4.0 out of 5 stars Some good ideas......
What I took away from this is the power of visualization and developing visual memory as an another tool. I didn't however finish the four week program. Part of this, sure, is ADD, but part of it was the excruciatingly slow pace at which it progressed. When I have a desk full of bills to pay, I don't like directions to "spend no more than 10 minutes on your desk...

2.0 out of 5 stars too much imagery
I just couldn't get into the imagery in my mind of an organized space. I was looking for something with ideas on how I could work with my ADD, this wasn't it.

What I took away from this is the power of visualization and developing visual memory as an another tool. I didn't however finish the four week program. Part of this, sure, is ADD, but part of it was the excruciatingly slow pace at which it progressed. When I have a desk full of bills to pay, I don't like directions to "spend no more than 10 minutes on your desk today." It just doesn't fly. To be fair, this would probably be a great book for someone who had no organizational systems in place, was completely overwhelmed, and had no idea where or how to start. I know there's many out there like that. I do have a system of sorts, so this wasn't a good fit for me. If you have ADD and have no clue where to start, by all means try it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Cheers for 4 weeks, November 27, 2007
This review is from: 4 Weeks To An Organized Life With AD/HD (Paperback)

This is a must have if you either have ADD or treat others that have ADD!
I am a Clinical Social Worker that has been treating patients with ADD for almost a decade and I actually learned some new techniques from this book. I have recommended it to most of my patients and they really like it!
The begining chapters provide a clear understanding of the nuances of adult ADD in a easy to read and enjoyable fashion using case examples. The organizing portion is written in the same easy fun style with headlines and "Activity" sections. Working the activities are quick and interesting building on strengths of the ADD mind. This book is easily worth the money. Also a great Holiday gift for a good friend or family member.

5.0 out of 5 stars "4 Weeks" COMPASSIONATE AND PRACTICAL, November 25, 2007
This review is from: 4 Weeks To An Organized Life With AD/HD (Paperback)
4 WEEKS TO AN ORGANIZED LIFE WITH AD/HD

"4 Weeks To An Organized Life With AD/HD" is one of the best books I have read on understanding and dealing with AD/HD. It's clear, informative, compassionate and practical and provides a more comprehensive look at AD/HD than the title suggests. The authors' up-to- date, scientific explanation of this neurobiological disorder uses language that those new to ADHD can easily understand. This complex disorder has behaviors that are continually and painfully misattributed to psychological or moral motivation. "4 Weeks" strongly establishes the biological source of the shaming behaviors that are AD/HD. I have been providing therapy to adults with AD/HD for over twenty years, and I think this is a book that all of my clients, their families and other mental health professionals would find helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent description, October 20, 2008

This review is from: 4 Weeks To An Organized Life With AD/HD (Paperback)
Chapter one is one of the best descriptions of ADD that I have read. I learned a lot about myself even though I have read several other books on the subject and have been acquainted with the disorder for more than 10 years.
Chapter two describes how right-brained people's brain functions, how learning and recall are different from left-brained people. Very interesting and practical information.
The best part is the 4-week schedule of activities in the last chapter. I was amazed when I started to do the activities. Now I know why other organizing systems (based on left-brained logic) never worked. You can see amazing results immediately. The important point is DO THE DAILY ACTIVITIES at the end of the book. It will change the way you look at life. Organization and follow-through will be like never before. I always thought I could never get organized, but now it is happening!

5.0 out of 5 stars FOUR WEEKS TO AN ORGANIZED LIFE WITH AD/HD, November 26, 2007
This review is from: 4 Weeks To An Organized Life With AD/HD (Paperback)
I am a professional and personal coach, who has seen the difficulties of adults with AD/HD in my clients as well as in family and friends. I've read books about AD/HD, but this one is different. Other books often treat AD/HD as a medical condition which needs treatment, or as just a difference that should be appreciated. This book strikes a great balance between the two. It gives a great, fun to read understanding of AD/HD and right-brain thinking. And it also highlights the strengths that many with AD/HD have, and shows how to capitalize them. I would highly recommend this book to all those who have AD/HD, and to those who love or work with someone who has AD/HD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adult AD/HD - relief and a clear horizon, February 9, 2009
This review is from: 4 Weeks To An Organized Life With AD/HD (Paperback)
I was reading this book as I was waiting in my doctor's office to get my ADD meds refilled.

Upon reading just the first pages, I was transfixed and transformed.....and a little creeped out. How is it someone could see in my head and my thought processes so clearly?

However, the relief I found in the easy-to-digest, well-written text of this book superceded my angst that the thought police had tapped my neural network!

Seriously, this book is the absolute best I've read on the topic, and it has brought me tremendous awareness of the boundaries of my brain function, and given me tools to dig my way OUT of the mire...brilliant as the mire may seem at times.

I have a teenage son w/ADHD as well, and the tools and text have realigned my pathways for dealing with his issues and struggles, which overall, has brought relief and a new focus to our entire household.

If you think you or someone you love or work with has AD/HD, read this book THEN get them a copy. You will all be changed for the better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Tome for the Adult living with ADHD, August 24, 2009
This review is from: 4 Weeks To An Organized Life With AD/HD (Paperback)
This book is a wonderful addition to my library. I had many personal realizations whilst reading it which have greatly enhanced my self-understanding. Many times while reading it I felt like this book was speaking specifically to me and all the things I had once termed as "shortcomings". Thankfully this book makes a strong case for a non-judgmental view of ADHD. There are also inherent strengths that are often present with this disorder. I greatly appreciated this book and would whole heartedly recommend it to anyone who is struggling with this. THIS BOOK CAN HELP.

I have only read the first 23 pages so far. At this point, I already know, the person writing this book knows me. I have not gotten this feeling from other books I have read or from any therapist or anyone else for that matter. I will write additional reviews as time allows and I have more to report. I would call this the most important book I have read to date. It has been more than 10 years since I was diagnosed, I am 44.

When I started reading this book, I felt at last someone "got me." Just the tool of visualizing what you want to accomplish has made a big difference in helping me stay on task. I have read numerous books on managing AD/HD; this is the first one that has been practical and useful.
