Stars (Hardcover)
This is another exercise book that will get you great results, if you do the work inside. Steve Zim knows his stuff and he breaks it all down for you, but you must not only look at the pictures, you must put them in motion. He won't lie to you - he tells us that the celebrities work extremely hard to get the bodies that they have. That they are dedicated and watch what they eat and that they exercise often and hard. One thing he does mention that is supposedly a myth in the fitness world, is spot toning. So many trainers will tell you that you simply cannot spot tone. Steve thinks you can. Who knows? I say, give it a go.
One other quick point is that you must already be near thin to get a Hollywood body in the time allotted. If you are seriously overweight, this will not be your end result. However, doing these on a regular basis, and your dream body will be a step closer - the results will be noticable to yourself, but if you are overweight, then incorporate these with a lot of cardio. Other than that, this guy is well informed and this can be very helpful to you as he tweaks the usual exercises to give them that little extra something and gives them weird names like The Frankenstein and The Arrow. Good book. Go get it and go do it.

Baby Fat,
By Mama J "Nancy" (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 6 Weeks to a Hollywood Body: Look Fit and Feel Fabulous with the Secrets of the Stars (Hardcover)
I had a baby six months ago and I have never in my life had a problem with losing weight. For some reason, I was not losing the weight and I was eating right and working out.
Due to my time constraints with the new baby, going to the gym was not happening. I wanted to be able to work out at home. I was watching the travel chanel and they had a segment on getting back into your summer bathing suit. At this point, I would be happy to just get back into my jeans. The author of 6 weeks to a Hollywood Body was on this show and was showing some exercises that was simple and could be done with just an excercise ball. I got the book and read it cover to cover. Great book. What was even more interesting was that I had a question about how to do one specific work out move and the book has an email address where you can send questions to the author. 2 days after sending the email, the author responded and answered my questions. Very cool! I have already seen changes in my body and perhaps it is because I am hitting areas that I have never used before and my body is responding to it. Ladys, if you just had a baby, you need this book.

Already seeing results,

I purchased this book after seeing the author on the Today Show. I have seen him on the Today show many times and he always has very interesting workout segments. When I saw that he wrote a book, I had to get it.
With just a couple of items the book tells you to buy (ball and ankle weights) I am working out and really feeling the workout by only devoting 25 minutes a day. Driving to the gym takes me 30 minutes each way and then I would spend 45 minutes in the gym. I am saving an hour and a half of my day by working out at home using this book. I would recommend this book to anyone! Mark S.

I purchased this book because I was such a fan of Steve Zim's last book "Hot Point Fitness", but was ready for a new equally intense program. What I like about this book is it keeps your workouts changing constantly. There is absolutely no way you can get bored because you are always switching up the routine. I also like that there are seperate plans to follow for not only males and females, but also for each specific body type. Unlike Zim's previous book, you could also perform each workout outside of the gym. With a set of weights, a matt, and a fitness ball, these exercises could be done just about anywhere. Please note, if you really want to see results, you must follow not only the workouts, but the very specific diet as well, which is pretty tough.

Steve is my hero!,
This review is from: 6 Weeks to a Hollywood Body: Look Fit and Feel Fabulous with the Secrets of the Stars (Hardcover)
I have been using Steve Zim's first book "Hotpoint Fitness" for almost 4 years. I'm up to the 5 times a week schedule. I'm almost 70 but I look 40 if you cut off my head! I have always had large hips...no more. Sagging butt, what's that? Firm arms, I got 'em. Inner thigh...muscles there, too. The excercises will improve your posture, improve your agility, and you will benefit psychologically as well. I've often thought of writing to Steve and telling him how much his book has done for me. So, here 's to you Steve. Thanks!

turned out alot easier than i thought,
This review is from: 6 Weeks to a Hollywood Body: Look Fit and Feel Fabulous with the Secrets of the Stars (Hardcover)
being that i wasnt extremely overweight, i messed around with a few abs gimmicks and occasional attempted diets for a few days. couldnt really keep it up because i LOVE carbs. anyways, decided to buy this book because i saw it on a news article and said what the hey. i think u need a pretty big level of commitment to start this off. kept an open mind and did exactly what the book told me to do, even making eating schedules that i thought was a bit lame. the first 4 days was tough, but after that, it got alot easier as time went on. zims directions are very simple and like all the various exercises he includes in your routine as to not make it boring. i like how its pretty much a map that u follow, so u dont have to make many decisions on your own. just do what it says, and it'll work. overall, just finished my 6 weeks and went from 5'8 185 lbs with 17% body fat to 5'8 155 lbs with 12% body fat. and believe u me, everyone i see notices this and constantly compliments me, it feels great!

I used to hate exercise, but I hit 35, and I knew I needed to do something. I couldn't afford a personal trainer, but this book is almost like having one (minus the cheerleading). Ok, so I was a little leary of the title, but once I started reading, I was hooked. This isn't just a book of exercises. Rational, realistic approach to good overall health, not just weight loss (though his fat-reduction program showed results within just a few days).Idiot-proof once you get the exercises down. Workouts are planned for you (by body type, by day) so there's no guess work. Shows you where to start regardless of your fitness level. Great combination of sculpting and stretching to ensure you get the shape you want. The program focuses on nutrition, free weights and an exercise ball plus cardio, so you can work out virtually anywhere. Thanks to this book, for the first time in my life, I look forward to working out. It's helped me better understand my body, adjust my lifestyle, and it feels terrific!

You can get the same info from Gunner's exercise ball DVD. Which, is easier to do as you can see it while participating, instead of reading it from a book and always having to put the book down and try to follow the exercises.

The repetition of the word "Hollywood" is hilarious, and I hide the cover at the gym, but the workouts are really good: thorough, clear, and effective. I definitely recommend the book.

Let me be honest, I did not follow this book to the letter. I did follow the basic meal plan. However, I did not do the super sets and I only used the book the days I wasn't going to the gym.
I frankly got a much better workout with the book than the gym, for all the normal reasons associated with free weights. Worked muscles I didn't know I had, left me feeling empowered and exhausted. Do the body fat measurements when you start, honestly it will kick your butt into gear. I only took my measurements once or twice because frankly I was so happy with the results I couldn't care less about what the number read. I felt strong, I developed lean muscles (I made people poke my stomach the day I realized it wasn't just flab anymore). I went from a BMI of 22.5 to 19.8, 2-3 pant sizes. Love handles nearly completely disappeared by the time I put on my bikini, my arms no longer jiggled and my butt? Hello again to mini skirts and shorts. I recommend this book to all of my friends and make my gym buddy do the moves with me at the gym. I've bought plenty of books before and after this one and this is the only one I ever go to. ****Update 2011**** I got this book over five years ago now. It got me in great shape, I'm not still in GREAT shape, but decent and part of that is probably because of this book. It's the one thing I ALWAYS go back to, the one book I ALWAYS recommend to overs (and have given to others). The diet plan is easy to handle and the workouts are easy to follow. I STILL love this book. |
